i think one of my favorite hidden parallels in pride and prejudice is that darcy initially hesitates in liking elizabeth because he thinks her family is really embarrassing and have a total lack of self-awareness when? he himself acts the same way at any social gathering?? and then later in the book/movie you are introduced to his aunt catherine de bourgh who is arguably ten times worse than the whole bennet family put together when it comes to rudeness and embarrassing behavior but the only reason she gets away with it is because she’s rich while the bennet family isn’t. this is why darcy’s initial pride made him so short-sighted to reality 

also once elizabeth rips into him about how he has no room to complain about other people’s embarrassing behavior, darcy actively Makes An Effort to change his outlook and learns how willfully ignorant he has been about his own behavior and the behavior of some of his fellow rich peers who are rude and shallow with zero self-reflection abilities. and he doesnt do this to get elizabeths affection (who he believes thinks of him as abhorrent and will never love him no matter what he does) but because he genuinely wants to become a better person and more well-rounded in general AND ONLY AFTER THIS does he become a complete Austen Hero and worthy of elizabeth’s hand in marriage

a little series i did on twitter, posted here now that it’s finished. born of my twin loves for Dick Grayson and aerialist silk acrobatics. this was an extremely fun project to work on, and definitely one i might revisit later if i can find more good poses to play around with
