Hunchback History

@hunchbacked-one-eyed-lame / hunchbacked-one-eyed-lame.tumblr.com

An archive of adaptations, artwork, and music inspired by Victor Hugo’s novel Notre Dame de Paris. This blog is dedicated to historical research and preservation.

I am officially seeing the new off Broadway hunchback musical this weekend. Have any of you guys seen it?

There’s a new hunchback musical that is premiering off Broadway in nyc next month. Gonna try my best to preserve as much as I can. Theatre productions are the biggest offenders for being lost to history

saw nddp on the 17th and cried when they played the first few notes 😂 so amazing!! but about the program book: my sister got it and it’s so embarrassing! i haven’t had a chance to really look at it, but the sections i did read have a lot of grammar and spelling errors.

I will elaborate on this later, but it’s a travesty. Google translated surely! Not to mention, some bios are written in third person and some in first. Not worth the money

The best part of the nddp revival in nyc was that they changed “anarkia” to ananke - which is kind of the same thing as anarkh

I saw nddp at the David Koch theatre last weekend!

Whaaat? I saw it there the 13th - I wish I'd known you were there for the show, I could've said hello to you! ^^

Apparently the person who ran the great Hunchblog of Notre Dame was there too. I should’ve made an announcement so there could have been a nddp fan meetup lol.

Even though I’m very critical of the show, I have to say that it works so much better as an actual in person experience. I enjoyed myself, although the program book was wretched (story for later)

I was there with my partner and she described it as “the most European thing I had ever seen”

what do you think of the rumor disney is announcing casting for the live action hunchback at D23 this year?

Didn’t hear the rumor, but I know the casting will be … not great

There's a French radio play adaptation of the novel you can find on Youtube if you type "nddp french radio play" and it's with English subtitles.

I’m interested! Do you have a link?

Article from the June 1996 issue of Animation Magazine, featuring interviews about the upcoming Disney film “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.”

This quote from producer Don Hahn stands out to me:

“There’s a tremendous amount of creative freedom now.” It goes to show that the film that was made was the film that the animators wished to make, and was not subject to significant studio pressure.

My partner has written a transcription of my interview with tab Murphy. In addition to being one of the nicest things that anybody has ever done for me, this will make it easier for people to get info from

could disney make frollo the archdeacon like he was in the book, in the live action remake? it proves that some archdeacon can be corrupt by lust, so why not give it a try?

They could! It's a free country. Religious conservatives have less cultural power now than they did 25 years ago, so the worry of being offensive by having an evil priest is less of a financial concern. The current cultural landscape says its fine to have anti-relglious themes in media, but that can always change. Cultural preferences come and go. Progress is not linear, and history shows that.

But in all seriousness, I feel that they would make the change, like in the musical. Hopefully that don't ruin Frollo's character, like that version did.
