Balicake for Breakfast

@hyperbali / hyperbali.tumblr.com

thirty-something indecisive artist with an incessant love for fashion and pretty things, occasional fandom, and ranty bits

I had some old designs for a Sherlock thing I drew a couple years ago... I've since changed the year from 1890/1891 to 1886/1887 and the fashion differences are so extreme I have to use entirely new references 💀

Unfortunately not 😖 I'm in Texas and it's city-run, they just want their money... we're going to try and see if the landlord can come inspect and deal with it, but the bill still needs full payment

I have bills to pay, so: commissions are ✨ officially open ✨!

Hmu at balicommissions @ gmail .com, I'm going through my emails now 👍

Something I should have added in the original post, but will now:

Due to P@yPal's increasing fees, there will be an additional $5 charge for orders under $100, $10 charge for orders over $100.

I hate that I have to include that, PP is becoming increasingly hostile for artists to use 😥 if you can or want to use Venmo or CashApp, I'm more than happy to nix the fee - but if we're using PP, it's non-negotiable.

So there’s a leak in the house somewhere, and our water bill is over $1k…. 8)))))

I’m putting these adoptables back out for sale, $99 each! Another $20 will get you a headshot to go with.

And, of course, my comms are open! Hit me up at balicommissions @ gmail.

Wow i hope all landlords in the world die

for ppl wondering i saw this yesterday on twitter and read some of this (honestly couldn’t handle reading it depth but i skimmed), the victim was a Black senior citizen and apparently they were taking this money out of this woman’s government benefits. additionally her neighbors were worried about her and did try to get police involved within a month of her death (still unknown at the time) AND they made complaints about the smell and flies.

nothing was done at any point to figure out what had happened to this woman by anyone with any authority or power to do so. and i think knowing she was a Black elderly woman specifically is important to how this situation played out

A couple of amendments, as this happened in the UK and has been widely covered here: Sheila Seleoane was 58 when she died, so not elderly but middle-aged. Apparently she was working as a medical secretary at the time, which makes it even more disgusting that she wasn’t declared missing by her employers or colleagues and her flat searched.

Also, the flat was owned by the Peabody Trust, a very old and well-known housing association (a not-for-profit company), rather than a regular landlord. Housing associations were founded on charitable and caring principles; the reality these days is anything but, as they are run as businesses and staffed by people who don’t see the tenants (who are poor and often vulnerable) as human beings. Sheila had been a model tenant and it still didn’t afford her any respect or dignity.

It also hasn’t escaped my notice that Sheila had been to see a doctor regarding chest pain the same month that she is estimated to have died (she also seemingly had an inflammatory bowel condition). Because of how long it took them to find her, a cause of death can’t be confirmed. But it seems very likely that what turned out to be a fatal condition had been brushed off as nothing of concern. No prizes for listing the three things that would have led to her not being listened to by a doctor.

So, you know, a whole mess of people not giving a toss about this poor lady.

THIS IS THE SECOND BLACK WOMAN THIS HAS HAPPENED TO IN THE UK. First Joyce Vincent now Sheila Seleoane .

This one gets its own post, too - s/o to @leafwhirlwind, you're a real one (and no, I don't mind being called bestie, lmao)

It's always going to irk me that the first Black Disney princess was given the coolest setting for design work and she's been paid nothing but dust 😔 a frog for most of her own movie, they put her in a Cinderella style 1950s cupcake ballgown, and... whatever the hell that is in Mirrorverse...

So, obviously, needed to rectify at least one of those atrocities 😤
