Last night we took a 13 hour night train from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. We left around 6 and got in around 7 am. It was pretty cozy in our car.
We made a reservation last night for a day trip with some elephants. I did a fair amount of research on places to go, because I read that there is a lot of problems in tourist areas with the treatment of the elephants. They picked us right up at the train station and took us about an hour outside of the main city. We were incredibly lucky that it was just Sam and I that day, no one else had signed up. We pretty much got a private elephant day! We both rode bareback on our own elephant.
Chinese food with Bird, it’s hard to see but that soup was on fire at the table.
After lunch we got our first Thai massage. Bird took us to his doctor, and Sam and I got the real deal. I got bent, poked with a pointy rod, and was told my digestion is not good. I tell you what though, I feel great today!
Looking out of our hotel window in Bangkok. A very busy place but will make an interesting contrast to the islands we'll visit later.
