The name's Gage. I'm just some 28 year old bisexual comic artist (who has a real job in retail) living within a small-ish Minnesota town. He/him or she/her. My current project is an all-ages Solarpunk comedy comic named Key to the Future's Fate! I hope it catches your eye!

saw an ant on the bus today, what a horrible fate. moved an unfathomable distance from everything you've ever known because of forces you could never possibly understand. no matter how long you follow the pheromone trail you laid you'll never find your way home.

Did the spider that made a web in my cars mirror survive being barreled down the highway at light speed? Can insects feel fear in a way we understand? If I think too hard about this I start wondering if this is what the other side of a lovecraftian story looks like. An ant lost on the bus.

Don't you dare do this to me

[Image description: tweet by Ursula Wolfe-Rocca @LadyOfSardines on February 23, 2022 at 2:11 PM: “It can be overwhelming to witness/experience/take in all the injustices of the moment; the good news is that *they’re all connected.* So if your little corner of work involves pulling at one of the threads, you’re helping to unravel the whole damn cloth.”]

I saw this last night and it has basically been stuck in my head since. My climate anxiety grows every single day with it seeming like terrible news never stops. There's injustices towards my friends in all different marginalized groups and it feels like "What can you even start doing to help?". This quote gives me courage. No one person needs to solve every problem, but if we all try and focus on different things and each pick a path towards making the world a little bit better, eventually it'll all start to add up. So start picking.

I don't know which of you needs to hear this, but it is your God-given right to not be on social media.

Those of you on tiktok and twitter seem constantly angry and depressed about it. "It is terrible and causes me pain!" you say. Then delete your account! Simply do not have a Tiktok or Twitter or Tumblr or Facebook! It is your right and privilege to say "No, you are not allowed to make me feel like shit!" and delete, remove, and deactivate that motherfucker straight to hell!

I'm not saying you must do this.

I'm just saying that refusing to be on social media is the single biggest "NO" a person is allowed in this world. In one fell swoop, say "I do not consent" to thousands of companies, influencers, celebrities, bigots, and whackos, none of which care in the least about your successes or your suffering.

And they can't do SHIT about it!

Remember: social media executives do not want you to have a healthy relationship with social media.

They specifically intend that your relationship with social media is unhealthy. Their business depends on making sure people can't set boundaries.

Whatever destructive and detrimental thing keeps you trapped, whether it's your righteous anger, your self-harming urges, your anxiety, or your boredom, they want it to never let go of you.

So, if it doesn't make you happier and more fulfilled, if it isn't ACTIVELY worthwhile and enriching your life...

...just say NO THANKS! And LEAVE!!!!

The anxiety of missing out will pass

The fear of being out of the loop will pass

You WILL be happier and more comfortable if you return to the old fashioned way of keeping up with events: hearing them secondhand through a friend.

And I’m serious. By hearing stuff secondhand, you’re already filtering your information to what your friends think is the most interesting or important thing to share, instead of being forced to wade through all of the excess noise yourself.

You’re gonna be really bored and twitchy for like a week or so after quitting. This is normal. Social media is designed to be addictive, and you can be addicted to making yourself feel bad. This will pass. You will find something else of interest so that you don’t feel the urge to look at stuff again.

And it's okay to come back months later too with a more critical outlook on social media, so long as you're being aware of yourself and your tendency towards social media addiction.

I left tumblr for nearly a year and came back a fuckton more critical of the website as a whole. I can enjoy it now while still being critical of the all-or-nothing opinions the site is full of, which has made me far less susceptible to the guilt tripping posts that are always on my dash. I'm a lot happier as a person now that I'm making my own opinions separately from those I see online

Social media shouldn't be your primary source of experiencing the world, and if it is you need to be aware that your experience is being filtered through the opinions of thousands before it reaches you

as a player you should really internalize the intent/task sentence structure. “i wanna open this door by prying it open with a crowbar,” “i wanna set fire to the hay bale with my firebolt,” “i wanna haggle this price by commenting on some minor scratches.”

very often i see players only stating one of these. either “i wanna open the door” or “i cast firebolt on the hay bale.”

what the intent/task structure does is properly communicate to your GM what a success/failure state looks like, and what kind of challenge they propose. sometimes players have a very specific outcome in mind, but when they just state the task, even a successful attempt will be disappointing because the GM does not know what you want to achieve. and vice versa, just stating your intent puts weight on the GM to not only come up with the consequences to the actions, but what even causes them to begin with.

If you went by what you see on TV you’d think the nation was gripped in a collective outpouring of grief and.. it isn’t! No spontaneous flower tributes, no black armbands. People are just getting on with their lives. The only public displays are by brands and businesses.

Look at the number of flowers in town today under the queen statue. They’ve optimistically set the barriers far back anticipating thousands. There’s about 15. There was no one there paying their respects either. Literally no one. The biggest queue was at a burger van nearby.
