Can you review the zigzagoon line? Both regular and Galarian

Zigzagoon is one of the most under-appreciated cute Pokemon out there. Look at it! It's little zig-zag mouth is adorable, and it has such a sweet face. The best way I've heard it described is that it looks like a homemade plushie, and frankly I would die for them.

And visually, I like it a lot. The black band is appropriately raccoon-esq and draws attention to the eyes, while the spikey fur conveys the zig-zag theme quite well. The alternating colors also add contrast. It's pretty perfect in my book.

Actually, I do have one nitpick: the eyes could've stood to be a different color from the body to make them pop more; maybe use the same blue as Linoone. That's it though.

Image

Unfortunately, Linoone isn't quite as good as Zigzagoon. It makes perfect sense conceptually; it goes from a zig-zag theme to a straight line theme, and the way it only runs in straight lines makes sense when you consider it's more badger-like, and thus more of an active predator.

It's just that visually, it looses the sheer cuteness of Zigzagoon without bringing much else to the table; the expression doesn't really convey much of a personality.

I also feel like the markings are a downgrade. The various curves to the body make the straight line idea much less obvious than it should be, and the markings just being flat instead of doing something fun like Zigzagoon's fur feels underwhelming. Like, the body and the tail could've easily been completely straight and rigid, to really emphasize the theme.

Some of the placements are weird too; like the stripe on the head seems like it should go all the way to the tail, but it just stops. Same with the stripe over the eye, which seems like it should just connect to the one on the tail but then doesn't.

It's by no means terrible, of course; but it is pretty bland at the end of the day. Also, what on earth is going on with its legs in this art?

Image

G. Zigzagoon handles things in an interesting way. With most regionals, the theme is either kept as-is and something else is changed, or the theme is altered to something similar. Here, the theme is mostly ignored (still present, just not as obvious, especially once it evolves) in favor of just doing something based off of the visuals, and honestly, it works pretty well.

What I really like here are the colors. The original colors worked well for normal-types, but the black and white adds some much appreciated contrast and really makes the designs pop, especially with the red added in. Also, the star shape is a nice nod to the direction the line is going, and is well integrated with the original's face mask.

However, with that said, I don't like G. Zigzagoon quite as much as the original, just because it's less cute and feels like it's trying to achieve the KISS vibe in the face without really succeeding. That's just personal preference, however; this is a good regional and I don't really have any complaints.

Also, I like that this version is the original. Just kind of neat worldbuilding that the first Pokemon we see aren't necessarily the original variants.

Image

On the flip side, I do prefer G. Linoone over the original design. The big thing, outside of the colors once again being higher contrast, is the expression; Linoone's really rocking the metal look, and it adds some much needed personality.

Also, while the markings aren't completely improved (which I can't blame on this version, as it wouldn't look like Linoone if you changed it too much), they are better. The black legs make the stripes feel more patterned (instead of just having three and calling it a day). I also particularly love how the star added to the eye creates a shooting star when combined with the original eye stripe. That's the good stuff, right there.

Image

On a scale of Gene Simmons to Uri Geller, how well do you handle a Pokemon inspired by you

Linoone also evolves in this region, which kind of makes sense as Linoone never really felt all that powerful in and of itself.

I really like Obstagoon's head in particular. The striking black-and-white patterning is one of the best parts of this regional line, as it's both visually interesting and unique for Pokemon. It looks especially good here, with the stripe running from the eye down the neck being paralleled by the back mane. The way it ends exactly at the nose and the way it has kind of star shape makes for a nice way to reference the pre-evos while doing something unique with the markings (though I'm not sure the white ear tips were needed).

However, while the rest of the body isn't bad, it does feel a bit disconnected. If you just look at the head, it looks pretty animalistic, while the body is much more humanoid. Even stuff like the head having detailed markings while the body is much more simple adds to this (I get that it's referencing the KISS makeup, but I'm just speaking visually). I think the legs could've been shorter and more haunch-like while the torso could've been a bit longer (seriously, it's practically non-existent). Maybe get rid of the awkward X on the arm in favor of a stripe to match the legs as well.

