I've been thinking about that anon post like, "why are you as a butch taking a bubble bath?" Or something ridiculous like that and was ruminating on why people are so fucking weird like that and came to the conclusion that people perceive masculinity in an inherently exclusionary way. Cis men get exiled from proper performance of "man" easily for mannerisms perceived as too feminine, so that is the working framework for many as "masculinity." Essentially this same lens is being transposed onto butches.

Disclaimer that this isn't necessarily about appearance!!! I am perceived as a "hard butch" but have many interests considered more feminine. I think it's just a unique form of misogyny and homophobia, but in a way that frames us as basically men and if we like periwinkle or something that's like, a "gay" thing for a cishet man to like, that makes us less masculine, to seemingly many people. Thus the insane things people say to butches.

@transnecoarc Yep. Effeminate gay men have been instrumental to me personally in the way I perceive my gayness and expression of masculinity.
