now with that all being said. to OP’s credit tik tok aesthetic beauty culture or whatever is basically tumblr aesthetic culture on steroids. and unlike tumblr every major brand / corporation in the world is watching very closely. we are churning through subcultures to commodify and revive so fast that we’re like a month away from bringing back beatniks. if we haven’t done that already. it WOULD be really funny if we could come up with more subcultures that were so hideously unmarketable that people just stayed away from them. has tik tok found out about crust punk yet

dear god they’ve found the crust punks

the other problem with making personal choice re: not wearing makeup out to be a part of some movement is that inevitably it seems to lead to women who still wear makeup anyways to be viewed as “traitors” to that movement. just pointless bickering especially if you recognize capitalist commodification of beauty/bodies to be the real problem in the first place

I love it, actually. These soft bodied pasty teens should gather up their Spoons and make a molotov cocktail on your command 🤪

our brave tumblr teens will be the front line of warfare. Sun Tzu said this

How very you to have no rebuttal besides “well ur not valid” Hope your blog deactivates while you sit inside pretending to make car bombs lol

what is the purpose of blocking me and then continuing to send anonymous messages anyways? usually when you block someone it’s to stop interacting with them and not an excuse to refresh my page until you get validation from seeing me respond. get a hobby

telling people (especially teenage girls) that they can't try to accept their own self and the only option is violence (to which i am not opposed) is kind of shitty. the point of the post was to ask teenage girls (who are usually at the forefront of marketing ploys around 'self care' or image marketing, etc) why they feel the need to subscribe to a certain 'genre' of existing instead of simply existing (and moreover, why they find that simple existence without a label is offensive in any way) - not that the status quo will never change unless we kill politicians (which again, i am not opposed). it's about denying labels for the sake of your own well-being, which a lot of young people (teenage girls especially), have a hard with as it's never really stated that they can just be. it seems the point was missed. it's not about the commodification of self image, it's about teenagers and kids not needing to label and price-by-piece their identity.

not what i said. explicitly started it out by saying i agree with the message of self acceptance but disagree with the beat it ended on making it out to be some kind of movement immune from commodification. just trying to temper expectations here

the new counterculture needs to be anything that involves zero makeup and curation. the revolution will not be ‘content creator’-able.

im 100% serious. aliexpress fishnets and tiktok tutorial eyeliner is not punk. wearing a tshirt from 5 years ago with a simple, functional hairstyle is punk. in the age of aestheticisation rebellion cannot have an appearance because every ‘look’ is infected by capitalism. wear what you have. women, ask yourselves ‘would a man do this to their appearance in the same circumstances’ and if not, don’t do it. concealer exists to cause you mental anguish. ‘-core’ exists to cause your wallets to empty. refuse culture of perfection and accept the messiness and asymmetry of a human body. if your first thought is “but i will look ugly” ask yourself why you think an unmodified human body is ugly. secondly ask yourself why you are so afraid of that. reject the veneer, reject the facade. become un-commodifiable. the revolution will not be marketed

i appreciate the spirit of self acceptance but capital subsumes everything. you try this and it’s just going to be called “sleazecore” or some stupid shit like “florpcore”. they will find a way to market it and there’s nothing you can do about it. there is not a single ‘counterculture’ that has not tried to become unmarketable - that’s the point of counterculture - and they have all failed. even revolutionary aesthetics are repurposed into liberalism. the only way to fight back against capital does not involve any aesthetic choices. it involves rigging politician’s cars to explode when they turn on the ignition

good post about critiquing the system with real manageable steps we can all take to do our part exists.

a couple days later.. one viral reblog to said post: ‘yea no. we need to storm the white house. start the revolution and march and protest in droves. we need to snipe politicians and blow up ceo’s cars. we actually need to….’

someone said once that leftists talk about the revolution like christians talk about the rapture

it’s a savior event that they can point and look to to absolve them of any agency to work towards a better tomorrow, today. it’s easy to say we need to behead rich people and then go on to do absolutely nothing than to hear someone say to take steps that you can do now.

like i get it. much easier to fantasize and talk about all the arson and murder we’re never going to commit to the a la capitalism. than to hear critiques crossing other forms of oppression that will help attack capitalist strongholds now. it’s all enlightened class reductionism with a hint of main character syndrome.

i think the disconnect here is that you view personal choices as a tangible step towards some unspecified ‘better world’ and do not view a scenario in which capitalism no longer exists as a ‘better world’. the reason you disagree is because i am a communist and you are not. hope this helps 👍

i am sorry to tell you that no third world revolutionaries struggling to get out from under the foot of colonialism/imperialism have ever had the luxury of “ensuring their safety” and neither will we. this is liberal mind poison. the people in power would sooner kill everyone on earth than hand over the reins. the sooner you realize that real change is not safe to fight for the sooner you can stop wasting your time trying to overthrow capitalism with a change.org petition.

now for the record: i’m not telling anyone to actually go out and do random acts of terrorism. america is far from having some sort of viable revolutionary movement form any time soon in my opinion. i’m just saying that capitalism doesn’t just go away non-violently and if you’re serious about it, assuming your safety should be guaranteed in a scenario like that is childish
