If you don’t know, I have stepped in for @stealyourshiny to finish a story that I fell in love with years ago. I have some big shoes to fill!

So, fun story: last night (7/27), my screen popped and fizzled out. An attempted restart stopped at loading the video card port. Even after a full chassis cleanout and trying again, it's completely kaput, likely due to the overwhelming heat recently (thanks SoCal!)
My computer is literally my only source of income rn and I need to pay my rent, so! I would seriously appreciate if you could help me out with getting a replacement/helping with funds via ko-fi or paypal! I also have venmo, but tumblr mobile literally will not let me upload pictures 😬
I can also take commissions, with the understanding they will be delayed for my current queue and actually getting a replacement card in so my computer will work, haha

So apparently I owe over $1,400 in taxes on the year I’d been unemployed for 7 months, and since I haven’t had a job since December 2018, that’s making me really fucking nervous. I just filed my extension but I need to somehow make that money.
I’m Ocean, also known as Elliott, and I’m a queer, trans, writer and editor. I currently am jobless due to medical and mental health issues, but I can’t get healthcare because I’m broke. I can’t manage to hold a fulltime job without severely damaging both my physical and mental health and aggravating documented diagnoses, which makes me ineligible for unemployment benefits, but cannot seem to get qualified for disability. (Yay, millennial culture intersecting with malevolent capitalism!)

Heyyyyyyy so this weekend my roommate Max started feeling no so great, with a fever and not sleeping. That started to escalate into a 100+ fever, chills, no eating. We assumed it was the flu, so we took her to the Urgent Care where we found out that her flex spending card only had $11 on it – the visit cost $75.
Now today her temperature has gone up to over 103 and she’s dizzy, overheating but shaking, and generally looking awful. I just took her to the ER and came back to take care of animals and write this post. The last time any of us went to the ER for the flu or (what we’re guessing it is now) pneumonia, the bill ended up like $300 which is more than we have saved now
TLDR; roommate is in the ER for very bad flu or maybe pneumonia and we’re not financially prepared for a possible $400+ bill right now. Anything to help us cover this and get Max back on her feet would be super appreciated

so we stayed at the ER from 9:30 PM to 2 AM cause YAY AMERICAN HEALTHCARE \O/
But Max is already doing so much better thanks to the medicine and care, and thanks to everyone’s kindness we are all good on the bill!

Update: !! It’s pneumonia, but we caught it early before my lungs filled with more than just a little bit of fluid. My co-pay for the ER is $350. I already owe that hospital $327 for an MRI my neurologist ordered back in July, AND with my Flex card spent out, that means the $70-ish a month I spend on medicine is coming out of the bank instead of the flex card. I’m going to talk to HR about getting the amount on my Flex card upped, but that means they’ll take more money out of my paycheck pre-taxes.
Up until July I had medicare so there were no co-pays for anything. As of July, they went to auto-renew my medicare and decided that I make too much money now and cut it off. I did have back up insurance through my job, but it’s Anthem and their co-pays are ridiculous (I miss my United Health Care co-pays at my old job. D:). I also have a final project due for grad school on Wednesday and have to go back to work on Saturday. SO. Busy busy busy with not much money. If you can help, that would be great. Anything that goes over the (rough) $700 will go into savings to help pay for my monthly medications.
