this is my favorite reddit thread of the day and i want to share it with you all
aside from, yknow, the logical and compassionate public health aspect of not letting covid rip through and kill/disable a decent portion of the population,,, it doesnt even make economic sense either. literally every single workplace is suffering interruptions thanks to staff regularly being off sick and being able to get reinfected within just 3-4 weeks. the food supply chain has been disrupted on every level leading to shortages. the already worn down health system is on life support and HCWs are leaving en masse.
more and more people are suffering from long covid and aren't able to work the same hours they used to or at all. even those who, on the surface, appear to gotten through covid unscathed can still be affected and many are dropping dead from "unexplained" heart attacks and strokes. more and more people have had multiple infections, exponentially increasing their risk of covid complications. we're only 2.5 years into this pandemic and the long term effects so far are horrendous. who knows what effects we'll see on the population in 5, 10, 20+ years like with chickenpox (shingles), HIV (AIDS), HPV (cancer) etc
the cost of even the most basic mitigations like masking, paid sick/isolation leave, improving ventilation etc. will be nothing compared to the long term effect on the economy and yet business and government continue to place short term profits above human life and wellbeing.
obsessed with what's happening on twitter rn
Yea, he belongs here
For context, @neil-gaiman has NOTHING to do with the new LOTR series
Hell yeah
The funniest thing about the war on cars video is that they unironically believe replacing parking lots with public parks is something horrible, fucking lol
Wtf I love war now
sorry to rb this twice in a day but it kills me how foxy the trans lady is at the end of her war on boys. love you, sis. fuckin get it, girl.
licherally cannot explain to adults these days that im actually so cool with the idea of being "just an employee" somewhere as long as i am paid enough to live comfortably and i also like the job. "but dont you want to be rich?? dont you want to always be striving for more???" like that sounds EXHAUSTING and i like having friends so
I'm moving to part-time at my job bc of this.
I highly recommend if you only want to do the bare minimum to get by comfortably (and maybe pay into your debt and shit), but only currently make minwage, if you're looking at schooling for something that pays better: to try to work in healthcare. Esp allied health, ie the non-doctor, non-nurse technician kinda jobs.
It sucks. A lot. But there's often a lower cost of entry than 4 years of college and shorter schooling if you go for tech schooling. And part-time pay at even just a tech job can sometimes = full-time retail. And there's a huge demand rn bc so many healthcare workers died or moved away from healthcare.
They have a lot of part-time and per diem positions and in some cases are so desperate that even if they don't want to pay part-time benefits, if you start full-time and move to part-time with benefits they'll keep you on and just change your hours to what you want.
disrespectful
not being a dick but who makes a movie about 9/11 and casts fucking charlie sheen and whoopi goldberg
what dark magician weaves this world
It’s wild that back in the day futurists assumed that with increased automation and computers it will enable people to have more free time, but in actuality it just make the capitalists decide to make people do more work for less instead.
Like, “Oh, you did what used to be a week’s worth of work in a few hours? Then you can gets months of work done in an entire week! Make more money for me faster, hooray!“.
Say syke please….
It’s literally just the end to cash bail. DC and New York have had some version of this policy for years.
This rules and should be universal
I am all for the end of cash bail, I just don’t love the idea of kidnapping and murder being essentially legal
Good news: they aren’t! This Instagram post is lying about the policy and trying to make you think that cash bail is effective at stopping crime
If someone really seems a true danger they don't allow them bail at all. This is just making it so the people they allow on bail don't have to pay money for it. Requiring cash bail just effectively causes the poor to stay in prison while waiting for trial, regardless of whether they're innocent, and the entitled rich to walk away back to their normal lives. There should be no rich/poor divide here. It should be "are you too much of a danger to release until trial or not." Yes or No. Boom. Full stop.
If someone is considered low enough risk for release until trial they shouldn't have to pay for it. Esp with how many innocent (largely minority) people get falsely charged for shit by corrupt cops.
And that's not even getting into the predatory bail bond industry.

please tell me someone’s done a boomer comic about this because if not I think I’m going to have to
subscribing to this post because I would like to see the comic
At this point half the reason I still put up with TiKTok is the insane bakers and cooks. I mean LOOK AT THIS.
::softly:: what the fuck
Ok, so I was reading this news story:
So far so normal, right? But then:
Like what. And then:
Like, I think Alaska State Trooper Ken Marsh wants to be a romance novelist.
well would you look at that
One of the best posts
If you went by what you see on TV you’d think the nation was gripped in a collective outpouring of grief and.. it isn’t! No spontaneous flower tributes, no black armbands. People are just getting on with their lives. The only public displays are by brands and businesses.
Look at the number of flowers in town today under the queen statue. They’ve optimistically set the barriers far back anticipating thousands. There’s about 15. There was no one there paying their respects either. Literally no one. The biggest queue was at a burger van nearby.
From the somethingawful forums, the live thread when 9/11 happened
This thread was wild, especially because the OP was posting webcam photos from nearby right after the first plane hit. Possibly before CNN even reported on it.
wow terrorists hijacking a plane that’s fucking rich, you idiot, you complete buffoon
This poster might be one of the first dozen people in history to publicly accuse Osama Bin Laden, possibly before any news agencies, and their post has the words “ROTFL Owned” in it.
🤔🤔🤔
Posted not even 2 hours after the 9/11 attacks and this person predicted the next 2 decades of American public policy. Remarkable.
