Armand followed the tall man that seemed to have made himself at home right away. He was intrigued and took the excuse of answering Elrohir’s easy questions to observe him more thoroughly. He smelled like a forest, any of his small graceful movements sending a light scent that made his eternally churning soul at peace ‘’You are correct. The bathroom is an en suite so you are the only one having access to it’’ For some reason Armand wanted to get a raise out of the gentle male ‘’Your bedroom is not contiguous to mine so you don’t have to worry if you invite lovers over. I only ask that you keep things at a reasonable level. There is a washing machine in the basement. You can do your own washing or you can put everything in the red hamper and the maid will do it for you on Tuesdays’’

Armand opened the door to Elrohir’s room. It was a spacious room furnished with dark brown wood furniture and emerald green curtains and bedding. There was a massive desk pushed beneath a window overlooking an overgrown garden. ‘’There is plenty of room in the house. Perhaps you could use the painting room’’ he gave the man a rueful smile ‘’I haven’t painted in ages so the easels are all along the walls. Just don’t look under the white blankets covering them please’’ The vampire noticed a notebook, probably fallen a long time ago beneath the desk. He bent to retrieve it, running his fingers fondly over the cover with a sad smile. He knew without opening it that this was Daniel’s

Elrohir’s question startled him out of his reverie and he looked at the male sharply. Had he guessed Armand’s nature? No, surely not or he would be running right now ‘’Ah. It’s very brave of you to approach this question dead on. I would not have put the ad had I not thought I would be safe with someone around. You seem like an honorable man. It would be unbearably rude of me to bring you harm when you are so delightful’’ Armand gave the man his most angelic smile, hiding his fangs of course ‘’As for secrets, well aren’t these only fun when they are found out?’’

Elrohir offered a strange smile though he did not bother to touch on the subject of his lovers, or lack there of, as it was not something the other needed to be worried about.  “It is likely I will not do too much entertaining, though I do have siblings and family.  I assure you I will not infringe too much on you should I have someone over.”

He moved around the room and found there was little that was not to his liking.  This place offered warmth and safety in a world he was still coming to know.  He stood at the window for a long moment, silver eyes on the garden below.  It had an unkempt look to it that Elrohir found he both enjoyed and longed to tame.

The silver gaze came around to look to the smaller redhead and he nodded once.  “There is certainly some truth to that.  Well then, if you are agreeable to having me around, I believe I would like to move in here.”  He smiled a bit, “What are you asking as your monthly rate?  I need to make sure it is a price I can actually afford, and I doubt you will let me live here simply for the sake of company in such a large and quiet household.”

Armand was curious. So there were more beings like Elrohir. And if the male was being so nonchalant about talking abut them, it meant he was not worried about them being put in danger by Armand knowing about them. Which meant the male was capable of caring himself and was dangerous in some capacity. The redhead looked at the guileless air of his visitor. Or maybe Elrohir was just oblivious. “I would be delighted to meet your family if they are as lovely as you are” Armand smiled “But I don’t mind it at all if you entertain artists. I quite like being in the company of creative minds”

Armand watched Elrohir’s straight back as he walked around the room. Such grace. He managed to look perfectly straight-backed and yet fluid in his movements. The vampire glanced at what looked like a pointed ear, well hidden under thick waves of hair. This was interesting. Armand shook himself when Elrohir talked to him “I am very agreeable to having you in my house”

The vampire had a sudden idea to make the being stay longer “I would like some stability, I’m sure you understand, and I would like whoever who moves in to commit to staying at least 6 months. It can be longer if we get along of course. The monthly rate is 1100$, including all amenities. As you are an artist, I might be willing to lower the rate for some of your art, if that is something you would be amenable to”

Elrohir slipped into the house, his feet nearly silent on the usually creaky old wood floor. Either he was used to threading silently or he was a lot lighter than he looked. Armand looked at the man’s back as he inspected the house. He was all lean strength, with hard muscles hidden under the fine shirt Elrohir was wearing. He was definitely athletic, and in this day and age Armand should assume it was due to sport, but something in the way the tall male moved spoke of a grace acquired in battle. One more mystery.

