hello everybody

a few weeks ago i was in a car accident that left my vehicle useless. i had to sell it for parts for about a hundred dollars. i was basically living out of that car because i cannot go back to my parents home where my racist queerphobe brother in law (who is an nra member and makes the place completely unsafe) lives. now i have to take public transportation all over san diego county, which can be expensive at times, just so i can get around to my doctors appointments and to my belongings that i’ve had to store at people’s places where i’m allowed to. my car was my only real form of income (i was doing delivery services for an app). i am really in need of financial assistance. anything you can give will be tremendously helpful in this trying time. i’m a disabled trans woman of color and finding employment has been impossibly difficult. thank you for your time an attention.

i’m so broke and i still am waiting for these interviews please help

i recently have had the pleasure of becoming online friends with clara (@queerkegaard on twitter) via one of my closest friends. due to the current situation in venezuela, she has a hard time affording food and hormones.

additionally, her family situation is bad–with her parents subjecting her to transphobic and other abuse. ultimately she intends to try to move to the united states. this fundraiser is intended to help her survive and develop strategies to become more independent in the mean time.

According to detainees who witnessed the bags being used, to place a detainee in a so-called body bag, a group of ICE officers would first pin them to the ground, sometimes face-down. The detainee’s body would then be tightly wrapped in the security blanket and fastened with a series of Velcro belts. Limbs restrained, the deportee could then be carried on to the plane.

In a phone interview, 29-year-old Suhel Ahmed, described witnessing his fellow detainees being forcefully placed in the body bags.

“That’s something that made us really afraid,” said Ahmed. “And me and a lot of fellow detainees started crying and begging [the ICE officers] not to do the same thing to us – we told them, ‘we’ll walk, ‘we’ll walk’ [on to the plane].”

Arrested for not possessing a valid drivers license, held in custody because she couldn’t make bail, “failure to receive adequate medical attention” is the reason of her death. On April 26th she was in a car accident and instead of taking her to the hospital they detained her. Died last Tuesday in police custody in the Walker County Jail in Huntsville,Texas. The same jail that killed #SandraBland. No one knows, no one is talking about this, no cause of death has been given, and even her hometown had no idea she was dead.

Please say her name. Her name was Symone Marshall. She was 22 years old. She had a sister named Honey who called the jail multiple times, asking them to give Symone the medical attention she obviously needed. She had a 3 year old daughter. Please don’t forget her. Symone Nicole Marshall had serious injuries in police custody and they let her die. 

95 years ago today, Japanese-American civil rights activist Yuri Kochiyama was born. During her lifetime Kochiyama advocated for many revolutionary movements including Black Liberation. She was even a close friend and supporter of Malcolm X. Kochiyama got her start in social justice work after she and her family were sent to an internment camp during World War II. It was there that she began noticing the similarities in injustices between the treatment of Black people under Jim Crow and the interment of Japanese-Americans. When Kochiyama and her family moved to Harlem in the 1960s, she became very involved in political activism, inviting other civil rights activists like the Freedom Riders, to gatherings at her home. She later met Malcolm X and joined his Organization of Afro-American Unity. When Malcom X was assassinated in 1965, Kochiyama held him in her arms as he died. In 1977, Kochiyama joined the group of Puerto Ricans who took over the Statue of Liberty in an attempt to draw attention to the Puerto Rican independence struggle. Kochiyama dedicated her life to several causes including the anti-war movement, nuclear disarmament, political prisoners’ rights and reparations to Japanese-Americans interned during World War II. She was even nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2005.
