Reblogging partly for awesome computer shortcuts, and partly because I wish to once again take part in a Post That Broke The Notes.

the way some of you describe art that you like is genuinely incredible
i had a dream that "bald man summer" became a thing on this website and people started making edits of walter white and the guy from mythbusters
and with your help, it can become a reality

my favorite scene in LotR as a kid was when Sam started miserably freestyling in the tower of Cirith Ungol and the only reason he ever found Frodo was because he deliriously tried to join in
…i did read some of the novels, but i couldn’t get through them entirely…
…and so i genuinely have no idea whether or not this is serious. coz i mean, obviously, it could be a joke. but it could also have legitimately happened. people who have only seen the films underestimate the amount of random things that happen in the books that could come off as utterly silly and ridiculous if removed from their context.
Haha, well, it is pretty much what happens. Sam is looking for Frodo in the tower of Cirith Ungol and is despairing that he will ever find him. He sits down and does what any self-respecting Tolkien character does during their moments of hopelessness and bursts into song.
It’s a really good song (ten year old Ship had it memorized) and as he begins the refrain a second time, he hears Frodo’s voice answering weakly from above. Frodo is poisoned and despairing and beaten but he is still a Hobbit and cannot resist a singalong even while on the brink of death.
Some asshole: “Publicly funded postal services are obsolete. Private couriers can do everything the post office can do more cheaply and efficiently.”
UPS: *chucks a $300 piece of computer hardware from a moving vehicle to land in the middle of my driveway as I watch from my living room window, then takes off without ever coming to a complete stop; five minutes later, an email arrives in my inbox informing me that my parcel has been left at the door because the courier couldn’t find the requested no-contact dropoff location*
I want to emphasise that this is not a hypothetical scenario. It happened twenty-five minutes ago.
If it’s mail delivered by USPS not only will it be delivered to my mailbox or door but if my neighbor steals it or my landlord withholds it, or an abusive person in my life destroys it that’s mail tampering which is potentially punishable as a felony.
If FedEx doesn’t feel like walking to my door they drop it off on the driveway where it gets stolen and I get to spend the next 3 weeks waiting for a refund.
Actually, I think girls in middle school and high school should still feel comfortable having fuzzy pillows and lava lamps and glitter pens and sequin tops and a colorful wardrobe and whatever else they think is pretty or cool. Maybe we shouldn’t, like, try to beat the personality and life out of the youngsters, neither should we expect them to act like anything other than their actual age.
People wonder why kids are so obsessed with video games when I see grown adults telling *elementary schoolers* that they’re too old to play with dolls or play food or train sets, or that they’re being “ridiculous” for pretending to be animals or Frozen characters. I’ve met so many kids who are completely ashamed that they want to play with my toys when I offer because it’s for “babies” despite desperately wanting to.
Also as soon as you hit 22 you will be running straight back to the fuzzy pillows, lava lamps and glitter pens there's just this bizarre spot where you're a teenager when society says you shouldn't do those things
Most people my age have at least one stuffed animal in their bed, trust me you don't actually need to let that shit go
*waves this C.S. Lewis quote*
Also, if you have anxiety about being made fun of for buying yourself cute, "childish" things when you're older, take it from a former cashier:
We're not judging you. Tbh we probably are just thinking about going home. You're buying a toy. Could be for yourself, your child, a homeless shelter, a niece or nephew, anyone. The most a cashier will do or say is, "Aw, who you buying this for?" And if you say "me," 9/10 times the cashier will just be like "hell yeah."
And if you're not comfortable saying "me," then go ahead and lie. Who's gonna know? The cashier you'll probably never see again, who knows nothing about your personal life and will likely forget what you look like in ten minutes tops? Nah.
Buy the toys. Buy the fuzzy pillows. Get the glittery gel pens. The people who matter don't judge, and the people who judge don't matter.
Reblog and put in the tags how often you “clean” your tumblr account, deleting old posts.
Tumblr actually has an auto clean function! Where the search function immediately forgets tags and posts making them un-findable
when the amazon studios disco elysium adaptation comes out I am going to - and I cannot stress this enough - kill myself in front of the executive producer before a single photon from it can reach my eyes
Like there has literally never been worse news in the history of the world. What on gods green earth is this. I hope you die I hope we both die etc etc

