Last month, the National Film Board of Canada launched Indigenous cinema, an extensive online library of over 200 films by Indigenous directors — part of a three-year Indigenous Action Plan to “redefine” the NFB’s relationship with Indigenous peoples.

ClipDrop Relight allows you to change the lighting of images (including artworks) for free with their AI lighting tool

This could be super useful for artists if you want to play around with potential lighting/colours! I tested it out a bit and it seems to work with both portraits and sceneries, however it doesn’t look like it works with flat sketches. Still really impressive though!

All of these “AI” tools stripmine artwork/photography without credit, but if you’re okay with that go nuts.

For fucksake, lighting theory is Art 101, and there’s millions of works and photos out there for examples; please make an attempt to do the least bit of damn effort to learn what you’re doing?

Please point to where in the post I said that this was a substitute for learning art theory and to completely rely on it to do the lighting for you in all your drawings, I said it’s a neat tool to brainstorm colours and lighting angles with.

Any artist should ideally be using whatever references and resources are available to them to tinker with things and learn and experiment, play about with this ai, look at some reference photos, use a 3D model, pose on front of the mirror - do whatever gets your brain ticking to help you visualise what you’re about to draw and piece it all together using your knowledge as an artist.

I’m sorry but some of the people in the replies of this blog are so needlessly argumentative and it’s really annoying, I’ll post a tutorial or resource and someone always feels the need to act like I’m holding a gun to their head and forcing them to change how they draw. Do I need to write massive disclaimers under every post for every possible negative angle to everything I post?

This isn’t a “tutorial” or a “resource”. It just straight up does the lighting for you. All these AI art apps that take the place of actually learning a skill are the same; they strip someone else’s work and put it on your own.

Maybe try to understand the problem they represent instead of being so defensive of this garbage.

This dude when he finds out that renowned artists were making physical 3D models of their subject matter to figure out the lighting before computers were even invented and that they didn’t perfectly render the image in their mind from thin air
