Let the Tumble Begin!

Tumblr is an endless rabbit hole of possibilities. Let's see what we find...

Wendell & Wild | Official Teaser

Wendell & Wild will stream on Netflix on October 28, 2022.

Teaser Poster

From the delightfully wicked minds of Henry Selick (director of The Nightmare Before Christmas and Coraline) and Jordan Peele (Nope, Us, Get Out) comes the story of Kat (Lyric Ross), a troubled teen haunted by her past, who must confront her personal demons, Wendell & Wild (played by Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele) to start a new life in her old hometown

calling a stranger online bestie is the modern equivalent of going up to a stranger in an old tavern and calling them “my friend”

hail, bestie! what news of the northern realms hath you to deliver!

absolute vibes my esteemed friend!

Absolutely Devastated to discover that attempting to Remove The Textures will cause new, much more Textured Textures To Appear

Surely if I remove this new Texture, however, it will be gone forever.

By Talos, this can’t be happening.

and another thing: no child should ever be made fun of for things they love especially by their parents

it should go without saying but apparently it needs to be said over and over and over again because every time i hear my mom tease my sister for playing wolfquest, every time i hear a teacher tease a kid for doodling, every time i hear a babysitter laugh at a kid explaining the plot of a show they like, it drives a fuckin stake through my heart because i was that kid once.

i was made fun of enough times by adults, by peers, for liking something and wanting to share it that i just. didn’t. anymore.

dont fucking tease kids for liking things. even if you think its cringe. ESPECIALLY. if you think its cringe. because the way you speak and act towards them when they are sharing themselves with you STICKS and they will think of it years down the line.

BE NICE TO KIDS. BE NICE TO KIDS. LISTEN WHEN THEY SPEAK TO YOU. BE. FUCKING. NICE. TO. KIDS.

I was a substitute teacher for a little while between grad schools, and one day I had a middle school math class for the morning. The work they were assigned wasn’t *especially* hard, and one little girl knocked it out in 20 minutes. She started drawing what was very obviously Sans Undertale, and when I noticed I wanted to be supportive, and had the following exchange:

“What’s that you’re drawing?”

*panicking* “It’s nothing, I’m sorry, I’ll put it away.”

“No it’s okay, I was just curious about it.”

“It’s nothing. I don’t want to get in trouble.”

“You’re not in trouble, I just thought it looked like a character from a video game I like.”

Her face *lit up* the second I gave her the smallest bit of approval. She started asking me if I’d heard of various AUs for Undertale, and I tried to follow along as she explained her favorites. I obviously had to keep an eye on the rest of the class, answering questions and helping with algebra, but each time I passed her desk she had more things to tell me.

Anyway, it was very cute, but also a little sad how obviously starved she was for someone kind to talk about her stories with. Kids deserve to have someone in their corner, and it takes no effort at all to smile and listen if they have something they want to share. Preserve the earnestness you want to see in the world.

Making fun of children for being “cringe”, especially when you’re an adult is cringey in of itself. Like, how insecure and pathetic do you have to be to shit on kids for *gasp* liking things kids like? Cringe Culture and bullying people for their interests is fucking stupid and nearly all the people I knew who take part in that type of behaviour are the most insufferable and nasty mfs I’ve ever met.

I don't give a shit how good the reviews are I will never read something w a cover like this

I couldn't stop thinking about how stupid this cover is and I think that it speaks volumes that I was able to recreate it almost perfectly in Canva with free graphics in under 15 minutes

Wild that folks keep saying beekeepers abuse bees as if bees are not both venomous flying animals and fully unionized

Avatar

Hubris to think you COULD abuse bees

Avatar

I think that if you see a balrog in an unlocked kitty kennel then you can assume that it wants to be there

Avatar

It’s not that wild. And it’s certainly not hubris. Exploitation is abuse, and bees are worse than exploited.

Avatar

...no.

The word you are looking for here is symbiotic. Bees and beekeepers have a symbiotic relationship.

If bees are not well-treated, they leave. You cannot abuse a hive and have it remain functional. You cannot abuse a hive, period. The only way to do so would be to kill the whole hive by not permitting any of them to fly.

It is functionally impossible for beekeepers to abuse a hive of bees.

If bees don't like their living conditions, they leave.

They are a fully unionized insect.

Stop your weak vegan bullshit, it's exhausting. Not every relationship between humans and other species is abusive or even has the capability to be abusive.

For fuck's sake, why are you even following our reblogging from me?

