now that i’m older and understand how absolutely fucked the housing market is, all those horror movies that take place in nice houses where the family refuses to leave make sense. if i had a 4,000sqft vintage home you’d need to kill me before i ever moved out as well. fuck the ghost. charge it rent.

so was no one was gonna tell me that the painting saturn devouring his son was found painted directly onto the walls of the artist’s home after he died and that it may not even be depicting the greek legend, that’s just the most common interpretation??????

hello????

Not only was it painted on the wall of his house, it was painted on the wall of his dinning room.

Like imagine you go over to your boy's house for dinner and that's across from you while you eat. Like would you say something or just

This is the painting is question by Francisco Goya. Not only was this painting found, but a series of 13 other disturbing pieces of art called his “Black Paintings”. At this point in Goya’s life he had lost his hearing (well most of it) and had moved into a villa where he became a recluse. This was directly after the Napoleonic wars. These paintings were never meant to be found. They were never commissioned and he solely made these for himself.

This is where they think each of those paintings was placed in the house.

What in the goddamn...?

tumblr finding out about fucked up art history is so fun to watch

As we enter a new year, it’s worth remembering the many reasons why this is a special place to be alive.

Bats can hear shapes.

Plants can eat light.

Bees can dance maps.

We can hold all these ideas at once and feel both heavy and weightless with the absurd beauty of it all.

(Poem from Field Guide to the Haunted Forest by Jarod K Anderson)

See the thing about Oppa Homeless Style is it doesnt matter if it was ever “real” or not because the effect it had is real just the same. this whole situation is more or less what Metal Gear Solid V is about.

how come cats look outside and start vibrating their little mouths so much and so quick while sounding like they are printing copies from a fax machine. why do birds do that to them.

There's drama in the vintage community about people buying rare and expensive pieces on eBay and Etsy, and then taking them to their local Goodwill and filming it so that they can act like they found it in the wild for old people clout.

They make YouTube videos like, "RARE $10,000 1920s FLAPPER DRESS FOUND AT SALVATION ARMY IN PERFECT CONDITION???" and then somebody will comment, like, "YOU DIDN'T FIND THAT THERE! I SOLD THIS TO YOU LAST WEEK ON ETSY. YOU'RE A LIAR AND A FREAK ASS," or however old people type, and everybody gets their ass until they delete their channel. Obsessed with it.

Full offense but I don’t ever want to have to communicate with a machine by speaking to it. Verbally speaking to a machine just feels icky and degrading. I don’t want to describe what I want into the phone prompter. Just let me press 1. I don’t want to address Alexa by name. I don’t even want to waste my precious human language on a chat AI. It is a rock. It is a piece of electrified metal. Do not command me to address the rock with the conceit that it is a human being

I don’t like the way people speak about Neanderthals. They were humans too. They buried their loved ones in intricate ways with grave goods. They had graveyards. They cared for the sick and disabled members of their groups when they could. They raised and loved their children. Their culture had a degrees of gender equality not evident in other hunter-gather groups. They made soup. They were highly intelligent like their early modern human counterparts, they just didn’t have the benefit of cumulative knowledge like humans now do.
