See I think the big problem with 9/11 is that...no, it's not about the victims. Not anymore, anyway.
At first, it was about the victims and the first responders and those who were physically there when it happened. Then we did a war over it and in less than a decade the day became all about America's military. I went to an event today and the people who died on that day felt like an afterthought compared to all the "honoring our soldiers" bullshit. And that's not even TOUCHING the hideous racism that hasn't been questioned nearly enough for 21 years, but I don't feel equipped to talk in detail about that.
If today was about honoring the innocent people who died, it wouldn't get mocked the way it does. But instead it's used to justify racism against people who had nothing to do with it while uplifting people who also had nothing to do with it.
All this to say I haven't seen nearly enough Turning Red memes today, come on yall chop chop
