Rant I did recently regarding "puriteen" discourse that could also apply to shipping discourse, or really any post involving "problematic" media because holy HELL is this a pattern I hate.

And you know what? Tumblr folks have less of an excuse for being vague, because you DO have more room to provide context. Just SAY WHAT YOU MEAN.

The answer is they always mean “any acknowledgement that sex exists unless it’s in media I personally like”.

Okay, hold on, is this something you've actually seen said? I don't want to jump to conclusions, in fact, jumping to conclusions is the reason WHY I made this post.

They don’t say it, but it’s definitely the way they act. Lots of antis throw fits if a fanficcer hints at anything unseemly but themselves enjoy media like Hetalia and Homestuck (which are both full of pedophile and Holocaust jokes). See @just-antithings​ for examples and I’m sure they can point you to more.

I'm...not interested in that blog, thanks. I'm not an anti or pro or whatever and I don't want to fully align myself with either side, I just prefer to know the context before I judge any piece of media, and wish people would just explain what they mean, and I don't know why they simply won't.

this ad contains a US phone number. i’ve volunteered with/for survivors of human trafficking in the US for over five years and underwent training to do so. only a very small percentage of human trafficking occurs as a result of kidnappings in the US. thinking every scam number is a front for traffickers is a byproduct of moral panic and does not actually help address the issue.

the vast majority of trafficked youth are young people who are either manipulated by someone they know (family members are involved in at least HALF of all child trafficking cases) or turn to labor trafficking or underage sex work due to vulnerability and desperation. children who have runaway, been thrown out of their homes, are in the juvenile justice system, are in foster care, and/or are migrants are among the most vulnerable to being trafficked. LGBT+ youth have a notably high vulnerability.

human trafficking very rarely looks like a white van, or an agency pretending to hire you for after school work before spiriting you away to be trafficked. successful human traffickers would not advertise this way.

it looks like corporations and farms that violate workers’ rights, abusive family members or guardians, older partners, and online predators who ingratiate themselves into children’s lives and become trusted friends.

this poster is almost definitely for an MLM or some similar scam.

Also, it may not be a *super sucessful* method for traffickers, but dont be fooled, they do have this up like the above but in different designs/posters. Also, traffickers dont want just 1 kind of person, thats why they're traffickers. They are looking for anyone vulnerable enough. They could be trafficking you for sex, for making children to sell, for luring other people away, for black market selling of your organs, like you never know the intentions of people but there are many bad intentions of traffickers/kidnappers. Please just fact check anything before jumping on it. Hell even report it to the police and ask them to verify if its real if you have to.

I will say, some volunteer programs with low budgets sometimes post flyers but they'll never look like that. They will always have the name of the company on them and a name that you can mention to call. ALSO, BIG RED FLAG IF YOU CANT LEAVE A MESSAGE ON THAT NUMBER.
