The Swan And The Orphaned Cygnet

Nine days ago this very ill swan arrived in our care. She stayed with me at home so I could monitor her progress. Everyday she got stronger and stronger. Today while doing an afternoon shift at the shelter, I brought her with me. I felt it was the right time to bring her back. She went out with the other birds to enjoy the sunshine and have a dip in the pool. I returned to check on them all after 30 minutes or so. This is what I found. An orphaned cygnet, rescued weeks ago, snuggled up beside her. Not related and rarely seen. They are both bringing comfort and love to one another. What a beautiful sight. Nature is just amazing.

Where and when to view the Superstition Mountains cougar shadow

  1. If you want to see this phenomenon in person, head to the vicinity of Superstition Blvd and Goldfield Road in Apache Junction for a relatively unobstructed view.
  2. Timing is critical. The cougar only appears during the third week of March and September.
  3. The last 30 minutes before official sunset is prime time for viewing.
