"weird things that have happened because the queen died" is a very crowded field at the moment, but the other day i watched the latest episode of john oliver's show - which is broadcast on sky in the uk - and they fully edited out his segment on the queen's death?

it was very obvious that they had done it too because he was talking about chile and it abruptly cut to him saying something along the lines of "and that's not the only traumatic event that's happened in the uk this week"... like... is this not censorship?

Conceptually Project London Bridge is kind of fucked up if you think about it. They purposely didn’t tell people about the death of the Queen until the signal went out for the BBC to announce it. This was the video on the BBC which was cut into by the broadcast:

Meanwhile, they said that the cost of living crisis is "insignificant now due to the gravity of this situation"- meaning they’re going to take at least a month for the funeral proceedings, ignoring the declining economy and its detrimental effects on their citizens.

this is fucked.

i wish all working class brits a very riot when your government tries to spend a billion dollars on that bitch’s funeral while your cost of living skyrockets, and i wish all non brits a very support working class brits while their country catches on fire

BBC news and I believe most other uk news channels spent 6 hours today following a funeral procession via drone

Now that the funeral possession is finished they have spent the following hours replaying the footage and commentating further on it

No other news is being reported

Even the rolling headlines at the bottom of the screen are solely monarchy related

Websites contain some other news but are still mostly related to the monarchy

Two people were arrested earlier today in Edinburgh. One for shouting “who elected him?” at the proclamation of King Charles, and one for holding a sign saying “fuck imperialism, abolish the monarchy”

Just two be clear, two people were arrested in Scotland in the UK for publicly expressing they did not agree with the appointment of a new unelected head of state

CORRECTION: One person was arrested in Edinburgh (the one with the sign) and the other was arrested in Oxford.

Just because some poncy academic calls The UK a republic, doesn't make it true

i literally said the political reality is more fuzzy lmao?

and like it's fine to be critical of academia because on an institutional level it's dominated by a certain type of person (upper class, white, male, old, etc.) like believe me i get it, but i also don't necessarily think that everything academics say should automatically be dismissed outright just because a lot of them are poncy. they don't just say things like "the uk could be considered a republic" without reason or justification so like... don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

this is also tumblr dot com so i didn't think it was the best time or place to get into post-structuralism but sozzles if u don't think my answers contain enough nuance i guess
