So Goodreads suggested that I do this thing where I add "insider notes" (oooo) to Axiom's End, so I did, and then they made me this fancy "social media asset." Now you can learn how Ampersand and Obelus could have been named EggsMayhem and Fight Club. And if you haven’t voted in the Goodreads choice awards, Axiom’s End is nominated in both Science Fiction and Debut novel, so... *nudge*
hello, tumblr I never use, Ive been asked by my publisher to leave this link here. Thank you for your time.

ruth bader ginsburg has died. call your senators and remind them over and over and over again of mitch mcconnell’s own rule to not replace supreme court justices in a presidential election year. call them as many times as it takes until they agree to not fill the seat until 2021. 202-224-3121
We’ve got one! Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) just said she’s not voting until after the election. We need three more!
Friends in Utah, please mobilize and pressure Romney. Inaccurate information was spread that claimed he had decided against voting on a candidate, and he is currently “deliberating.”
C’mon, Utah!
Made that feature you requested boss
We have done dat in Hungary too
2008: The Welsh reads: “I am not in the office at the moment. Send any work to be translated.”
Mine is “Activating forms of oppression as performance: the phenomenology of tunglr.hell.”

The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls
Concept art for INDEPENDENCE DAY (1996). I think these are by (random order) Patrick Tatopoulos, Oliver Scholl, and Tom Lay.
k, but—do use the word said. use ‘said’ over other descriptive verbs because it blends in and doesn’t distract the reader. if your dialogue is good enough, your readers will know if its being shouted or whispered or hissed or snarled or growled or what have you. you can use the fun words, but use them sparingly and intentionally. the less often you use them, the more impact they have. shoot for 90% ‘said’ or no attribution and only 10% fun attribution words.
ways to get away with no attribution:
-dialogue immediately follows the character’s action:
Alex looked up from his laptop. “Have you seen this article?”
-dialogue immediately precedes the character’s action
“I can’t believe you didn’t tell me this earlier!” Cassandra flung the newspaper across the room.
-dialogue is bouncing between two characters and we know who started (cut this with action or attribution every 3 or 4 quotes, though, so the reader doesn’t lose track)
“We’re working on it,” Wilder said.
“Oh, really?”
“Really. We should have definitive results this week.”
Leander slammed the file shut. “We needed results last week.”
One of the first notes I got from my editor, who is a veteran of over 30 years, was “just use said.”
Did I just have a viral tumblr post accidentally?
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s original notes for Phantom of the Opera have me rolling.
Forgive my terrible book page photos. Go support him and buy his memoir if you want to learn more. Somehow he is the most engaging and hilarious author I’ve read in a year 😂🤣 https://amzn.to/2vlv7zh
Erik! The Musical, bad title
Working on brushing up old reviews has inspired me to provide these for everyone playing along at home: Bad Phantom Adaptation Bingo!
Categories are behind the cut. I suggest drinking, especially if played with friends.
