Doppelganger Arle’s Special Training Theater
Amitie: Oh nooo! I’m gonna be late to my Puyo battle with Arle—!
Neni I know Norse culture isn’t you forte. But a similar thing happens with the queer community when they try to interpret Loki as a Genderfluid icon for turning into a mare and getting ducked by a stallion . Despite the fact he only did that to help the asgardians win a bet.
Honestly, I find Norse Mythology super interesting too.
And also honestly, if the queer community wants to do that, why not? I know I used to be fidgety about stuff like that with fandoms in the past, but I've made the discovery that other people getting something out of a story that I didn't get from it doesn't take that story away from me. I think queer people having fun with the mythology is fair game as long as nobody is attacking people who interpret it differently from them either.
I've made a lot of friends recently who read and interpret stories and characters differently from how I do, but we still can have cool discussions and exchange about the material in question without attacking each other about our differing views of the text.
I think that should be the ideal we should strive for, rather than being scared that somebody is going to take our thoughts or fantasies away from us (as I mistakenly felt in the past).
Bottom-line: All the mythology says about Loki's gender is that he sometimes dressed as and/or transformed into female living beings for his mischief. How he himself felt about doing so is entirely up to our interpretation. That detail is not in the text.
(My thoughts are a taaad different when an interpretation directly opposes the original text/canon, but, as I mentioned in another ask I answered today, that sort of thing is an AU/AT to me and also totally valid and cool in its own right)
Hi!!! Do you still make Kingdom Hearts stuff?
Hey! I do sometimes, my latest KH pieces was this: https://www.pixiv.net/artworks/83203347
I didn't particularly like Kingdom Hearts 3 tho, so that's left admittedly a bit of a sour taste in my mouth, ahaha... But I still love the series up until 0.8 Prologue to pieces!!
How to you feel about Black headcanon when it comes to Anime? Do you see it as a harmful thing and taking away from East Asian representation?
Okay, starting disclaimer: I'm not Asian, I'm half coptic-egyptian, so I'm brown, but I obviously can't speak for Asian people. Furthermore, Asian people aren't a monolith. There will be Asian people who would agree with what I'm about to say and Asian people who would vehemently disagree, and both of them would be right in their own way. So listen to those two hypothetical Asian peeps when it comes to Asian Rep, and not to some random brown girl you found on tumblr~
My word is not gospel.
That said, I think people are way too harsh on policing each other's AU/ATs in general.
(I don't like calling them "headcanons", since to me headcanon is only a canon-compliant addition, not a version of the material that you altered creatively yourself, but I know that's just how language changes over time and all...)
In the end, Fanart and Fanfic is meant to entertain their artists and those in their circles, and doesn't alter the original material in any way that "takes it away" from others. So I think, when used responsibly, fan content like that can only *add* to a canon, but never take away from it
That said, when the artist and their circle in question are spreading harmful ideas (such as the idea that dark skin is unattractive or that certain totally normal behaviors are unacceptable, etc.) THEN that, of course, deserves criticism and above, depending on context.
But like, as a mixed brown person I say: Draw your fanart with whatever skintones you want on your characters! As long as you're not expressing that you think I and people with even darker skin than me look ugly and shouldn't be visible, I'm perfectly happy to see you express yourself. Same goes for Anime characters; yes a majority are intended to be asian, but as long as you're not actively trying to "erase" that canonical fact, make all the AU fanart you want! The multiverse is wide! Who's to say there *isn't* a dimension out there where Asian people are black? (I'm half-kidding-)
Good example: A while back someone did Splatoon Fanart where Pearl was black and Marina white, simply to make a statement about how much context matters when judging fanart. I found that very thought-provoking and kind of amusing.
Additionally, there's also the fact that a lot of Anime is set in fantasy worlds where "races" in our sense don't even exist, and in that case, I think interpreting the character skin-tones as whatever the heck you want them to be is more than fair game.

Do you think could you give more insight on Klug's Japanese speaking patterns? Thanks! ^_^
Okayyy!
(This is about Klug from Puyo Puyo, for those who wonder, lol)
So, analyzing Klug's Yakuwarigo/Role Language is interesting, because he basically speaks like a kid who is trying to speak like an adult but doesn't understand how adults talk.
For example, in terms of first person classifiers (which I refuse to call "pronouns"; because from a linguistic position Japanese really doesn't have pronouns in the western sense), he uses "Boku(ボク)", despite the fact that adults with his overconfident personality generally don't use it, unless they're trying to be sassy. Maybe he thinks of himself as more humble than he really is, or he simply never stopped using it ever since grade school despite his delusions of maturity. The games even sooort off point out how unusual his use of "Boku" can ring by having it always spelled in Katakana. Characters whose first person classifiers sound perfectly natural and unobtrusive usually have them spelled in Kanji or Hiragana. The fact that his Boku is written in Katakana (Just like Arle's) kinda makes it feel like it's "out of place" for him.
