Give this man a bayard and call him the White Paladin of the Atlas. I wanted to draw this for a few days now and finally got the time :)

there’s going to be a difference sometimes between the stories that you find masterfully crafted and the stories that mean a lot to you personally and those two things don’t have to overlap completely or even at all to make that story worthwhile

and that’s a good thing to remember as a reader/viewer/etc but also as a writer because even if whatever you ultimately write is full of mistakes, someone out there is gonna take it so to heart that it fundamentally changes them as a person. and that is. Huge.

Like! I made a list of the top ten stories that have influenced me as a human being and only 2 or maybe 3 of them are things I would hold up as examples of narrative mastery. But I cannot imagine who I would be without the other 7!!

Please write your story and share it with the world! Someday someone will not be able to imagine a world without your story in it and they’ll be so grateful you brought that wonderful, meaningful thing into their life

Also while I’m on a roll, a story doesn’t have to have some deep hidden meaning or philosophical theme for it to be meaningful. Sometimes a story is meaningful to someone because it was fun and made them happy at a time when they really, really needed that. Or because it was an incredibly intriguing world that inspired them to dream. Maybe they’re another writer, and they see in that thing you wrote the exact kind of story they want to tell someday.

There are many ways to be meaningful

This is true.

Lance gets into the habit of talking about his feelings with the people he meets during missions, so there’s just this group of people scattered all across the universe who don’t know each other but are connected by the fact that they all occasionally take a minute out of their day to wonder how that chatty blue kid’s doing

Once upon a time, back during the second season of Voltron, we drew Shiro dancing with the paladins. Originally it started out as a one-off joke between ourselves; Keith’s dad had that unbelievable Texan accent, and we thought it’d be hilarious to draw Keith trying to line-dance with Shiro. We ended up drawing all of the paladins (and Allura and Coran) dancing different dances with him (Tango, Foxtrot, Waltz etc).

In light of recent events we wanted to create some positivity for the fandom (and by extension, for Josh, Bex, Lauren and everyone else that had been affected by it). So we drew some more people dancing with Shiro (and some people dancing without him XD)

Note: none of these were intended to be shippy stuff when we drew them, but if people take away from it something positive that reflects a ship of theirs, that’s fine.

First off, thank you so much to everyone that likes these as much as we do! We’re so happy it’s brought some joy into the fandom :)

Secondly, it came to our attention that we weren’t quite done with all the dances yet! As requested by Neil Kaplan (VA of Zarkon) on twitter we’ve drawn Haggar and Zarkon doing the Charleston and Lotor doing a Time Step. We also drew Honerva and Zarkon doing the Lindy Hop during happier times.

…and half the time they will springboard off the first vertical surface they come near, trot back to you, and insist you do it again.

I felt like I needed to clarify some things before we could continue any more conversations on this godforsaken website.

I’m very proud of the European Robin, I think I really captured it.

this is a very accurate birb agenda illustration

European robin is LOVE and I never really thought robins in other countries wouldn’t be like our robins, because they’re cute balls of fluff and rage and I just took a pic of one of them yesterday here, have,

also one with my coworker for scale (we were both taking pics bcs we’re cute bird lovers) (all animals, really) (actually I didn’t mean for her to be in the pic but well it happened) (our uniforms suck) (we were crouching) BABY BIRB U R NOT A BABY BUT U R MY BABY LET ME HUG YOU PLS

Wait, Robins aren’t the same everywhere?!

They should be, but they aren’t! Colonists in North America named the native birds “robins” after the ones they knew in Europe, but the birds aren’t related at all, they just both have red chests.

For further astonishment:

* the 1964 film Mary Poppins is supposedly set in London, but the fake bird that young Julie Andrews holds is actually an American robin (Turdus migratorious)

* the American robin lays spectacular turquoise blue eggs, thus the term “robin’s egg blue.” This is meaningless in Europe, where robin’s eggs are beige. A paler, greener version in the UK is called “duck egg blue”.