This was on 48% of gaia girl profiles from 2003-2007
why do so many autistics find it offensive when theres people trying to find a cure for it? there are a lot of people out here truly suffering and wouldnt mind getting cured. i think, if its like a shot or sommet, then it'd be up to one and another to choose whether you'd take the cure or not. :/
This would be a personal preference. Yes, there are Autistics who would take a cure if they found one. I don't argue that.
However, I wouldn't because this is who I am. My personality, my likes, dislikes, my world views, how I've survived my trauma, how I live and love are all strongly bound up in that I'm autistic. It wouldn't be a cure. It would be a brain wipe.
Secondly, many of the things autistics suffer from are not autism. It's neurotypical world related. Not all of it, definitely. But I don't have meltdowns because I don't understand social interaction. I have meltdowns because the neurotypicals expect me to act like them during social interactions.
Lastly, this is how our brains are wired. I developed my Autistic brain around 20 weeks old still inside my mum. Autistics have always existed, and the modern world accounts for a lot of our suffering. Again, not all of it, but 200 years ago I do not think it hurt this much because it wasn't that loud.
Most of us do not want a cure because we weren't the ones to instigate the search for one. Neurotypicals were because we make them uncomfortable. We're difficult, different and "weird".
Most of us do not want a cure for our brains.. We'd like help with our symptoms, yes. But we don't want to cease to exist. We want to be accepted and helped. That's all.
Neurotypicals want to see us die out. And frankly, fuck that.
Neurotypicals want to see us die out. And frankly, fuck that.
I think this is one of the most prescient reasons many of us do not want people looking for a cure.
It'd be nice to think that if a "cure" was found, it would be up to the autistic individual to choose whether they receive it or not. But that's the least likely thing to come out of a "cure".
Look at autism support groups. The way that they talk about autistic children is sickening. I guarantee that they would push for drugging a child to destroy their neurotype in a heartbeat.
Look at what's happening around trans healthcare. Children are forced to go through the wrong puberty. Intersex children are regularly mutilated to fit perisex ideas of what's "right". Hell adults are being denied care because they are thought too incompetent to make those decisions.
Look at what happens to us crazies. We are forced to take this drug or that to make us better. We are routinely ignored by psychiatrists. We are told that we just aren't trying hard enough when the infallible treatment plan devised during the 15 minute appointment isn't working.
And then look at autistic folk who are trying to proudly live as themselves. They are ignored. They are treated like they can't know anything about anything. Their problems are minimized and brushed off.
So in this landscape, if we found a "cure", I don't forsee us surviving. I would expect all treatment and support to be contingent on giving the "cure" a chance. I would expect a public meltdown to run the risk of being thrown in a psych ward and shot up with this "cure". I would expect the vast majority of autistic children that would be given a choice to be the ones that slipped under the diagnostic radar.
It sucks, cause I bet there are plenty of folks out there that would rather be allistic. And if we as a society had the option to change our neurotype voluntarily, I'd be 100% down for it. But it's just not in the foreseeable future that it would be voluntary at all.
☝️
Autistics are at risk of forced hospitalisation as is. Any "cure" would be forced upon us.
We're at risk of forced hospitalisation, police brutality and murder, higher risk of SA, abuse and mental health issues.
I mean, it's honestly hard to even conceive of what a "cure" would mean. Like autistic-af talked about above, it's everything, it affects our whole selves. When I try to imagine what a "cure" would mean, it's basically imagining myself as an entirely different person. It may be a good life, but it wouldn't be mine, it wouldn't be me. It's hard to even think of wanting that or benefitting from it, because that different person would want and need totally different things. And I'm saying this as someone who has suffered greatly just today because of part of my autism (sensory overload).
Because of the complex and pervasive nature of autism, an actual cure doesn't seem plausible anyway. When people talk about a "cure", they usually really mean a prenatal test, so that doctors can push for abortion in positive cases, just like they already can with Down's Syndrome.
