Hi, I'm Ryan. he/they/it causing problems since 1995 Queer. icon by @oldtestleper Sometimes nsfw There's no theme to be found here, just shit I find interesting. perpetually tired

I want to apologise to

- Britney for making fun of her when she had her breakdown

- Monica Lewinski for judging her when she was a 22year old temp sexually assaulted by the most powerful man in the world

- Ke$ha for ever thinking she was trashy when all she wanted to do was make party music

- Kristen Stewart for ever thinking she was dumb when she’s actually one of the coolest people ever

- Megan Fox for ever thinking she was just a slut when actually she was an actress being harassed by her employer.

- Hating all the women who made a career out of having a hot body. Being is shape is hard, beauty is a weapon and auto promotion is hard work.

- All the Mary-Sues, who exist because young girls everywhere want to be part of a story they love so much

- All the female characters I ever snobbed because they got in the way of my ship.

- Hating the color pink during my teenage years, when it’s actually a lovely color and what I resented was society’s pressure to perform femininity.

This is what sexism does. The media runs a smear campaign against women. And when we were younger we knew no better and trusted them. Now we know better.

amazon’s entire schtick is to run other businesses into the ground by undercutting prices then ruling over their peasant customers.

FedEx just refuses to deliver to my house. It’s too rural. They just won’t do it. The USPS is gutted. If I need supplies or food or any emergency anything, am I going to risk the package being destroyed or never getting to my house, or grit my teeth and go with the chaotic evil monsters who will nonetheless give me the food or medicine I need?

And guess what? Amazon is directly and indirectly responsible for both the state of FedEx and the state of the USPS. They were allowed to create a monopoly and they were PREPARED for the further gutting of the USPS we’ve seen in late 2020. In my rural area, with a pandemic on? I think people don’t understand what I mean when I say I have no choice sometimes, the same as I have no choice but to buy Comcast internet even tho it’s overpriced and unreliable.

It. Is. A. Monopoly. By. Design. We’re being given no choice. The solution isn’t to attack the consumers; it’s to force the government to undermine the company and to actually support its citizens with things like the USPS.

Ethical consumption is a luxury afforded to the rich.

If Amazon successfully buys the Roomba company then they will own one product that lets them spy on your front door and another product which creates scans of the inside of your house. Probably nothing to worry about

You ever think about how crows are acting not unlike how early humans probably did and you're just like. Oh ok

I saw a Thing one time about how the earliest sign of civilization is a healed femur because that shows that we were taking care of each other because if we Didn't a broken leg would mean you Die because you can't. Do things

And I was thinking about this and I remembered also seeing an article about this one mated pair of crows where one of them broke its beak and thus couldn't properly feed itself on its own. So the other one helps

So basically I have connected the two dots ("you didn't connect shit") I've connected them

And also they not only use tools but teach each other how to construct them, so uh

Really makes you think

Realistically I know immortality would kinda suck but I'd love to see where crows are going with this

Fun fact, there is little info on crows (as far as species of interest go) because they're so good at evading human tactics for collection and observation. I had a friend who studied them in grad school. Not only do they describe humans to each other (so crows you've never seen before will avoid you), they also learn the precise distance of net cannons (for trapping and tagging) after 1 encounter and then stand at that distance the entire time (making naive researchers think maybe they can juuuust caych em). So basically you need to befriend them (a common strategy), or find a murder that's never seen you before (researchers wear presidents masks to throw them off, but then they remember and describe the cars). In this case, you have one chance to collect enough in the group to get good data. Whatever crow you catch once, you probably will never catch again, ruling out biosensing devices (like they use with other birds and turtles n junk).

The latest big finding about crows is that they have a grasp of knowledge breadth, meaning they "know what they know" meaning they are conscious (self aware), have subjective experiences and can reflect on their knowledge. (Source) This also implies they have an understanding of the unknown.

Look up Andreas Nieder and Jon Marzluff's work if you want the deep skinny.

QU/E/ER has been the accepted term for the community and used within academia for forty (40) years.

The reclamation of qu/e/er is older - and in some cases twice as fucking old - as some of you trying to give it back to our fucking oppressors!!!

You will find HUNDREDS if not THOUSANDS of academic sources and books that use this word, because it's our god damned word!! It's our history! It's our past, present and future!!

We took this word back with blood, sweat and tears. It is shameful you would try to give it back to the people who used it to hurt us. WHY, for the love of fuck, do you want to do that?

If you personally don't identify with it, fine. But stop spreading the rhetoric that it's "just a slur", or "everyone hates it", and stop trying to get everyone else to stop using it.

Yes, it is an exclusionist and terf dogwhistle to spread "it's a slur!!" - they want to exclude trans people from the LGBT community. They want to exclude anyone who doesn't fit into their narrowly defined boxes, and qu/e/er is vague on purpose. It includes everyone who feels at home in our community. It is inherently the most inclusive term we have.

"Well I don't feel included by it!"

OK, BYE!!

i fell for "queer is a slur" rhetoric for so long because i thought i was protecting people. this is a manipulation tactic to slowly bring you over to seeing other queer people as bad. as an opposing side. yes, queer has been used as a slur. a lot. no one is saying it hasn't been used that way. we all know.

but when people tell you not to use it, examine who that serves. examine who benefits from you wiping "queer" from your vocabulary. examine who benefits from wiping "queer" out of your community. think about who that serves.

it is not anyone with your best interest in mind.

Being overly-familiar with a series is such a weird burden sometimes because like

you’ll see some theory being passed around that you instantly know is wrong. Like it’s surprising to see people supporting it because the flaws in its logic are so glaringly obvious. Until it hits you that, yeah it’s wrong, but only because you were able to immediately remember the 5 second conversation between two background characters 17 minutes through s2e13 that definitively disproves it. And no casual fan would have any reason to remember that off the top of their head and it’s you who’s the weird human encyclopedia with a shot-for-shot memory the entire damn series.

Like at that point you don’t even know anymore whether to argue your point or just…maybe go outside for a little bit.

Do you ever think about autistic medieval nuns. I'm pretty sure there were some, it's statistically impossible there weren't nuns that were on the spectrum. Other nuns at the monastery looking at them like "Sister Margary always looks to be in peace and so content with this life, why cannot I be such a good nun as well" and then immediately start grieving about the sin of envy or some shit.

Meanwhile Margary has zero fucking idea that anyone is staring at her, busy thinking "oh man I sure fucking love having the same meal at the same time every single day, and then going back to my simple repetitive work where Nobody Fucking Talks At Me all day."

I wanna do one of those “if you’re lgbt put your orientation, sign and favorite tool in the tags” but I know most of The Gays have never touched a tool on their life. I’ll be left with 15 lesbians, one gay dude and a handful of bisexuals and they better all be tagging screwdrivers
