AA Tips: A Guide to Grids

One of the most important things about planning for a table at an Artist Alley is to figure out how you’re going to display your stuff! In general, you want to make sure you display your stuff vertically so that your wares can be seen even in crowded convention halls. There are a number of different ways to do this, including using PVC pipes or photography stands, but one of the most common ways is to use wire storage cubes, also known as grid cubes or grids.

The more I hang out in AA online communities, the more I see questions about how to use these cubes – where to get them, how you hang artwork off of them, and more, so I thought a mini-guide would help clear things up! :)

Hey, I know this is old, but for your set up, how many frames did you need? Would a 9 cube shelf set be enough or is 12 necessary?

For the setup I describe in the article, a 9-cube shelf set should be enough, since I only use one full cube on the bottom level of each side, use ~half a cube for the second level, and only use 1 grid panel for each section of the top level (I hope that makes sense! The drawings in the article should hopefully make it more clear). I believe I actually bought a 6-cube shelf set for the setup in the article! Nowadays, I get by with less. You can see a little more recent photo of my setup in this (still old, but newer) blog post about how I started using a photography stand for my setup -- I actually just removed the middle connecting frames so that I have two freestanding grid displays that are made of 8 panels each.

Oh! It looms like I miscounted or misread the number! Sorry about that. >_< Congrats on finishing all of Drawtober! ^ ^

Haha no problem! And thank you so much!

did you skip prompt 13?

I don't think so! Here's the one I did for Day 13. But let me know if I'm misunderstanding your question, I wouldn't put it past me to accidentally forget to do one ^^;
