Guy who never feels safe dedicates himself to trying to make sure his friends are safe from the atrocities and in the process actually learns to finds some sense of safety in their presence. Bea and Teddy’s safety is integral to Darcy’s, which I think is nice because because he learns to look outside himself but also take care of himself all in one. 😊

I feel like a pinky promise is less about the binding nature, and more about the symbolic meaning. She knows he doesn’t doubt her character, and he knows she won’t be offended by his reluctance, instead they acknowledge the feelings with the hook of their fingers, pinky promise.