‘’The house has many wings and is partly hidden under the trees so it does look smaller from the street’’ Armand ran his fingers lightly on a dark wood table, still remembering the dust that had covered it hours before. ‘’I live here alone. There are workers that take care of the yard but they don’t come inside the house’’ He met Elrohir’s eyes ‘’Hopefully if you like the place, I won’t anymore’’ The redhead wasn’t about to tell the grey-eyed stranger that no one mortal had set foot inside in over a decade

‘’We will share cleaning duties. I mostly eat out. I’m also very peculiar about food so there is no need to share food with me’’ He smiled, the lie coming easily to him ‘’Come, I will show you to your rooms. I live on the top floor but all the first floor is shared space. Feel free to ask questions. I am fairly private but we should know more about one another if we are to live together’’

Armand went from the front room to the den, sliding silently through the darkened house. Everything was too quiet. The gloom turned the laughing faces in the paintings into a mockery of his loneliness. He had to sell the house. Putting a hand on the banister, he ascended slowly toward his room. His feet did not make enough noise to hide that there was music playing in the house down the street. Two people arguing about dinner then making up with a kiss. Life.

Selling the house would mean fleeing. It would mean giving up on his love ever returning to him. At the top of the stairs, Armand had to pause. The telltale stabbing pain was lesser than he expected. Maybe he was moving on. No, he wouldn’t sell the house, but he needed it to contain life again. He would get a flatmate. Some night owl living in the margins of society, brimming with understanding about modern life.

Armand sat down in front of his computer. He would advertise a room on the ground floor. Expensive enough not to get a student looking to party but not too much he’d get a rich bachelor that worked 80 hours a week. Not a writer. It was too close to Daniel. Maybe an artist? Armand finished the posting and found himself looking forward to something for the first time in a long time. Now to wait for the applicants.

Elrohir sat in the local Starbucks sipping at a warm, sweet coffee as he surfed the net looking at ads for apartments.  He had been enjoying his adventure among the mortals of the modern age of Arda, yet it seemed that the people here frowned at the homeless.  Spit on them at times.

He paused, noticing the ad about renting a room in a house.  The sharing of utilities and such.  Now that might be a fine idea for one like himself.  It would put a roof over his head, and allow him to make a friend of sorts among the people here.  With a smile he typed out an email response to the ad. Greetings,  I am looking for a place to call home, new to the city, and happen to enjoy doing the majority of my work during the evenings.  I would be very happy if we could perhaps meet tomorrow and I could see the room you are offering, and we could decide if sharing living quarters might be agreeable to us both.  Looking forward to hearing from you, Elrohir.

Armand looked at the smiling picture had been attached to the email, now printed on glossy paper. The man had absolutely no previous references of landlords or workplaces, and Armand would have overlooked his application immediately had it not been for that picture. The man was gorgeous, in a way that made you stop and stare. There was also something otherworldly about him. His bone structure was too fine, his eyes just a little bit too bright, as if they shone from the inside. To any human Elrohir would look like a foreign model but to him, he looked like a marvelous mystery. He wasn’t a vampire, but he was definitely at least in part inhuman.

Armand had replied quickly to the email and invited the man over at 10pm. The vampire had been busy since cleaning up the dust that had accumulated during his mournful solitude. Now the house still looked slightly sinister because of the wealth of old art and furniture, but at least it didn’t look haunted anymore. It was nearly time and Armand waited in the living room while listening to some chamber music. When he heard the doorbell ring, he slid the picture between the pages of a nearby book and opened the door with a smile. ‘’Welcome to my home Elrohir. Please come in’’

Between a rock and a hard place (Open RP)

Louis picked up the phone, his all too thin fingers trembling as he dialed the only number that came to mind in that moment. He could hear his heart beating in his throat, hoping the others wouldn’t be back soon, that they would not catch him with the stolen phone in his possession. It rang and rang before finally he heard it click on the other end.