Moving on to grammer, Klug almost never uses the polite desu/masu-level of grammar UNLESS he's speaking to Accord or Lemres. That would ring normal and even realistic for a Japanese person, since code switching to a higher politeness level when confronted with figures of authority is a very natural thing in Japan, but, however, in early games where he's extra unpleasant it makes sure that the way he talks to the other kids rings extra dismissive. He isn't giving them any respect. His use of "Kimi(キミ)" in Katakana as a second-person-classifier for them makes it even worse; Kimi reduces distance between you and your dialogue partner, while also being informal. It can be kind and familial if used between close friends, but the way Klug uses it simply makes him sound dismissive. When talking to people you aren't super close to, you should use their name and avoid second person classifiers altogether. Klug, however, rarely uses other people's names to refer to them in direct dialogue unless, again, he is speaking to Lemres or Accord.
In more unusual news, he almost exclusively says "dai" instead of "desu/da" and "kai" instead of "ka", which, as far as I can figure out, is Yamaguchi dialect. I am not entirely sure why he does that, tho my gut feeling tells me that he probably thinks it makes him sound older, when it really doesn't. That said "kai" instead of "ka" is pretty common in anime characters to begin with, so using "dai" as a copula with extreme consistency is what really stands out for me.
[EDIT: I did some more research, and it’s apparently super unclear which dialect that “i” originally came from, but apparently people like to add it these days to make their sentences sound more “absolute”, which, I guess, makes sense-]
Finally, and most damningly, not only does he like using more Kanji words ("big words") than he needs to just to flex his vocabulary, he also abuses anglicisms to the point that it is hilarious. There are many cases where he will go, "GREAT; COOL, AMAZING!" in broken English in quick succession in a sad attempt to make whatever he is talking sound more impressive than it really it. Sometimes he's gracious and just leaves it at one Anglicism. He also says "Dark"(ダーク) instead of "Yami" (闇) and often says "cool" (クール) instead of "kakkou-ii" (カッコイイ).
On a final note, his chain-chants are in an old Japanese dialect that is equivalent to Shakespearean English. You know, Thy, Thou, Speaketh?
Basically everything about the way this boy talks screams Middle School Syndrome to me and I wanna punch his adorable, smug face.
Hello. Welcome back. I have long wanted to ask, what is the difference between Erebus and Ryoji? After all, both Wikipedia and the club book put = between their task of calling Nyx.
Ryoji is a representation of Nyx' Soul dispersed over all self-destructive aspects in human psyches, signaling to Nyx' body in the moon that its soul is ready to return to the body and thus initiating Nyx' "rebirth".
Erebus, meanwhile, is a demon born of the human desire for death, which tries to destroy the boundary between the collective unconscious and Nyx' physical form, and "Grasp" for Nyx to return and kill all life in the process. Erebus is proof that the desire for Nyx' soul to leave the planet and only leave behind destruction even exist.
Ryoji could only exist because Erebus exists, basically.
Oh my goodness, so glad you've returned!! I love reading your essays and stories, you could write about anything and make it enthralling! Hope everything's going well for you 😁
Thanks! As you can see tho I'm still not super active tho, lol. If you want me to write on any specific topic, feel free to drop an ask tho! I'll get to it as soon as I notice~!
By the way tumblr banned porn.
Yep, I am aware. Good thing I don't like porn.
have ya played/seen P3D/P5D and/or PQ2? any thoughts since they came out?
Yep, I've played P3D and P5D, but don't have much thoughts of them, since they only had a skit mode rather than an outright story mode. Still haven't finished PQ2, but not for lack of quality, lol. I just have been preoccupied with other things...
GO FOR IT, OFF THE HOOK! ! ! 🦑💞🐙
Bonus shoujo manga Pearl in Marina's style, I had to fight the urge to do all of Pearl's portraits in this style
i saw the hime haircut trending on twitter yesterday so i spontaneously drew my human pearl with it
Our translation of the audio drama “Time Space Travel Tour” is now available to watch on YouTube!
This translation was possible thanks to Neni. You can read her translation on /r/puyo24.
YAY, we did it~!!
I restored the “Teenage City Riot (Ali)” version of the TWEWY Anime Opening.
Honestly, I wish they’d just rerecord the song without the ATM-scammer drummer and put it back into the show. As much as I love “Twister”, this animation just wasn’t made for it.
EDIT: Bleh, it only uploaded the first couple seconds... Here’s the full one:
welcome back! have you had a chance to play persona 5 strikers?
I’ve been super busy with other games, so sadly not! I’m trying to take things at my own pace these days, ahahaha.
Hello Neni-chan. It me. :3
Hey there~~~!
Neni!! I've always loved your content! I was wondering, did you end up playing Persona 5 Royal? I thought it was fun!
I don’t have a PS4 of my own, so unfortunately not! I HAVE watched a lot of the new content tho, know all of the spoilers, and very much love it.
Bringing this over here from my twitter; the infamous magazine scan featuring the "Magical Girl Puyo 7" Concept Art, fully translated. The original scan was provided by @DusklightDGArle on twitter.
It reveals which stage of development that art came from and, among other things, finally confirms the long-held suspicion that the blue and yellow magical girls were early concepts for Maguro and Risukuma. And, yes, the idea of “Puyo Poppin’ Magical Girls” was, apparently, where the Transformation Mode originally came from. That sure explains why Ringo’s “Mega”-form outfit still looks pretty Magical-girl-y, huh?
When I posted this translation on twitter, I jokingly asked people to draw fanart of Risukuma as a baker’s and florist’s son, and some people actually did it! I’d urge you to search out that fanart on twitter. It’s really neat!
