Allow me to reintroduce myself...

I'm not sure what re-inspired me to do this. Could be a writing bug. It could be that some content creators I follow are bad news all day every day. Whatever the case, I decided to once again reintroduce myself and tell you signed up for.

My name is nukirk and I love three things: tech, culture and protecting them. Somewhat in that order. What I used to do is blog about racial issues and sad news as What Whites Will Never Know. Now, I want to blog about a lot of other things beyond that.. and less sad news. Too much of that going on. Here's a taste of those things (in no particular order)

  • How to protect yourself online from the rapidly changing Internet.
  • Curating posts from other people about what their passionate about.
  • Why it's important to not be complacency with your digital equipment.
  • Learning about the current culture environment and how you can help (and no, complaining about it online isn't the only step)
  • Social commentary about stuff that the news might missed.

Basically, if it's related to tech, blackness, and culture, I'm going to blog about it. Or re-blog about it.

So, stay tuned for more posts.

P.S. - what's with the "for the rest of us" line? Well... some things I post about is to simplify it so it doesn't go over your head. Especially when it comes to tech. I always like to simplify things so that you can learn it without being the geek yourself. Hence "for the rest of us". Hope that clears that up.

So when we talked about the publishing antitrust lawsuit a little while ago a lot of people asked 'well what about Disney/Amazon/HBO?' and like... I dunno man, I'm not a lawyer.

However, turns out the answer is 'Hollywood has been deliberately dismantling antitrust laws that apply to them for profit' which has lead to all our current problems. This thread goes into great detail on that.

The parties are not the same

The parties are not the same

The parties are not the same

I added the numbers in a high-visibility way in case the image was hard to read for people.

This is insane.

This is your reminder that the GOP fully supports white supremacy. Republicans are Fascists. The Republican party is a Fascist party.

To be fair if they got rid of all the racists from the military we wouldn’t have a military so I am sure that’s a big concern for them.

So, to get on my game about my creative projects and my life in general, I am now a somewhat proud owner of a Pavlok.

That's right.

I'm going to be zapping myself to fight my bad habits, the executive dysfunction, and the other mental barriers.

I can't wait to see what I'll be like in 30 days.

Someone got shot during taping of a scene in Law & Order: Organized Crime.

The Lifeline does not currently have the capability to directly “trace” callers, chat or text users in a way the same way that 911 providers do. … In the atypical situations where emergency services must be contacted to prevent persons from seriously or fatally harming themselves, and the person is unwilling or unable to share their location information, Lifeline counselors must provide what information they have to 911 operators–the caller’s/text user’s phone number or the chat user’s IP address–to enable them to do whatever they can to locate the individual.

Note: any mentions of suicide on Tumblr now alerts a bot that will direct you to resources.

Which Topic should I cover for the 1st deep dive?

I have ideas, but I'm curious as to what you would like to read/watch first. I have five topics picked from my growing list of brainstorms. Instead of giving titles away, I'm going to do themes here. Or if there's an idea you want to suggest, write in an answer.

The ideas are:

  • The Gig Economy - It's here to stay. I'm currently in it and most of you benefit from it. So, let's talk about it.
  • Copyrights for the average person - Have you ever wondered why that cat video of your cat enjoying copyright music was taken down while there seems to be videos that don't share the same fate? I'll investigate into the matter for ya.
  • "Social Experiments" - A White woman decided to don on a hijab and her world view changed. But her "struggle" is the center of these videos and takes away from other people's voice. How can we divest from viral videos such as this? (This idea may be dated, but who knows?)
  • Black women & Social Media Bullying - I researched a woman who might have gotten a name changed because she was a victim of social media bullying. What happened to her since then and does it still happen to this day?
  • Activism / Slackerism - How doing the bare minimum becomes a focus instead of the actual activism?

Okay, it seems like the subject you want me to cover is going to require a new browser, privacy measures and the safe search off.

This will be a moment.

The internet archive is under attack

The internet archive is so important it’s sooo important to archive digital data to preserve it if you can throw a couple of dollars their way to support them then please do so. Don’t let greedy people and individuals take away the internet archive!
