Thought processing go brrrrrrrrrrr

Hi! I'm Joules. I love to learn new skills, I once ate groundhog (not whole or anything), and I'm not a fan of oversimplifying arguments for the sake of feeling good about your own position. This blog includes things that make me think, and things that make me audibly laugh.

my family fucked up my life by using spoonerisms interchangeably with their true phrase counterparts since before i was born and now i can’t escape from instinctively saying shit like “im gonna shake a tower”

oh “meeking a smee” made me feel like i was being fucking tazed

theres a lot of people on this website who dont realize their dad is a gnome

I once went into a Spirit Halloween and insistently asked about their deelybobbers.

I am super against light pollution, and have been for decades

but I am also super annoyed by the way it's framed as "without light pollution you can see how beautiful the night sky is" way more prominently than it's framed as "hey, did you ever stop to think of how much energy/resources/money are literally wasted by having so much light shine up into the sky?"

so people get the idea that light pollution can only be remedied by eliminating all night-time light, which would make being outside at night very inconvenient, instead of by making night-time light shine only on the ground where, y'know, the people who need it are

The mildest example of what OP's talking about in Dunedin, Aotearoa:

This is just with the streetlamp equivalent of using lampshades. Imagine what truly directional city lights could achieve?

I love that the phrasing makes it seem like a wedding announcement -- as though they've married and Dan Radcliffe took Weird Al Yankovic's last name

I think it’s important to recognise that hostility toward competing access needs is an inevitable consequence of treating “neurotypical” and “neurodivergent” as a pair of binary categories into which all people can neatly be sorted. If you’re thinking about neurodivergent people as a monolithic group who all have certain specific traits, and neurotypical people as a complementary monolith who all have the exact opposite of those specific traits, there are a lot of legitimate access needs that are going to sound like bullshit to you.

it’s wild to me how there is literally ZERO correlation between what a piece of media is like and what its fanworks are like. 2014 captain america fans were out there writing poetry and full-on academic papers inside of their fics. sonic the hedgehog and my little pony fandoms are both famous for drawing fetishes you’ve never even heard of. les miserables fans spent most of their energy on college aus. there is literally no consistency or observable pattern and it’s incredible
