It’s World Otter Day!

  • Sea otters are furry and photogenic, but those aren’t the only reasons to save them from extinction. Turns out that just by eating, otters can preserve their entire estuarine ecosystems
  • Six million years ago, giant otters weighing more than 100 pounds lived among birds and water lilies in the wooded wetlands of China’s Yunnan province. The discovery sheds light on how otters evolved.
  • A southern sea pup now known as Luna was found on a California beach in 2014. She was transferred to the Shedd Aquarium, where a naming contest was held for her. The name Luna beat out Cali, Ellie, Poppy and Ana. Her name is meant to signify California’s Half Moon Bay, near where the pup was rescued. Watch her playing around and eating a snack after being rescued!

Why do I go to work? Everyday I go in knowing that I’m making changes in the world. I am a warrior for conservation. I am a voice for those who don’t have one. Everyone I interact with is educated about something. How zoos make a difference. How the climate is changing. How their actions effect the creatures they’re seeing in front of them. I make relationships with wild animals, and by doing so get an intimate look at their behaviors, lives, and souls. What I do and what I learn everyday can be applied to a bigger picture. At work I have to be able to defend my decisions and actions because I am their voice. To the general public I have to defend my job, my passions. Every day I fight and defend my right to keep doing this. Changing things. Making things better. Changing people’s minds. Researching. Educating. Most people go to work for themselves, I go to work for them.

Hoorah for you! You kick ass and I'm so in awe of your passion and dedication. Plus thanks for the AMAZING otter photos 😉

Zoos prevent extinction. This is why I support zoos. This is why the world should support zoos.

Good zoos save species!!!

The key to this is release back into the original environment

The key is actually to have a suitable environment to release them to.

Such common sense!
