wild abandon, pt. 2 (Ezra/f!reader)
Length: 3.5k (Ch. 2 & Ch. 3)
Summary: Post-WWII, set in the Great Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina. Ezra Joe Collins came home from the war looking to hide away in the wilderness. His simple, quiet life is turned upside down when you show up in his garden, hungry and desperate, with nowhere else to go. What starts out as a grudging friendship quickly transforms into something that will knit your very souls together — but as you soon discover, such a bond comes at great cost.
Warnings: SMUT, explicit sexual content, violence, murder, supernatural elements, morally questionable main characters, history of abuse, let me know if I missed anything
A/N: Many thanks to my beloved @ezrasbirdie for the beta and to @mothandpidgeon and @lowlights for cheering me on! This is a dark fic and quite a departure for me, but I’m diving in to a thriller and hope to keep you guessing until the very end. 😉
Chapter 2: Thoreau’s Rules
Ezra disappeared after breakfast, leaving you to your mending. His clothes were in serious disrepair, torn and jagged from his days spent in the woods hunting and setting traps. You didn’t have much to work with, but you managed to patch a few holes and stitch up smaller ones, even neatening a frayed hem or two.
He stayed out from sunrise to sunset, most days. You’d been there for three weeks and had learned almost nothing new since that first night.
One afternoon, once he’d returned from hunting, you worked up the nerve to talk to him.
