Birds and occasional gay stuff

Welcome to my blog that I updated extremely sporadically!

I had a bunch of new followers lately so I'm posting an obligatory introduction

I'm an environmental scientist (field tech, not a researcher sadly), I'm 28, and I'm queer!

I have a main blog @human-esque where I reblog a lot of garbage and memes and an instagram wonderbeastcrafting where I post a lot of crochet, sewing, and knitting projects and also many selfies because I am extremely vain and love attention.

The Raptor Cage is not a blog I update often, but I love to get requests and asks for any specific birds that people want to see and I'm motivated when I think other people enjoy the stuff I find.

I will sometimes reblog things that are more personal, if you don't want to see them feel free to block the tag #notbirdrelated. I also will block pretty liberally as some people don't know how to play nice and/or make weirdly sexual comments on photos of birds.

Anyway! I love you all and I hope you like my stuff!

I have decided to give up blogging and flee into the wilderness covered in Uncle Dunckle's Bat-Nip Bat House Attractant so the bats will carry me off to my new home good luck everyone else

This is a very real product by the way.

I mean, each to his own, but maybe get a rabies vaccine or two first, m’kay?

Don’t get me wrong, I love bats, but from a safe distance because 1) they’re an endangered species, 2) it’s illegal to handle them without a licence, and oh yeah, 3) even in rabies free UK, they can carry a rabies like virus which is just as scary (if you’re curious, it’s a type of Lyssavirus, A.K.A. EBLV1 and EBLV2).

I will exude Uncle Dunkle's Bat-Nip from my pores and the bats will become my friends and my main mode of transportation.

Our friend watches our cats whenever we go out of town and the only payment he ever demands is kitschy, useless souvenirs.

I'm so excited to deliver two of the most haunted dashboard hula dolls that will ever grace a dashboard.

This is so great because if anyone is caught impeding or messing with these deliveries, it’s MAIL, that makes it a FEDERAL crime, whoever fucks with these packages gets charged FEDERALLY, they face up to five years in prison.

[ID: A tweet by @ nytimes that reads, "Breaking News: Women can get abortion pills by mail for pregnancies up to 10 weeks without seeing a doctor in person, the FDA ruled. The decision comes as the Supreme Court considers whether to roll back abortion rights or even overturn Roe v. Wade." Attached is a link to the article and a screenshot of the title and subtitle of the article. The article was published Dec 16, 2021. The title reads, "F.D.A. Will Permanently Allow Abortion Pills by Mail" and the subtitle reads, "The decision will broaden access to medication abortion, an increasingly common method, but many conservative states are already mobilizing against it." /end ID]

Resources for anyone that ends up in a restricted state:

Aid Access - they can send you the abortion pill even if you live in a restricted state.

PLUS, you do not have to be pregnant to order them. You can order to have on hand, in case of an emergency.

Repro Legal Helpline (reprolegalhelpline.org) -

Some of the things they can help with above.

Miscarriage + Abortion Hotline (mahotline.org) -

They have a ton of information, and resources in one place.

Also, if you find yourself in a restricted state, you need to be careful of how and with whom you are talking about it. You need to use safe, encrypted messaging and calling.

I also recommend removing any biometric information for unlocking your phone. Use a PIN or password instead of a fingerprint or facial recognition.

Checking out of our Hilo side airbnb tomorrow and we received very normal check out instructions.

There is no communal guest book coconut on the lanai. We have to go out, find a coconut, write a comment on it, and leave it on the porch.

The owner himself stopped by to check in how we're doing (cause he knows my girlfriend's mom who rented the place for us) and he was as confused as us about it, so I guess he just has weird property managers.

I'm also not unconvinced that they put in it there to mess with us tourists.

Coming out of my cage and I've been doing just fine

Gotta gotta be down, because I want it all

I just saw your post with the crochet pride dress. Where did you get it/if you made it do you have a pattern? It's beautiful!

I did make it! It took me about a week or so of continual work, but the pattern is Sea Breeze Cover-Up and the pattern is free on Ravelry and on their personal website. I think you have the option to buy an ad free version too.

These robin-like birds are the Hawai‘i Island's last native fruit-eating bird that still lives in the wild and plays an important role in re-establishing native understory plants such as ‘olapa, ‘ohelo, and akala, spreading seeds after they pass through the bird's digestive tract.

This finch-billed honeycreeper's entire life cycle is dependant upon māmane and naio forests. Its diet is māmane seeds, flowers, buds, and leaves and naio berries. The birds annual and seasonal population density is connected to māmane pod availability. Nesting typically occurs in māmane trees, while most roosting is done in naio trees.
