I just got out of the shower which means I’m optimistic about projects and social media so I’m writing this draft before the mood fades and I’m immovable again

Ok so

Been a while. If you still follow this account you may or may not have noticed that the only things that have been posted since December 2018 are posts that say what day it is

A lot of this is because my posts here and on shipitouttahere got screwed up in The Great Tumblr Purge of 2018 and I was mad and didn’t wanna fix it. I still am and don’t. 

But I do miss Tumblr. I’ve lurked off and on since then, just liking posts and sending them to friends instead of reblogging to keep my account more or less inactive (except for the dates posts, because it amused me to imagine getting a person looking at my page and wondering how many years in advance I have “It’s December 10th” gifs queued). 

I’ve bopped around discord servers. I’ve disappeared from discord servers. I wish it were easier to find and get into discord servers that actually stay active. I’m around on Twitter but not like posting original stuff or anything. I’m on Instagram but the app crashes when I try and make posts a lot of the time so I just post stories. My cat’s instagram is updated with stories more than my own. I chat in Twitch communities a lot.

But I miss the social fandom stuff of tumblr. I started a Miraculous Only Sideblog because I didn’t have anyone to talk to about it (either due to lack of interest or spoilers because they weren’t caught up) and have been enjoying throwing stuff out into the void and getting excited with strangers about theories (please invite me to your Miraculous discords). You might’ve seen my Risk/Strike back comic floating around (warning: spoilers for s4 finale).

However I can’t message people from that account for some reason, and it occurs to me that having a seemingly inactive blog might not be a great way to make friends on the platform, especially if they’re vetting to make sure I’m not a bot (I still get regular new followers who are definitely bots that don’t know what asexual means).

A lot of people are like. REALLY angry at me for suggesting that “be depressed and do nothing” isn’t necessarily the only response to climate change.

BUT. Even if the worst happens, it will be important to be doing things other than wallowing in misery???

I’m not trying to be callous but for people living today it’s wildly unlikely for the results to be “literally immediate death.”

People will get displaced from their homes by rising sea levels. We have like, years, probably decades, before that happens. It seems so fucked up to decide that we should do nothing, because we’ve already decided they’re going to die anyway????

If a bunch of us are going to die, why not die trying to help each other? Why not try to make sure fewer people die? Why not do something that might reduce someone’s suffering or give them food or clean water or a place to sleep?

I don’t know how to explain to you that people need socks during the apocalypse

Apparently most Michaels craft stores are just now getting the rest of their Halloween shipments and unlike other stores that just dumped it all Michaels is usually putting it up at 90% off

hi i work at a Michaels! this is a true fun fact, and it goes further than just halloween. all autumnal seasonal decor & crafts are officially 90% off. winter holiday decor and crafts remain at a solid 70% off, and it won’t be long until it eventually becomes 90% off. the store i work at and, from what i can tell through the Michaels employee subreddit, a lot of others are still restocking christmas, halloween & thanksgiving stuff as a result of supply chain troubles. i was queuing things in and restocking today, everything i put on the shelves was either storage or seasonal

in short: Michaels is desperate to sell their seasonal items and cannot get rid of it all fast enough. they are practically giving this stuff away for free at this point

I think tumblr should add a 'king for a day' feature. This would do very little other than add a crown to the chosen king's avatar (how blogs are chosen is not revealed) and enable the king to 'carcinize' blogs, changing their avatar to a crab. I think this would be a good feature because it addresses no problems with the website and also would make some people very mad and that would be funny I think.

This video for the linguistic privilege of the Anglophones was very interesting to me. He doesn't say that if you go for a week to Greece you must learn the language (although some phrases would be nice). He doesn't say that having a common language between different nations is bad.

But he is talking about native English speakers who are able to stay in foreign countries for a long time and still don't learn the language because the locals around them can accommodate them by speaking English. These long-term visitors who are native English speakers (sometimes spouses and business partners) are not willing to learn the basics to survive in this country because they expect that someone around will know their language.

While this expectation might seem reasonable, it burdens the non English speakers to learn the language to the point we are considered unprofessional and unskilled if we don't speak English very well - in our own country!

Story time:

I was meeting with a large group of online friends for drinks and doing our collective hobby together and there was an Anglophone in the group. She had been staying in the country for 10 years, she was under 30 years old (you can definitely learn the language at that age) and couldn't communicate with us, making a dozen Greeks speak English to accommodate her.

Naturally, we didn't manage for long to center our conversations around her language when we could communicate better in ours. Still, the attitude of this woman and people like her still baffles me. If any of us were to go to her country for a month we would be automatically required to know English otherwise we would be ridiculed. We would certainly not survive a decade without learning the local language.

This is his year.

Dear PEQUEÑO Y GORDO here will be turning seven this year. I was wondering how they’re doing. Are they still gordo? Less pequeño?

From quick research I know that this was one of three sumatran tiger cubs born at the Chester Zoo in 2015, so this is either Jaya, Topan or their sister Kasarna. If it is Kasarna I found an update pic from her zoo’s Twitter from when she turned four! (The boys seem to have been moved elsewhere?)

Not so pequeño anymore, (but still an hint of gordo imo) Happy tiger year!

And now, back again after 18 years, the new adventures of Galaxy Quest!

There’s a documentary on Amazon Prime I’ve yet to watch about how this movie helped revitalize the SciFi genre or something, and I can totally agree with that. It’s more slept on than Megamind or Clue or even Logan Lucky.
