Disney Universes

Exploring wonderful worlds of Disney through details, concepts, video and rambling.

Not a mufasa origin story

This is blatant revisionism of the Lion King canon. Mufasa was born the eldest son of Ahadi, himself the son of Mohatu, both kings of Pride Rock, and Mufasa directly quotes Ahadi in explaining that the past kings live on in the stars. Zazu states that Simba and Nala's betrothal is part of a tradition going back "generations," further establishing that this kingdom is not new, which it would have had to be if Mufasa founded it. Scar's entire claim to the throne rests on him being the younger brother of the king, a claim which would only hold legitimacy if there had been a previous king to father him.

This brazen defilement of the Lion King lore is, without a doubt, the worst thing Disney has ever done as a company.

WAIT IF MUFASA WAS BORN AN ORPHAN HOW THE FUCK IS SCAR HIS BROTHER

I feel like some of Disney's recent crossover projects are trying to bring the Kingdom Hearts fans over into something Disney has more direct control over and isn't weighted down by Nomura's fanfiction. It's funny to me. Like sorry bestie, but Mirrorverse and Lorcana and Dreamlight Valley are NEVER going to be the next Kingdom Hearts. Making a vaguely high fantasy world with Disney characters at the center isn't exciting or special the way forcing Mickey Mouse into a massive, convoluted Shonen anime JRPG is.

Mirrorverse actually has some solid design work, but the problem is that its all in service to a fucking gacha instead of an actual console adventure.

D23 Expo’s Parks Panel, having no real new announcements of substance for Florida beyond “Figment meet and greet’s coming back” and “Hatbox Ghost in Florida”, ended their panel with essentially an open early Blue Sky pitch as their vague response to Epic Universe.

  • Dinoland USA overhaul putting Moana and Zootopia onto at least Theater of the Wild and Dinorama spaces, if not taking over everything else too.
  • Converting the northern part of Magic Kingdom’s Rivers of America into a “Recent Latin America Movies” land and a Disney Villains land. Too cropped and vague to tell how Tom Sawyer Island and the river route itself will be effected.

It’s all too early to tell if any of this will actually come to pass, much less anytime soon, but I’m very worried about the survival of WDW’s last animatronic dinosaurs.

Disney really just ended their Parks Panel making a series of threats

First look at Walt Disney Animation Studios’ Wish starring Ariana DeBose as Asha.  The animated feature film that explores how the iconic wishing star came to be.

The film will be directed by Oscar-winning Frozen helmer Chris Buck and Raya and the Last Dragon alum Fawn Veerasunthorn. Jennifer Lee, who heads up Disney Animation, is co-scripting, with Peter Del Vecho & Juan Pablo Reyes producing. The film will also feature new songs by Grammy nominee Julia Michaels. Disney’s Wish will hit theaters in November 2023.

Up to bat at D23 Expo!

A FIRST LOOK at Pixar Television Animation’s all-new Original series Win or Lose, with Will Forte as Coach Dan.

From filmmakers Michael Yates, Carrie Hobson, and David Lally.

Win or Lose comes to Disney+, 2023

Models and artwork for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at the D23 Expo.

Mama Odie’s boat treehouse got cut from the budget and the mountain looks kinda naked without it. Also there’s some boasting about 16 new characters in this thing that beyond this otter, totally aren’t whatever America Sings animals they decide to keep from Splash.

The fox for the new Disney Pinocchio live action?

My first honest reaction to seeing this in motion was how it looked more like those shorts on PBS where the dogs would be cooking or something. There's a lot off on this anthropomorphic design that reaches too far into the uncanny valley for furbait. I'm sure we'll see more when the movie does come out, but for the time being, it seems... off

This fucking thing makes jokes about making Pinocchio into an influencer named Chris Pine.