* the “rocking robin” and the “red red robin [who] comes bob bob bobbing along” are American robins.

* Robin from Batman was probably named after Robin Hood, although he does have a red shirt.

* the meaning of the name “Robin” is just short for “Robert.” The bird in England was historically called the Redbreast, but in England in Ye Old Days there was a trend for giving nicknames to animals. Thus, Jack Daw, Jenny Wren, and Robin Redbreast are now the names of birds in English. Now, we mostly call them “robins” and drop the “redbreast” most of the time.

* There may be a pleasing synergy with Robin Goodfellow, aka Puck and Hob Goblin, the Elvish mascot and primal spirit of England. But probably not intentional

* But basically Robin Hood, Robin Goodfellow, Robin from Batman, and American/European robins are all just named after that one guy. Robert. What a legend

england again with their fucking bananas naming conventions Robert nickname: Robin Charles nickname: Harry Richard nickname: Dick Christopher nickname: Kit Philip nickname: Pip the last two at least make some semblance of sense.

I think Harry is supposed to be from Henry, not Charles. Although that still doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me… At least once it got to Harry you can kind of see how they got to Hal.

Robin probably started out as specifically a diminutive… hang on my dictionary thinks diminutive applied to names just means any shortened form, but

Okay nevermind my attempts at explaining: Diminutive: “A diminutive (or pet name) of a given name is a short and/or affectionate form. Often they are only used by friends and relatives.”

So, like modern English nicknames use -y as a suffix to turn a name into a kind of kiddy nickname, I think -in could function the same way around when the name Robin came around. …According to the page I linked -in can still be a dimunitive in Irish.

As for Richard, as I just now read in the same source–

Rhyming nicknames were also used. Robert might be known as Rob, Hob, Dob or Nob (although Hob, Dob and Nob have since died out, they are preserved in surnames such as Hobson, Dobb and Nobbs). Likewise Roger might be Rodge, Hodge, Nodge or Dodge and Richard might be Rick, Dick or Hick.

…Which if true indicates that Dick is somehow the sole survivor of all these rhyme-based nicknames. Huh. Well, I’m not sure whether that’s true, but I can certainly buy medieval people using obnoxious rhyming nicknames.

Hmmm… So like, did they do this with names starting with other letters? Was Henry in danger of being called Denry? If your name is David can you start calling yourself Rave?

…this started out as a post about birds…

Dick’s not the sole survivor, there are a few other rhyming nicknames that can be fun to think about! William => Will => Bill. Bill is a nickname of William.

Robert => Rob => Bob. Bob is a nickname of Robert.

Edward => Ed => Ned. Ned is a nickname of Edward. (Can also legitimately come down from Edwin, Edgar or other “Ed” names.)

James => Jamie?? => Jimmy?? => Jim??? This could be one way that people got “Jim” from “James”!

Margaret => Maggie => Meggie => Peggy. Peggy is now a name by itself.

Eleanor => Ellie => Nellie (Can also legitimately come down from Helen, Ellen or other “Ellie” names.)

Molly => Polly, now a name by itself.

I love the evolution of this thread.

like, i totally appreciate that HP fandom is still so intense and all the creativity that still gets poured into it, nearly 20 years after the first book came out, but ngl every time i see one of those edits with the original Marauders being represented by like, some impossible perfect Millenial instagram models with artfully tousled hair and pouty lips it always throws me bc those dudes were in their prime in late 1970′s england aka an era when looking like a led zeppelin reject was about the peak of popular young male hotness

like you know this is what they looked like, don’t try to fight it

TNG 3x05: The Bonding (Deleted Scene, Act II, scene 16)

“I just thought you might feel the same way.”

I will never be over the fact that they cut this scene. It tells so much about what it was like for Deanna growing up, and how hard it was for her to grieve for her father when no one would let her talk about it.

Holy shit. I was just thinking about how little we learn of Betazed culture from Troi and I didn’t even know this scene was shot. WTF, Star Trek?