However, as a whole, I do like it. It's hard to go wrong with a glam rock badger, it's fun, it's got a personality, and it adds to the line. I do wish it played into the original pattern theme a bit more (maybe it moves in packs of 4 and forms a diamond formation when attacking or something), but for what it is, Obstagoon does what it needs do, and it does it well.

Overall, original Zigzagoon is perfect and I would die for them, but Linoone feels a bit underwhelming. The Galarian versions are, as a whole, an improvement, even if I like OG Zigzagoon just a bit more. Good stuff.

It's probably not the first thing anyone thinks to headcanon but do you have any headcanons for the Pokerus virus and it's effects?

Believe it or not I am 100% the type of person to have thought about this way too much already

  • Pokerus is a mutualistic virus. When it infects a Pokemon, it causes a few days of mild symptoms (due to the Pokemon's immune system attacking it), then goes dormant in response to the attack.
  • In its dormant state, the virus absorbs cellular waste in the Pokemon's body and converts it into usable energy, thus making the Pokemon stronger.
  • Pokerus is like chicken pox—you're immune once you've had it once.
  • Symptoms in Pokemon can vary wildly depending on the Pokemon's physiology, but typically they include mild fever, coughing, and fatigue.
  • Symptoms after infection are much less noticeable, but include things like heightened endurance/strength and slight increases in muscle mass (and sometimes size, depending on species).
  • The problem with Pokerus is that it spreads easily, and unlike Pokemon, humans can have severe reactions to it. It's why people don't just infect every Pokemon with it to make them stronger.
  • Elderly and immunocompromised Pokemon are also at risk.
  • Humans can get a Pokerus vaccination, just like you would for the flu.
  • It is illegal to battle in official tournaments with a Pokemon that has been infected within the last week, in order to keep it from spreading.
  • With that said, you occasionally end up with that one ignorant person that intentionally spreads it around to other people's Pokemon thinking they're doing them a favor (which isn't necessarily wrong, but once again, poses a risk to weakened Pokemon and people).
  • Pokemon convert into energy to shrink down and go inside of Pokeballs. In this state, the infection is basically paused until they reassume their matter forms.
  • Pokerus is mostly spread through physical contact with the infected.
  • Some scientists believe that Pokerus pandemics have broken out multiple times over the last few thousand years, and they serve a natural biological function, much like some wildfires. These outbreaks are believed to be part of the reason why modern-day Pokemon are so powerful.
  • Pokemon Centers automatically check for Pokerus the first time you bring a new Pokemon in. Not only can they tell you if your Pokemon has it, but they also can let you know if they're immune already or not.
  • Some poachers will intentionally spread it around the Pokemon they've obtained to make them stronger, as stronger Pokemon sell for more money on the black market. This sometimes ends up backfiring; some poachers have been caught and arrested because they caught the virus themselves and had to go the hospital.
  • Rangers will occasionally catch and check wild Pokemon for the virus before releasing them again in order to keep an eye on its spread.
  • Recommended treatment is to quarantine the infected Pokemon for 3–4 days. Little is needed beyond that, aside from offering them plenty of water and bed rest.
Your post put the things that bugged me about Grafaifai into words, so I edited him based off of your critiques!

Great job on the editing! I don’t know if it’s just me, but I do feel like those three tiny tweaks really do help to make it look a lot more organic.

So apparently in the Diamond and Pearl remakes that no-one ultimately really noticed in the end, if you beat all of Legend Arceus's story first, you can then catch Arceus in that game, and it's actually able to be legitimately shiny hunted. So not only now can we have God himself outside of events, we can now have a legit shiny version of God himself for the first time ever since I don't think any of the Arceus events have him as shiny

Me: wait why are you shiny now

Shiny BDSP Arceus: what do thy mean

Me: I mean you weren't shiny in PLA and that was just the past but suddenly you're shiny now in the present

Shiny Arceus:

Me: are you even the same God or

Shiny Arceus:

Shiny Arceus: *throws a meteor directly at my face*

I feel like they should've kept the Azurill gender-change glitch as a canon bit of lore. Something like how clownfish and such will change genders depending on environmental circumstances.

