Beautiful yet sometimes frightening works of art by soldiers. Stuff like this always makes me wonder how many great artists, and just generally amazing people, we have lost due to war over the decades. A lot more here. Sadly, I can't find the original artists on this site to credit them...
Soviet propaganda, because, well I'm a history major/ nerd. Oh, and propaganda is about the only thing the USSR did right. More here.
Thank you everyone who followed me the last few days. Quite frankly I'm amazed by the number. As such I've decided to start posting stuff again, at least a few weird, interesting, and/or beautiful stuff I find on the interwebs a day.Thank you!
I can't in good faith consider myself a member of the human species anymore... I want to, but I just don't see much of myself in anyone else. What does that leave me with, nothing? So it goes, it's not much different than at any other time in my life. I don't have much to apologize for, I can't name more than a few people I've wronged but I can name scores I've helped, but they have gone on to much more happiness and success. I live simply because I know not what else to do, almost nonstop suffering for the fading dream of a life I can scarcely any longer envision. I can't stop trying, and I won't until I'm dead, but now more than ever I fear for the future more than ever before. Here's hoping for a better tomorrow, I need it...
To All Conservative Christian White People
I can't take it. The grotesque level of stupidity surrounding the Treyvon Martin tragedy is insane. The media is not trying to start a race war. The NAACP is not a cause of racism. And last but not least, George Zimmerman IS NOT, nor will ever be a victim. Life is not a casual thing that can be thrown away because you're scared or threatened. His paranoia brought him into a fight with a unarmed young man, his cowardice resulted in him killing said man. That is all, it's not OK. Our country can never move forward if we look at our fellow men with suspicion carrying a loaded handgun behind our back.
Throughout the universe over 150 million stars were born and a similar number died while I was at work today. Some, if not most of the infant stars' light will never reach our solar system before the sun itself dies. Why can we know so much, but experience so little? Perhaps that's the curse of intelligent life, we are prisoners, forced to observe, but never to truly grasp infinity...
I may be a tad sleep deprived having worked 16 hours today and perhaps as a result I've been thinking too much... Good night.
Rest in peace Ray Manzarek. I would not have had nearly as much fun in high school if it weren't for you and the rest of the Doors. 1939-2013.
WTF Cleveland... my beautiful city of birth... wtf...
Sometimes I wish all of humanity would revert to unicellular states and evolve again from the beginning. I can't imagine we'd be any worse off. When Cleveland shows up when you log onto AlJazeera English you should always be concerned. This story just made me lose even more faith in mankind. I cannot, for the life of me figure this one out, and I say that a fair amount when it comes to understanding this species I am supposedly a representative off.
Happy May Day! I'm celebrating by reposting this good old communist party illustration.
This is about all I have for tonight. I'm terrified that I will die wondering what would have happened had I made any dozen or so alternate decisions... So it goes I suppose...
Just found out a couple hours ago I've got a new job at Whole Foods. It's not exactly a dream job but I can't wait for fresh start with new people and a shorter commute. Plus 20% off is nice.
Randomly came across this a few minutes ago, I've always loved macro photography and in this case these beautiful photo's capture ethereal snowflakes in the brief moments before they melt, a fleeting wonder of nature we'd never see in such resolution if we weren't lucky enough to be born in the modern era. Photos by Andrew Osokin, check out more of his works here.
Thank you people who have continued to follow me despite having posted nothing as of late. As a reward I'm reposting this visual representation of the scientific "fact" that god loved dinosaurs and as such he let them die suddenly and horribly so that the next creatures he loved with equal ardor could then queue up for their inevitable, though loving of course, demise.