“Please, it’s me, Louis. I–I’m in a bad way. I know we haven’t spoken in a long time, but…” He closed his eyes, licking his cracked lips, “I really need your help.”

The cellphone thrilled on the table and Armand looked at the screen disinterestedly. Those that had that number were few and he didn’t particularly care to talk to any of them this night. ‘Unknown caller’. Just great. Benji had probably lost his phone. Again. Armand picked up, about to exchange some very unkind words with his fledgling, but was stunned into silence by the voice on the other end. He let the silence lengthen, unsure about what to say. There was a rasp in Louis’ voice that Armand did not like at all. 

The redhead shook himself and went in an empty room of the penthouse, closing the door to muffle the sounds of the piano. Armand was certainly not about to let himself be drawn in again by Louis’ pain. He heard the high pitch of the phone glass under stress, just at the edge of his hearing, and he forced his hand to loosen “Lestat is not picking up his phone?” He let his eyes wander on the skyline of twinkling lights, his resolve to be unkind crumbling pathetically fast. The vampire sighed and leaned his forehead on the cold glass “Just tell me what you need Louis”

Louis heard the annoyance in his voice, the frustration with him. He didn’t blame him. If there had been anyone else he could have called, he would have.

“He changed his number,” he whispered. “Look, Im sorry,” he whispered, “I don’t have much time, and not much battery on this stolen cell phone.” He swallowed. “I’m being held against my will, ‘Mand. If I don’t get out of here soon, I’m going to die.”

Louis had a talent to find himself in untenable situations but being captured was a horror that echoed with Armand dark history. He matched Louis’ whisper in case the jailers were vampires “Vampires or mortals? Where are they keeping you? How long do I have to get to you?” So many other questions wanted to rush out of his mouth but he had to be practical.

He pushed through the web of interconnected lives with the dark gift to try to find Louis’ telltale presence. He wished, not for the first time, that he was more powerful. Louis was out of time he had said, and there was no time to go find an elder. If Armand was honest, he wanted to be the one to rescue Louis and be his solace as he recovered.

He had blocked his awareness of Louis’ presence for so long that the connection was a bloodless limb sluggish to respond. Armand finally found the dim hum of Louis’ presence on the west coast, so faint Armand became dizzy with fear for his friend “I’m glad you called ma beauté. You won’t be in this dreadful place for much longer now, I promise”

*starts fog machine with his foot. The fire spitter spits a fireball and promptly catches the nearest plant on fire. Armand looks sheepish*

“Maybe I should have planned this better instead of just taking things I had lying around my apartment”

Aurora Wings Unfold

Armand laughed, an unrestricted and happy sound. It was a wonder how Bianca could peel away so many years off him, an artist restoring a painting by uncovering the true work of art behind layers and layers of grime. “Your wish is my command my lady” He swung her body to grab her legs and princess carried the blonde out of the room “They will watch with disbelief at first, and disbelief will turn to awe once they see you pilot” He thought of something and grinned widely “I wonder if we can make a jaeger skip”

Armand managed to slide his card over the reader and the door to the dock opened with a whoosh of chilled compressed air. He walked on the dark platform, the lights coming on in shifts to reveal the scuffed metal of the jaeger. Even after having seen many hours of combat, the blue and gold paint-job was still clearly visible “There it is darling. It might need a caring touch to be worthy of you but we’ll get it in shape in no time”

“I like that. Crazy punk.”

“Well you might be the last person on earth that still wears safety pins through your nipples sometimes, so yes, crazy AND a punk”

The redhead played idly with the edge of his thumbnail, letting his fringe hide his eyes from his maker. He continued softly “I know you love him and I can only hope you will be good to him, as he will be to you. What do I have left other than well wishes at this point? I feel like an old friend left at quay, waving as the ship departs with my two loves. It’s too late to jump on board, and too early to turn away to cry so I have to keep smiling until it’s over” Armand wiped away his eye, angry that he could not remain impassible anymore “I’ll wave and smile as you take your vows to one another and I’ll keep smiling as you leave the building to build your new life. Is that what you want Marius?”
