If anyone wants to weigh in btw there's literally a petition doing the rounds to abolish the Prince of Wales title as a mark of respect to Wales. Please consider signing! Petitions aren't being heard by the UK government at the minute because democracy is disrespectful to the queen, but once the mourning period ends it would be good if Liz Truss is immediately and personally buried under an avalanche of signatures and demands.

Disney's worst casting

I think it's time people realize that racism goes both ways and you CAN be a racist towards white people

Here is a short list why disney should stop casting people of color as characters that are clearly white:

1. Ariel's father, king Triton, is a GREEK god of the sea. What color are the Greek? White

2. She is a representative of Red sea (each of her sisters represents a different sea), sooo you might think that her hair should be RED?

3. Let's not forget her blue eyes.

4. Disney wants more views by casting minorities but forgets that this wipes out the whole idea of the movie.

5. How was Belle (Emma Watson) white?? Why didn't they cast someone Asian? A clearly French woman in the 1500 will be WHITE because this is how things were.

6. Each and everyone who won't like the movie will be called a racist (me probably), even when the movie is shit and so is the casting of the main character

7. It is an animation with a CLEARLY WHITE CHARACTER, do you need another reason

And the same goes for most of the movies and series set in the past, which makes them unaccurate to a point, you stop watching.

I won't watch movies that blackwash my favorite characters.

Just wow. And the fact that OP thinks Disney created The Little Mermaid story..... No sweetie.

Even if they are trying to argue historical accuracy like other racist twats do, the Greeks weren't what we would consider white. They were intermixed with all sorts of Mediterranean races who, the bulk majority of, also are not white. (FYI, I specialized in ancient history for my B.A.)

But you see all of that is a moot point, you know why? IT'S A FICTIONAL CHARACTER. Plus mermaids are seeing throughout mythology from around the world, not just white-washed Europe.

It's sad, yes, a family has lost their mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, a nation has lost a figure head that has been in place for seventy years. There's no denying she was an extraordinary woman, and I had respect for her in that regard.

However, I'm not a royalist, and I'm heavily critical of our colonial past, and more recent present, so I might not be the best person to talk to about this 🀣

I don't remember that but I don't remember a lot of things. I had respect for the lady, and 96 is no mean feat (wouldn't we all like to live that long? lol) but she did preside over a lot of shit that shouldn't have happened 😬 unfortunately, being in the UK, we're getting this whole thing shoved down our throats, it's even on the ordering screens in McDonalds. I just feel like as a civilisation, in 2022, the time for monarchy has passed 🀣 and now they're gonna spaff a bunch of money up the wall for funerals and coronations when we're in the middle of an economic crisis and some of us are gonna have to decide between heating and eating this winter... it's not a good look, Britain πŸ‘€

Feels like a habit to come here and scroll mindlessly. Half the time I'm not even focused on the posts. You'd have thought all that lockdowning would have made us better at keeping in touch, but it feels like coming out the other side of the pandemic, we all forgot how to exist with each other.
