From the ichthyosaurs to the mosasaurs to the plesiosaurs, the marine reptiles of the Mesozoic were an interesting group of animals. Dolichorhynchops wasn’t the biggest but it sure packed a mean set of chompers. sulc.us/dol #science #naturalhistory #paleoart #sciart #fossils #paleontology #reptile #usa #cretaceous #prehistoric #graphicdesign #scientificillustration #magazine #creature #illustration #illustragram #biology #nature 🖼️ - @thejohnconway https://ift.tt/2Skcsx7

A bipedial crocodile relative called the "Butcher of Carolina," or Carnufex carolinensis, lived 231 million years ago among the lush conifers and cycads of Triassic North Carolina. sulc.us/carnu #science #naturalhistory #paleoart #sciart #fossils #paleontology #reptile #northcarolina #usa #triassic #prehistoric #graphicdesign #crocodile #scientificillustration #magazine #creature #illustration #illustragram #biology #nature 🖼️ - Jorge A. An exquisite fossil found in Germany features a spear-nosed fish and a toothy pterosaur forever locked together. sulc.us/aspi #science #naturalhistory #paleoart #sciart #fossils #paleontology #pterosaur #germany #europe #jurassic #prehistoric #graphicdesign #fish #scientificillustration #magazine #creature #illustration #illustragram #biology #nature 🖼️ - James Cresswell https://ift.tt/2UBW9gu

From shellfish-eating caimans to giants twice the length of a car, Peru was once a hotspot for crocodiles. This includes Purussaurus, one of the largest crocodilians ever known. sulc.us/crocs #science #naturalhistory #paleoart #sciart #fossils #paleontology #crocodile #peru #southamerica #miocene #prehistoric #graphicdesign #reptile #purussaurus #scientificillustration #magazine #creature #illustration #illustragram #biology #nature 🖼️ - @lacerda.julio https://ift.tt/2OwLT5o

Paraceratherium, an enormous rhino relative, is estimated to have been around 25 feet long and weighed as much as five elephants. sulc.us/para #science #naturalhistory #paleoart #sciart #fossils #paleontology #paraceratherium #prehistoric #graphicdesign #mammal #scientificillustration #magazine #creature #illustration #illustragram #biology #nature 🖼️ - Lucas Lima https://ift.tt/2GYrkKS

Giant rodent alert! Josephoartigasia monesi was like a capybara on steroids – it weighed up to a ton and was as big as a buffalo. Its bite force was also as strong as a tiger's. sulc.us/joe #science #naturalhistory #paleoart #sciart #fossils #paleontology #rodent #prehistoric #graphicdesign #capybara #mammal #scientificillustration #magazine #creature #illustration #illustragram #biology #nature 🖼️ - @jamesgurneyart https://ift.tt/2Uoc4yN

Four fossils previously identified as lizards are now known to be dinosaur-age primitive snakes, complete with four little legs. sulc.us/oldsnakes #science #naturalhistory #paleoart #sciart #fossils #paleontology #snake #prehistoric #graphicdesign #snakes #reptiles #herp #herpetology #scientificillustration #magazine #creature #illustration #illustragram #biology #nature 🖼️ - Julius Csotonyi https://ift.tt/2GPKvqs

A fossil from China showing a 160-million-year-old mother with six nearby babies suggests that several extinct reptile groups might have been good parents just like Philydrosaurus. sulc.us/philydro #science #naturalhistory #paleoart #sciart #fossils #paleontology #crocodile #prehistoric #graphicdesign #baby #babies #scientificillustration #magazine #creature #illustration #illustragram #biology #nature 🖼️ - @pnso2009 https://ift.tt/2Ol1F3o

Nanuqsaurus hoglundi, the “polar bear lizard”, is barely two-thirds the size of Tyrannosaurus rex. It is the only tyrannosaur ever found outside temperate regions. sulc.us/nanuq #science #naturalhistory #paleoart #sciart #fossils #paleontology #dinosaur #prehistoric #graphicdesign #tyrannosaur #tyrannosaurus #scientificillustration #magazine #creature #illustration #illustragram #biology #nature 🖼️ - @nathan.e.rogers https://ift.tt/37JMmsu

We may have been quiet recently, but we've been hard at work on some major Earth Archives developments. A new site is in the works. New design. New articles. More new writers. Defenseless baby turtles find food and shelter in the seaweed for the first few years of their lives. And unfortunately, in addition to the small shrimp and other crustaceans the turtles find to eat in the sargassum, they find a wealth of bite-size pieces of plastic to feast on.

Released today, the report predicts that if Earth continues to warm according to current trends—rising 3 degrees Celsius (5.4 degrees Fahrenheit) by 2100—more than two-thirds of North America’s bird species will be vulnerable to extinction due to range loss.
