For holding the fabric, it's like a third hand to help you while you hand sew. It clamps to the table and the bird's body and head are a big spring loaded clip that holds things. I've never used one, but it would be neat to try.
A lot of them also have pincushions.

I have one I got off Etsy and it's an absolute joy and delight. It really helps save my left hand on long straight seams, though it's not as useful for short ones.
i cannot EXPRESS how important it is to me that people used to approach making everyday little gadgets and tools, like this very simple-in-design clamp/clip combo, with the attitude of “hey why not make it a cute little bird?” it’s such a simple thing but i think the shift away from making things useful, long lasting, AND lovely is pretty significant.

Finally done the pic to set the mood for the warlock patron AU and fic I’ve been holding on to! Plus my favourite line to describe his motivation and philosophy, I’m really happy with how this turned out and I’m glad I can share it. Finished the art and fic for the Warlock Patron AU on my side blog! Stared a lot at the decorations in the dome for ACOFAF for some inspiration on how to do the plants and the intro to Hunchback of Notre Dame for the stone shading. I’m really happy with how it turned out tho! ;v;