I once had a vegan academic, at AN ACADEMIC CONFERENCE, say to the audience of her talk that beekeepers clip the wings of all their bees so they can't fly away. Allllll of them. She was not thrilled when I busted out laughing. I pointed out that she'd clearly taken a tidbit of information (some beekeepers DO clip the wings of the queen and only the queen, not always for flight limitation reasons) and got it twisted, bc how the hell would bees collect nectar and pollen if they can't fly?? She then doubled down and said they have to WALK. TO. THE. FLOWERS.

See, ok, I want to engage this real quick. Your average beehive is between 20,000 and 80,000 bees. Probably less for smaller hives and more for bigger hives. So lets really lowball it. Lets say this hive has 10,000 bees. Do you understand how unproductive it would be to clip the wings of 10,000 bees? Not only to sort through 10,000 bees and figure out which ones are clipped and which ones aren't, but to actually clip the wings of 10,000 bees? Let alone the fact that you get halfway through and all the bees decide you're a threat and start leaving. Let alone the queen deciding she doesn't like you for harming all of her workers and also walks off. You literally cannot abuse a beehive. They don't have the brains to reason out the whole "Oh but its a warm shelter and I'm safe from predators so I guess I should stay,,," no, if they feel unhappy they will either Die About It or Leave. They will not take abuse because they don't get Stockholm syndrome, they don't have the brains to argue for staying, they're either happy and fed, or upset and starving. And if its the latter they will just fucking Leave or Die About It. Bees allow humans to harvest honey because they overproduce, and humans allow bees to remain nearby without breaking out the insecticide. Thats a symbiotic relationship.

My dad told me a Queen Elizabeth x 9/11 combo joke but idk if it works in English

Avatar

It goes something like this

Q: Why can’t Americans play chess against the British anymore?

A: Because the British are missing the queen and the Americans are missing two towers (rooks).

Avatar

To whoever unfollowed me for this: I didn’t even come up with the joke myself, you should unfollow my dad instead.

Bee and Puppycat is the perfect show bc it’s a coming of age story in which almost all of the characters are over 25 with the exception of one 7 year old whose character arc is about being a child and makes the point to say he should not have to take care of himself or deal with these stressful situations, the adults should

Avatar

The purpose of child hero stories is not “this universe is abusive toward children and no one has child age labor laws” it is that they are stories written for children so that they can see themselves overcoming challenges and defeating monsters.

Avatar

You’re right and you should say it

stories like these have probably helped countless kids out there

Since it is so likely that (children) will meet cruel enemies, let them at least have heard of brave knights and heroic courage. Otherwise you are making their destiny not brighter but darker.

C.S. Lewis

“Fairy tales, then, are not responsible for producing in children fear, or any of the shapes of fear; fairy tales do not give the child the idea of the evil or the ugly; that is in the child already, because it is in the world already. Fairy tales do not give the child his first idea of bogey. What fairy tales give the child is his first clear idea of the possible defeat of bogey. The baby has known the dragon intimately ever since he had an imagination. What the fairy tale provides for him is a St. George to kill the dragon.”

G.K. Chesterton

I experienced homelessness as a child and spent a lot of time in public libraries with my family, because it was one of the few public indoor spaces that didn’t cost any money and was good for us. I read these types of stories constantly.

Because of these child hero stories, I never lost hope when I was young. I eventually became the first doctor in my family and now spend my career providing free healthcare to disadvantaged people like me.

Writers never doubt that your work is vital and that it saves lives. Authors told me that I could slay dragons and I never questioned it.

This, this, this this, this is so important

There was a blog I used to follow (and recently blocked because I was fed up with them) where they would frequently make points that went like “well this trope would be problematic in real life so this work of fiction in a fictional not realistic world should either depict the trope as problematic or do away with it altogether”

Particularly with stories involving child protagonists

Child heroes are, first and foremost, fighting a battle against malice, indifference and greed. They defeat all of them through compassion, caring, courage, trust and selflessness. These enemies might appear in the story as an evil wizard, a gluttonous cat, a terrible dragon or an ancient god, it doesn’t matter. The message is, no matter what form they take, they can all be defeated through compassion, caring, courage, trust and selflessness. If you erase the child hero, you tell our children, “you need to be big, you need to be strong, so you can punch that thing in the face, there is no other way to deal with stuff.”

And that would be our undoing.

And even for adults, which the challenges faced may not be dragons, sometimes the inner child needs to be fed and reminded that evil can be defeated through compassion, selflessness, etc.

Which some people seriously need a reminder of.

(I.e., all of the above.)

god i just love it when a story treats a completely platonic relationship with the same level of narrative importance as if it were a romantic relationship

LIKE YES!!! YES!!! YES!!! Platonic bonds are just as if not even more important than romantic bonds!!! LIKE YES A FRIENDSHIP CAN BE LOVE STORY AND THAT CAN NOT BE CONTRADICTORY STATEMENT TO SAY!!!
