Retiring this blog - follow @joshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh instead
That’s @joshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh for the direct link
Yeah so what’s up here? Well basically, I started this specific Tumblr like, 5 years ago, and for the first few months I had variety content, but after a while I decided to lock myself into Sonic for a reason I don’t really remember, beyond the obvious of just loving Sonic a lot anyway.
But no matter how much I love Sonic, committing myself solely to Sonic was gonna be boring after a while, and I wanted to give myself the freedom to talk about other shit as well as Sonic. So around 3 years ago, I made @joshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, because I felt like @green-hell-zone should still exist and still have Sonic content on it for the people who followed for that, meanwhile @joshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh could just build itself up naturally over time too.
Of course, the inevitable result of having a blog where I posted any content including Sonic at the same time as I had a blog where I only posted Sonic, is that after a while, the Sonic blog lost what little personality it already had. I stopped making original posts, I barely added anything in the tags, I didn’t attempt to engage in discussions over anything. I’m quite certain the last post I made on this blog is me saying the movie was okay day 1 of its release, but meanwhile on @joshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I’d written a full review of the damn thing.
And then running a blog that doesn’t have its own personality just kinda sucks. It turned into an obligation more than anything. Every time I’d see this blog, I’d look at the queue and realise it’s only got like a week’s worth of posts left, and so now I have to try to fill it up more, because that’s what this blog is, it’s whatever Sonic things I see days prior reblogged at specific times with nothing added.
Now if we go over to @joshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, I’m posting whatever I want, whenever I want. It’s almost definitely more reblogs than original content, but I do have original content. The actual quality of that content is debatable, but I feel like enough of my personality’s in there to where it’s more fun than whatever this blog is.
I do of course realise that a potential solution to the problem of “this blog is boring to run” is to make it fun for myself again. Don’t commit so hard to the queue structure, actually engage with people and talk about the things I’m interested in, stuff like that. But then I don’t see a reason to segregate my interest in Sonic from everything else I’m interested in, so it’s just easier for me to keep all my interests and invest all my personality into @joshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh instead of running this blog that’s just inherently less fun for me since I’d still need to restrict myself to Sonic. I can’t have this blog be not Sonic because then what would be the point of @joshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, you know?
Think I’ve made clear why I’m giving up on this blog, so what can you expect to find on @joshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh? Well, most obviously, Sonic’s still there. I don’t reblog as much Sonic stuff as on here, but that’s because I just reblog what I see and what I like rather than seek content I don’t even care about just to fill a quota. But then in terms of original Sonic content, I’ve got way more. Most of it just being talking about the series in some way, like obviously the movie review I mentioned, but I also played through most of the mainline entries in the series a few months back and had posts on all of them. And just other general Sonic stuff. @joshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh is a more fun Sonic blog for me than this one despite it not even being a Sonic blog.
Mixed in with Sonic stuff are some other video game things, Mario, Zelda, Mega Man, and whatever other games I might be interested in at that time.
But moving beyond that, the bulk of my content is undoubtedly related to anime. Yep, weeb trash. I’m basically always talking about currently airing shows, and trying to make progress through my massive plan to watch list. I talk about basically every single episode of anime I watch, which is the bulk of my original content. But I also reblog lots of fanart for the various shows I’m watching. And let’s be transparent, a lot of it is just moe stuff. I like cute girl anime. And magical girls too. As of writing this post, my most prominent interests are Madoka Magica and Love Live, and they’ve been that prominent for about 3 years so, I don’t expect myself to stop posting about them anytime soon.
So yeah if you follow @joshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, expect to see predominantly anime content, a good amount of video game stuff, and then just whatever else I find funny or interesting or aesthetically pleasing, or maybe I’ll talk about how my day went and complain about it being wet outside or whatever. Basically, just expect a normal Tumblr blog, rather than someone’s half-hearted attempt to commit to a theme that they felt restricted their enjoyment of Tumblr more than anything.
Just to wrap a few things up, @joshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh is technically a sideblog, by Tumblr’s own terms. It can’t send asks or reply to people, basically. And it’s tied to the same email as this blog. What this means is that I can’t delete this blog without deleting @joshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, which I don’t want to do. So this blog will stay up.
I mean, honestly, I don’t want to delete it anyway. I still think it’s cool to have this big fat archive of tons of random Sonic fanart and stuff, and I can also always go read what original posts I do have on this blog and cringe at me misattributing every bad Archie thing to Penders and every good Archie thing to Flynn when it’s so much more complicated than that, and other such things. So yeah this blog will still exist.
What that also means is that if you do have anything to say to me, be it in as an ask or by a message or whatever, you totally can. I’ll read them, I’ll reply, that’s it. That being said I do realise that like, having approached this blog without a personality for so long means that nobody really has an opinion on me. Which is to be expected, I don’t talk to people here or share my opinions on anything. So why would anyone really care? I don’t mean that in a self-deprecating way at all, I just recognise that I’ve never run this blog in a way that makes me in any way an appealing personality to follow.
@joshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh meanwhile is actually a person, I mean I’m not that sociable anyway so maybe you don’t see me interacting with loads of people but it happens there way more than it ever has here.
Not really sure what else to say. I intend for this to be the last post on this blog, so I feel like I want to say everything I feel about this blog. But then I also feel like this is probably enough. If you’re still reading this meandering excuse of a “follow my better blog” post, then you’re clearly tolerant enough of very wandering opinions to where @joshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh might really appeal to you lol. Uhm, yeah. I guess, follow @joshhhhhhhhhhhhhhh because I should hope that it’s pretty much a one of a kind blog. This blog sucks because you can follow about 800 other people who just reblog Sonic fanart. That works for them but I’m tired of it.
I think that might be it. I don’t want to say it’s been a good run, mostly because that makes it sound like I’m quitting Tumblr forever when really I’m just giving up on one specific blog while the already active one continues at its normal rate, but also because it’s not really been a great run. Again, I’ve been bored of this blog for a while. But hey, it’s not like I’ve never had fun with it. Random interactions with people around the Sonic fandom tend to be pretty fun, I don’t want to @ anyone in particular but if you think I have had some sort of vaguely positive exchange with you, I probably have. Thanks, everyone.
