Nationwide Swab for Sawab event.

We are still looking for a match for Liyna. In honor of Liyna, and the 80-95% of minorities with blood cancer who do not find a match and may not survive as a result, we are hosting a nationwide event with DKMS to help increase minority registration on the blood stem cell donor registry list.

We are urgently seeking a lifesaving match for Liyna.

If you belong to a masjid community that is interested in hosting a blood cancer drive on May 31st, for many the 27th night of Laylatul Qadr please check out the facebook event or email teamliyna@gmail.com

Please share widely.

A FAQ:

Who are they looking for?

Ideally, someone who is 18 - 44 of South Asian descent. Gender does not matter (have been asked this a lot). If you are not South Asian, I would still consider requesting a swab kit, because you might be a match/hero for someone else’s best friend.

Thank you everyone for reblogging and sharing, please continue to reblog and share and sign up for this!

🚨🚨🚨

today is Nov. 15. the FCC, under chairman Ajit Pai, will not listen to the public despite millions of comments in support of net neutrality. They are going to try their hardest to kill net neutrality, which in turn will kill the internet, which in turn will help eradicate democracy. it won’t just affect Americans, it has the potential to affect the entire internet, something we ALL use daily. you can bet your ass other countries will see america doing this, and use it as an excuse to do it in their own countries.

this is what buying a plan without net neutrality looks like there:

you have to pay MORE for features you’re already guaranteed to have under net neutrality. and in america, you already know how expensive everything is.

democrats AND republicans both want net neutrality. advocacy groups in touch with congress have said that if your members of congress receive calls from you, they are more encouraged and more likely to take action to stop Pai’s plan to gut net neutrality. after Nov. 22, it will be MUCH HARDER to convince your member of congress.

please, call them. call them daily.

hey guys, please reblog this version and don’t forget to call!!! if you are nervous about calling, you can use resistbot to send faxes to your reps and the stance app to pre-record your message so you won’t have to speak to anyone. (available in both google play and app store)

Reblogging this for the addition of Resistbot and Stance. I just tried out Resistbot, and it makes things SUPER easy - it adds the “dear (name of congressperson)” and “sincerely (your name)” automatically, so you just need to say what you want to say.

Women who are beyond done with all of this shit.

Every year, L’Oréal Paris sponsors a wonderful awards program that recognizes a group of women who "find beauty in giving back to their communities." Called the Women of Worthaward, the campaign recognizes 10 women for their respective contributions to bettering their communities, with the ultimate winner receiving a grant of $25,000 to donate to her charity of choice. This year's Women of Worth proceedings were going off without a hitch — that is, until a slew of Internet trolls decided to rally against finalist Rana Abdelhamid because of her race and religion.

As reported by The Cut, Rana, a human rights activist and social entrepreneur who at age 16 founded the International Muslim Women’s Initiative for Self-Empowerment, which supports Muslim women's empowerment through "self-defense and skills-based training," started to receive hateful comments on L’Oréal Paris’s Facebook page when a post featuring her story was published. The troll backlash to Rana became so prevalent that L’Oréal issued a statement on its social media accounts.

"We are very proud of Rana and all of our Women of Worth honorees. We believe in the intrinsic worth of all women, and do not tolerate hate in any form," L’Oréal wrote on Twitter. "We are saddened to see some hateful reactions to Rana’s story and are grateful to those that have responded in support."

Men are every bit as sneaky and calculating and venomous as women are widely suspected to be. And the bumbler — the very figure that shelters them from this ugly truth — is the best and hardest proof. Breaking that alibi means dissecting that myth. The line on men has been that they're the only gender qualified to hold important jobs and too incompetent to be responsible for their conduct... If you've noticed a tendency to treat girls — like the 14-year-old whom now-Senate candidate Roy Moore allegedly picked up at her custody hearing — as knowing adults and men in their 30s — like Trump foreign policy adviser George Papadopoulos and Donald Trump, Jr. — as erring youngsters, large sons and "coffee boys," this is why. Our culture makes that script available. It's why Sessions is so often referred to as an "elf" instead of a gifted manipulator.

Today Only is there campaign where every like/share of this video is a vote for IM WISE’s cause:

They need about 25K likes to win that 25K which will help IM WISE continue doing their work. Please please please share with your networks. They need all of the visibility they can get.

Please spread they and L’Oréal are getting a lot of hate for this!

“It’s The Same Sky”

How can I write about working in Tijuana without discussing the border and its implications? As one of our participants described how the border had torn apart her family, she expressed sadness and frustration all ending with a phrase that has been burned into my mind since – “it’s the same sky.“

The border has a profound impact:

  • Individuals trying to cross from Mexico into the US not only risk their lives but are taken advantage of repeatedly – from the initial smuggling fee (on average $8,500) to the monthly rent they encounter in the US (often up to $1,200) for a garage (the type of garage you park your car in - without a kitchen or bathroom) shared with up to 4 other people.
  • The deported are literally dropped on the Mexican side of the border wall with just the clothes on their back (minus shoelaces or belts, which are removed out of fears those can be used in suicide attempts) - no food, water, or a phone call. They are rendered extremely vulnerable especially those without the relationships, skills, or language to move forward. Women are at high risk for trafficking at this moment.
  • All Mexicans are dropped at the border no matter where they are from in Mexico, including those from southern states, which are over 2,000 miles away.
  • The border doesn’t just separate the US from Mexico – it separates us from individuals from all around the world who were trapped at the last mile of a long journey. Tijuana is full of people from Guatemala, Pakistan, China, India, Haiti, and other countries who traveled to South or Central America, ventured north, and then found the final barrier between them and the American dream to be insurmountable.

During my four months here, I have encountered countless stories of children, partners, or parents who haven’t seen each other in years because of the border. Politics aside, the border has a huge impact on families.

I'll end this by advising the Muslim youth: Tariq Ramadan is not a sincere scholar. Do not look to this man as your role model, your guide to help you in matters of your faith as you grow up, the supposed reformer who brings together Islam and the West. Womanising and rape have nothing to do with Islamic morality. Tariq Ramadan does not embody the character of our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). In all seriousness, I cannot decide who is more dangerous for my religion: the likes of Tariq Ramadan, the Islamophobes, or Islamic extremists.
