just wanted to say your art is so gorgeous the poses and composition are really rich in storytelling and personality and its so pleasing to look at. your anatomy work is so cool everything looks organic and has weight and definition to it. as a small side bit, i really love how you draw pearl with a flat chest and a lean musculature. it's kind of?? idk comforting in a way but i digress; your take on the resident gangly repressed nerd is Good Content

Wow, thank you so much for your kind words, Anon!It really means a lot to hear it, especially with how little Pearlnet content gets made now a days. That isn’t a note about anyone in particular, I haven’t made much recently either.Flat chested Pearl has always been a favorite of mine to draw and see. I thought about it for a long time when I first started drawing her and I decided genderless aliens might not all always have all human anatomy in the right places, especially for ones like Pearl who seemed to just tolerate humans.Plus, Pear is a buff bird! She can leap dozens of feet into the air and Ronaldo swung a full force punch at her and she didn’t budge as he broke his hand on hers. She should have some muscles, ne?Thanks again!

Sorry for the delay in getting the prompts up!!

Pearlnet Week 2018 will be July 16-20, and I know a few people have mentioned not being able to participate due to timing, but don’t worry! We’ve got backup prompts to do a fall/winter week too this year!

As with past Pearlnet Weeks the prompts are optional and don’t need to be combined (but it’s fun if you can!), and the objective is to create media for each day of the week! This does include screencap edits, redraws, fanart, fanfiction, cosplay, playlists–you name it!

The only caveat is that you tag your work with appropriate warnings!

Since the Pearlnet blog itself is generally worksafe, save for links that lead off-site with warnings (like to Ao3!), NSFW art can be done for a fill, and I’ll try to compile an index. Please tag your stuff Pearlnetweek2018 so I can track the tag, find your submissions, and queue everything up!

We also have a Discord, and if you’re over 18, you’re welcome to come plot things out there, discuss your plans, bounce ideas off of other fans. In fact, in general, we’d love to have more of you in there!

I’m deffo participating in this! Sounds like so much fun. I can’t promise a full painting for each one, (I work waaay too slowly) but I will try to have something for each prompt.

Ur roman au looks rlly cool but whitewashing garnet in it isn't as cool :/

Hello Anon, thanks for the ask, and thank you for the compliment.

I will say I am somewhat baffled by the thought that I whitewashed Garnet in the picture. It is, as it stands, just a line art drawing right now, with no local colors (local meaning the color of the thing in question) at all. I really wanted to push the idea that they’re underneath some big trees, so I did overlay a grey shadow of dappled light filtering through the trees. Otherwise everything, Garnet’s skin tone, hair, Ame’s skin tone, Rose’s hair, the grass, dirt, clothing, and tree bark, all of which should at the very least show some color, are all white/valueless. It has nothing to do with me trying to make Garnet whiter than she is, it is just lines.

If it is in reference to her hair, I admit I did consider it carefully before I changed it. In the original sketch, her afro was intact, but I wanted to show that she and Pearl are touching their hands together, so I decided to change her hairstyle to a much closer cropped, tightly curled hairstyle typical of Roman men in that era. Everyone has their hair/clothing changed to reflect the styles of the time, and I was hoping that maintaining a coiffed, curly hairstyle would still show she has curls, even if they’re artfully arranged as they are in the statuary from the time.

I hope you will take a look at some of my other work, because I have drawn Garnet quite a lot, and I try my best to keep her faithful to canon skin tone and hairstyle. I hope this response also clarifies things for others, because I don’t agree with whitewashing, and did not want to give that impression.

Thank you again for the ask.
