I luckily haven't had to deal with much chronic pain or hand pain yet, especially with regards to baking (crochet is another story). That said, these look like some pretty solid tips! There's also some in the comments section.

As this link nears five hundred notes, I'm just... very quietly touched at how many people are sharing it. Whether they need it themselves (or think they will someday), or know someone else who might need it, the fact that all of them are sharing the sentiment of "I want the people who love doing this thing to be able to keep doing the thing that they love" is... yeah. It makes me happy.

Babies don’t forget there’s an Etsy boycott from April 11-18 to protest the higher service fees recently instated for shop owners despite the fact that the company reported record profits last year. Etsy is usually one of my go-tos but I am absolutely going to stay off for the week. Without its vendors (many of whom are independent artists/creators) Etsy is literally nothing, and if these new policies are undermining their ability to stay on the site without risking their financial stability then they 100% deserve our support. No Etsy this week!!!

idk who needs to hear this but you don't stop needing play time, nap time, and floor time as an adult. if you can add those back into your life, you'll be happier

Man I hope they cancel standardized testing, any education professional can tell you it’s a bunch of useless horseshit that does nothing except make students and teachers miserable while utterly failing to accurately gauge understanding.

“why yall gotta make everything about race?”

because everything is about race. you just upset cause we’re talking about it.

Absolute control and submission.

This is the problem. Conservatives assume everyone is like them but with different priorities. They think the opposite of authoritarianism is queer authoritarianism, and the opposite of colonialism is the colonial oppression of white people. It doesn't occur to them that people who aren't on top of an oppressive regime could want anything other than to be on top of an oppressive regime.

Also why they think disabled people are “faking it” and “taking advantage of the system” - because they absolutely would (and do) cheat and steal to get what they want so of course that’s what we’re doing. It never occurs to them that an accommodation is in fact at best giving us the same access they expect as a bare minimum. To them it’s always a “perk” or a “freebie” and we don’t deserve it. If anyone deserves that it’s them.

can we please stop pretending this shit is good?!!?! What the fuck!!!!!

I don’t understand why this is a bad thing??

whats sold as inspirational here is somebody whose fear of being fired and having their source of food and shelter yanked away from them forced them to push themselves to unhealthy lengths

Walking isn’t unhealthy, whoever told you that is lazy. Dude got a job for a company and wanted to prove his reliability, he could’ve given up and not showed up but unlike most people he made a commitment and stuck to it and guess what. That commitment paid off. Its like you people are unable to handle when. Someone it’s doing better than you.

You have never walked 20 miles ever

How does someone see a 20 mile, eight hour walk as “a good work ethic” and not as a man whose been driven beyond his limits to ensure he doesn’t lose the one thing that keeps him from starving to death I mean what the fuck

God you people are fucking weak

sign your car over to me and walk to work to prove how strong you are

Even for soldiers who have trained specifically for such things, a 20-mile march is a fucking grueling experience. Nobody should have to do that and then be expected to work for eight hours. That is literally insane.

tomorrow the russian government is gonna add a few new laws in the criminal code:

1) if you’re posting a fake (fake is literally anything that doesn’t say the offical state information) - it’s a crime = you can go to jail

2) if you’re vocally against the war - it’s a crime = you can go to jail

3) if you’re saying the sanctions are good/are justified - it’s a crime = you can go to jail.

today, some of our opposition media sources were blocked for spreading information that was different from the official media.

today facebook and twitter were blocked in russia, god knows what will happen in the morning. maybe they’ll cut the internet for all I know.

please, spread the word. if some of your russian friends фку suddenly disappear from the social media - our government is doing everything for us to rely only on the lies they’re spreading.

if you ever get a rash in the shape of the target logo, especially up to a month after going hiking, camping, a stroll in a park or forest, or being near plants with any skin exposed, you need immediate medical care. a bullseye rash is a sign you have been bitten by a tick that causes a progressive autoimmune disease called lyme. not all people who get bit develop rashes. rashes can take weeks to develop after being bitten.

the longer you wait for treatment, the more likely you are to have permanent damage, need a pacemaker, or die. if you find a tick attached to you, carefully remove it, place it in a plastic bag, and seek medical attention. early treatment is essential.

going off of the number of ticks i’ve pulled off of stray animals lately, this spring and summer are going to be Extremely Bad.

  • Keep your pets up to date on tick prevention meds
  • Check your pets carefully after they come indoors.  Ticks tend to prefer the areas behind the ears, under the neck, around the nose, genitals, and anus.
  • Wear long pants with the cuffs tucked into your socks.  Basically, try to reduce the amount of skin that’s exposed while you’re walking in long grass.
  • Use bug repellent with DEET
  • Check your body carefully when you get inside.  Ticks are especially fond of areas where your skin is very thin, but will bite whatever they can reach.  Pay particular attention to your legs, under your arms, back of your neck, scalp, and genital area.
  • When removing a tick, DO NOT SQUEEZE IT.  This can cause the tick to just... spurt everything it’s consumed right back into you, which is Very Bad.  You can use tweezers, if you’re careful, but I prefer using a specific tool for it.  The tick twister works wonderfully and is very cheap.  It comes in a two pack, with two separate sizes for different ticks.  It’s very important that you remove the head of the tick.
  • Lyme disease isn’t the only tick borne disease.  Here is a list from the CDC, along with areas of concern.
  • Once a tick is removed, the site will probably be pretty itchy.  Try not to scratch it.  You can use cortisone cream to reduce itching.
  • For Lyme disease in particular, a tick has to be attached to you for at least 36 hours.  Other diseases can be transmitted more quickly.
  • Once you’ve removed the tick, take a clear photograph of it.  You can dispose of the tick in alcohol to drown it or place it in a plastic baggie.  It’s important to keep either the tick or the picture in case you develop symptoms.
