Your opinion is valid. I enjoy it so I can't quite agree with you, however, your opinion is just as valid as anyone's. It also doesn't help that they're using different images from different seasons as their argument. The art style has developed immensely since the first season (as a lot of cartoons do), but to use older art vs newer art doesn't make for a decent argument.
You make an excellent point, actually! Just like when you compare Season 1 Family Guy to Season 15 (or whatever it’s on now), there’s a huge difference! That’s what happens when your show is successful and gains funding, and that’s good change! Thank you for pointing that out.

The Steven Universe fandom is SCARY! I wrote a very long blog post about how unnerving it was that people were supporting an obvious abuser in a relationship. I pointed out the abuse tactics Jasper used towards Lapis and I urged people not to fall for this behavior in real life and not to romanticize it. I had to turn off anon because the amount of hate and lashing out and anger I got was beyond unreal for a cartoon character. Go figure the second I turned off anon the hate stopped.
I moved to LA, started a new job in a big studio in Burbank, am currently still looking for a new place to live because I’m in an illegal housing situation, have already had food poisoning on my first day of work, had my car towed (and paid almost $300 for it), and just got a parking ticket ($73) this morning. I’ve been up here for less than two weeks.
I don’t mean to come off rude or bitter, but I’ve been through a lot that I’m not used to and I’m keeping it together by escaping at work. I’m actually on studio property today just to get out of the house I’m in right now because I’m close to tears just thinking about it right now. I don’t want to hurt anyone and I don’t want anyone coming after me, you know?
I’m stressed out. I’m scared. I’m in LA. Yes, I’m just a young adult and I’ve got a lot to learn, so please bear with me. I hope you have a good day, little friend, and keep making it to tomorrow. If you can do it, so will I.

There is a HUGE DIFFERENCE between one single person’s art style changing over time as part of their personal growth and development as opposed to a PROFESSIONAL STUDIO COMPOSED OF HUNDREDS OF COLLABORATIVE ARTISTS working to maintain consistency on the style chosen for the show in its final design.

Yes it is. Peridot is a French stone where the “T” is silent and the ending sounds like “doe” like the female deer. The only way to accept the SU pronunciation is the clarify that the STONE is pronounced “peri-DOH” and the CHARACTER is pronounced “peri-DOT.”

idk why all these anons are coming after you. su still has shit animation even if the specific thing you pointed out wasn't a problem. the show still has 0 concept of character models/heights or perspective, and half the cast is neon colored now. so like, just because what you pointed out was discounted doesnt mean the shows animation is good
Thank you! And like I said before, just because I don’t like how the studio handles the quality of the animation, it won’t stop me from fawning over this series. Some of the best advice I’ve ever heard (and I wish I could remember where it originated) was that, “Good animation will never save you from having a weak story. Develop a strong story first, and the animation will improve in time to follow your success.”
My favorite examples for these words put into action are:
(1) Monster House -- The animation is C+ at best, but the story and the character development is solid gold. It’s easy to become invested in the characters, their motives and growth are completely believable, and their diversity (despite being an all-white cast, I know) is great. They have solid leading characters, no stereotyped heroes, and a creative backstory for the villains. I still cry during the ending when Mr. Nebercracker says, “For forty-five years...we’ve been stuck like this. Forty-five years...and now we’re free!”
(2) SpongeBob Squarepants: Sponge Out of Water -- Having grown up practically memorizing the first film and bonding over it with my father, seeing this sequel was the worst decision we’ve collectively made. The animation was stellar and (in some parts) beyond amazing, but the story was weak. The characters were weak. The dialogue and the timing was horribly weak. Literally everything about this film was awful with the exception of the animation. You can tell that the crew had no intention of making a serious film that could be anywhere near as good as the first one. It’s like they just gave up and were told, “Who cares? It could be garbage and it’ll still make billions!” which it did, much to my chagrin.
Tl;dr -- My point is, I stick by the belief that if you have a strong story with a diverse, well-developed cast, animation will improve over time with more support from your fanbase. If it’s not visually stellar just yet, that’s okay! SpongeBob didn’t look as good in 1999 as it did in 2016, but it got there because the first few seasons were tightly written. So, in relation to SU, there’s some work to be done for the animation, but the story remains strong and I’m constantly being brought to tears because of the emotional investments I’ve made into the characters. That is why I love this show.
