Chapter 21 of CI: Lacrimosa is here! Also, fair warning, this was my original ending for CI: Lacrimosa and one I have seen in my head for years and years, and it is very much a Downer Ending with a huge gut-punch once you read the last scene.

Fortunately we are not leaving it like that!! Also, in my original Downer Ending, Diego was ten but I decided that was just too traumatic an age for what happens to him and so aged him up instead to fifteen... ymmv if that's better or worse for him...

Anyway, this is a heavy, tearjerker chapter with lots of Foregone Conclusions let's just be honest and honestly I hope it breaks your hearts and makes you cry! :> ;)

i love the term "joshing." it's slang, meaning to joke or tease playfully. "i'm just joshing you." who is this notorious josh. who joshed so much that the whole concept got named after him

Do regular commenters know just how valued they are? I mean, obviously ALL commenters are valued, but as a fic writer when you’ve got a group of familiar usernames and profile pics who pop up again and again like old friends to share their thoughts and appreciation on one of your fics, that’s so special. I hope my regular commenters know that I remember them, and I recognise them each time they come back, and I am so incredibly grateful for them not only leaving comments, but leaving them time and time again. I hope they know they’re making someone, somewhere, smile.

the idea that it's 'creepy' to interact with things posted a long time ago is so terrible for artists and contributes to the pressure to be constantly creating new work, at an unhealthy and unsustainable rate. I hate it so much.

okay so i am by no mean saying that women had it better in medival times, i am not A Fool

however - a lot of chivalric code was structured in such a way that looks barbaric to us but did actually make sense for the framework the people who designed it were coming from

chivalric code starts on the conceit that adult men had better and easier lives than women, children, and the elderly - better food, better seats, more freedom, more strength and health (mostly because of the better food but i digress).

we today obviously acknowledge this as a Bad Situation, but the core sentiment of chivalric code is not “ha ha men are better than all these other groups” it is “we, as men, have a responsibility to take care of and protect people groups less fortunate than us”

basically medieval men opened doors for women and children and the elderly because they were usually stronger and doors used to be fucking heavy, often made of solid wood and metal, not to show off how gentlemanly they were

so while im not saying that i want to one-to-one recreate the medieval feudal system as i am not A Gotdamn Idiot, i DO think that the world would be a better place if all everyone collectively said “how can i make the world better for people who are worse off than me?”

Okay since you all keep asking here it finally is and the information about it can be found on the main Ice Age page over on TvTropes:

[Alternative Foreign Theme Song: The Japanese version has a surprisingly melancholy theme song for a family comedy. It's called "Hitoshizuku" which translates to "A Single Drop of Tears". This could reflect the first movie's Darker and Edgier tone compared to the sequels.]

#Ice Age#Ice Age feels#Original movie love#I have actually heard this song and it's actually quite beautifully heartbreaking and very appropriate for how feelsy IA1 is#also sorry anons - or if you're one same anon - for taking so long with this I couldn't remember where to find this song#but here it finally is yay!!#also lol how whoever the person at tvtropes described this song um this is a family DRAMEDY it was never not 'just' a family comedy#people that believe IA1 is simply a 'family/children's comedy' have clearly never watched IA1 which is the most Don Bluth-y of ANY#of the Ice Age movies and most of Blue Sky's other catalog#which is doubly ironic becos Bluth WAS asked to direct IA1 but he passed on it and yet IA1 itself carries hints of his darker motifs#and of course like The Land Before Time before IA1 Ice Age's sequels would follow Land Before Time's route of going cuter and cuddly#and losing the essences of the Original whyyyyyyyy#even little 12 yr old me did not want Ice Age's theatrical sequels to become modern Land Before Time sequels-redux :(

man, even just writing about the ending of IA1 from an outsider's perspective - in this case my OC Theo from my Cruel Intentions series for a L22 side-story - makes me tear up.

That ending, man. That ending! It's so beautiful and bittersweet and emotional and amazing. :')

Edit: and yay, "Peace Child" and/or "Written in Eternity" is complete! And it stands at 22 pgs and 6, 629 780 words so a longish one-shot for me... again... as usual...

Ugh :/#but yeah can we talk about IA1's ending more becos imo I think it deserves it#especially when compared to the storyboarded ending we /almost/ got and that Blue Sky is very hush-hush about and acts like it didn't exist#dunno if it's kept so under wraps becos of embarrassment or awkwardness becos that original ending wouldn't have gotten any sequels that's#for sure...#not to mention the Lost Dark Ending craps all over the 'what you do in a herd' message making it meaningless and irrelevant so maybe#it's a good idea how forgotten they made it becos that ending is comparable to the Trollhunters: RoTT ending in that it's atrocious#doubly so becos that Lost Dark Ending ends with the herd separated either by death (Diego) or shoehorned into romance plots at the end#instead of being ya know a 'weird herd' bonded together by the baby...#and given that in the Lost Dark Ending Manny and Sid fall apart without Diego that just makes Sid's IA2 claims of 'making' the herd#and Diego saying Sid is the 'glue' nonsensical becos apparently the Lost Dark ending - and IA3 too - seems to indicate/imply that DIEGO#is the glue of the herd since in IA3 the herd splinters once he says he wants to leave. hmm

By the way, where are you reading Lacrimosa? Because I just updated with L21 back on August 31st and I got comments from my regulars for that fic on both ao3/ffn but nothing new recently … so maybe your review/comment didn't go through because like I've noted, I got comments for L21 within a day or so of dropping that new chapter, but no new reviews/comments for Lacrimosa recently, if you are implying you left a comment not too long ago?

Because at ao3, the only recent comments I've received/shown up in my inbox are for Five Times Manny Hugged Diego and none for Lacrimosa...