Not only should they have kept it and written it into some 'dex entries, but they also should create a regional Azurill line that starts off 100% female and ends up 100% male by the time it's fully evolved for good measure

It seems like you have some strong opinions on how Lusamine was handled. Would you like to share them?

Avatar

I don't think it's a hot take to say that Lusamine in USUM and SM are just. completely different characters for some reason? She's actually a pretty cool villain in SM, while in USUM she's like, a good person? Which is particularly whiplash-y considering she's an abusive parent in SM and for USUM to just like, Ignore That and act like everything's fine rubs me the wrong way.

I think that one Bulbapedia note sums it up the best:

I think it's kinda strange that Volo never gets any sort of comeuppance for his whole "meeting God and using him to reset the universe to make a new one" plan besides maybe the shame of it not working.

Yeah, this was weird to me too. He summons Satan to attempt to overthrow God and remake the universe and everyone's just okay with that??? arrest him or something do I have to do everything around here

I'm actually surprised they actually did make Grafaiai's middle finger the long one. On one hand, I'm glad they kept to the actual animal, but on the other hand, I feel like there's now a lot of jokes to be made of it flipping you off.

I'm kind of surprised they didn't give it four fingers or just make the index the long one (as aye-ayes have several long fingers), but I guess they figured that it was fine as it's finger is probably going to be either painting something or crooked in all in-game situations.

You catch a Grafaiai and the first thing it does upon reaching your home is draw an Among Us crewmate on it to establish dominance.

you paint over the crewmate and it paints another, slightly bigger crewmate

There was an early build of SwSh leaked, which included some early stuff, LGPE assets, and Pokémon and references to Pokémon not in the final like Mega Rayquaza, Greninja or a Teddiursa charm. Also yeah, Beta Eternatus.

I found the stuff about the charm and the cut Pokemon on TCRF, but I can't find the Eternatus stuff anywhere unless I'm just blind. I did find this placeholder image, though

beautiful

I used to not really get why you didn’t like ‘pointless’ regional variants at the start of a line but then I met a friend who likes to catch pokemon in games where they can’t evolve and take them to games where they can and evolve them, and now I 100% agree with you. He’s got an alpha Mr Rime with this method.

Also I realized it’s annoying that Sirfetched is stuck in galar forever

Avatar

to be fair, getting something as cool as an Alpha Mr. Rime is possibly the only good use of otherwise unnecessary regionals (plus I'd argue G. Mr. Mime is neither unnecessary or pointless).

EDIT: This was talking about Mime Jr., duh, ignore me

I keep on thinking how each passing month means we’ll see a new Pokémon the fans will consider their new Pokémon waifu. First gardevoir, then hatterene, then primarina, who else will be next?!

Avatar

Grafaiai was the waifu for this generation obviously

Reminder that Ghetsis is so utterly and completely evil and rotten that even PETA's garbage parody game THAT OUTRIGHT SAYS THEY SUPPORT TEAM PLASMA has him as another villain for you to beat.

just wanna toss out there that not only is this funny in and of itself, but PETA supporting the team that doesn't actually care about the welfare of the things they claim they want to help because they're more focused on alternate goals is deliciously tone-deaf

Fazbear enterprises or whatever they're called after at least 11 workers are killed at the ffps location and they're forced to seal it off with cement: Yeah I think we can open a mega mall over this.

the entire plot of SB could've been avoided if they just built over a Pizza Hut or something instead

Anonymous asked:

Okay so, people have gone in-game and used the previews for Somniphobia to see how accurate the description of the Pizzaplex is in-game and they literally fucking found the Dream Sphere doing so (although in the game it is a square). Holy shit. This combined with FFPS in the epilogues, the indie dev story, Freddy and Friends in HAPPS, and the description in the fifth book matching GGY (the person who has all of the highest scores in-game), these stories are literally the shit we were expecting from the Frights. It's just that this series seems to have an issue with writing endings without killing off the main protagonist and we, so far, have zero happy endings.

It's good that they're more canon, but I feel like it's not great that they already had the novels in mind when writing SB. It feels like certain things in the plot aren't explained or fleshed out properly solely because they intended to establish it in the books, when the games should function as their own story and the books should just be a cool tie-in thing that gives a little more info, you know?
