tl;dr hey play this free rpg maker 2000 game called ruina: fairy tale of the forgotten ruins (please remove tumblr’s href.li from the url if you can’t access it)

earlier last year, one of the supposedly big japanese-only free games got translated into english for the first time! look at those screenshots! it is extremely cool. the link already gives a good overview of what the game is about and what to expect from it, but here are some cool features that intrigued/appealed to me personally, especially as someone who has used rpg maker 2000 for years

  • four (eight) main character choices - the game asks you which backstory you want and which face portrait you want to use for your silent MC. the story and interactions vary a bit depending on what you choose
  • mostly text-only dungeon crawling adventures - you go to a point in the map and the game describes things to you. you gain exp largely by doing  map exploration, and little from battles
  • a lot of resource management if you want to play efficiently, that you can also just largely ignore if you just want to take it easy. despite the format, it’s a very forgiving game imo.
  • a bunch of characters you can recruit - the game is not dialogue-heavy, but you have the option to ask two characters to join your party at a time, and you can talk to them in the dungeon and sometimes they also talk to each other. they have a surprising amount of personality even with the little dialogue, plus a touch of backstory that the game doesn’t necessarily expand on, good for letting the imagination run wild
  • character exploration skill checks - you want characters with good synergy for the very rpg maker 2000 battles, but you also want to make sure your team has the right mix of skills to navigate through the dungeon. like lockpicking, kicking doors open, swimming, knowledge of ancient language to decode clues, having a sixth sense, cooking, crafting, etc.
  • invisible character affection meter that adds some extra stuff to one of the endings if the character becomes your bf gf bff (perfectly targeted towards me!!!)
  • two endings! (and some others)
  • new game+! additional difficulty and some minor new content in ng+! carrying over your class changing points or money or rare equips to ng+! NOT carrying over anything to ng+ because you want a more challenging run!
  • it seems like the game takes around 8 hours to complete on average and, given the variations in storyline/interactions, plus MC sub-class changes, the game is imo very replay-friendly. i’ve played 4 runs as of now but my first run was 14 hours (which seems very unusual apparently lol), and my latest one was 7 hours, which i’m sure can be cut down much further if you speedrun. and yes, there’s an in-game play timer
  • weirdly enough the game uses a lot of RTP music so be prepared for that

it’s great and i enjoyed it a lot and wish for it to have more english-speaking fans. again the download link is right this way and if anyone has any questions about progression, the best guide is unfortunately just google translating the jp wiki, or you can ask the subreddit (or you can ask me too but i never log in to this website). if you do play it though, i highly suggest you do your first run without a guide.

the game ultimately targets what i feel is a niche audience for rpg maker games especially, but i hope someone gets interested and ends up enjoying the game!

WILD BUNCH Productions, a company founded by the core team that created Wild Arms, and YUKIKAZE, a company founded by the core team that created Shadow Hearts, have collectively announced spiritual successors Armed Fantasia: To the End of the Wilderness and Penny Blood. A “Double Kickstarter” campaign to fund both of these “large-scale Japanese RPGs” will be launched on August 29.

Armed Fantasia: To the End of the Wilderness and Penny Blood will share a mutual funding goal of $750,000, which will secure a PC release for each game, while a nearby stretch goal will secure ports to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and the newest Nintendo hardware at the time. The “Early-Bird Combo” pledge level will allow early backers to pledge for both games at a highly discounted price.

The Kickstarter campaign will also integrate a “Combo Meter” that affects stretch goals across both games. A pledge for one game will not only add to that game’s stretch goal meter, it will also contribute to the shared Combo Meter that fills up with support from both games. The more the Combo Meter builds up, the more content that is unlocked across both games. By backing one or both games, backers will help build both titles and support other backers. Clearing goals will share content and talent across each game.

WILD BUNCH Productions and YUKIKAZE will also host a weekly community game in which one of the heroes from each game will face off against a monster. Campaign followers will see five different social media-based goals related to an attack, special move, or block, and each monster will have a set number of hits it takes to defeat them. Defeating a monster clears that community stretch goal and upgrades the rewards chosen during pledges. If one game’s team is not able to clear its goal by not hitting a monster enough times, any hits or cleared goals from the other game will carry over, allowing one community to help the other.

Here is an overview of each game:

Tactics RPG 'Fairy Fencer F: Refrain Chord' announced for Switch

The latest issue of the Japanese magazine Famitsu has revealed a new entry in the Fairy Fencer F series.

Fairy Fencer F: Refrain Chord is being developed by Sting and published by Compile Heart. It will be a tactics RPG, differentiating itself from its traditional RPG predecessor. Set to be released in Japan on September 15th, an English localization has yet to be announced. A western release isn’t entirely off the table though, as other entries in the series have eventually been given the localization treatment. The game will be priced at ¥8,580, and a limited edition will also be available for ¥10,780. What’s included in the limited edition is anyone’s guess, as details are currently scarce.

Check out more details below via Gematsu:

  • Fairy Fencer F: Refrain Chord is a tactics RPG featuring an assortment of characters from the series.
  • “Dramatic Resonance” can overturn the battle through song. A high-risk, high-return element that can strengthen both sides of the battlefield, it occurs when an ally or enemy songstress sings.
  • Support Fairy Boost has a high degree of freedom.
  • There is a treasure hunting element on the world map.
  • Characters: Fang (voiced by Ryouta Oosaka), Tiara (voiced by Kaori Ishihara), Songstress Fleur (voiced by Yui Ishikawa), Fairy Eryn (voiced by Rumi Ookubo)

Hello (I know it’s my first post nobody cares or rather don’t pay attention to it)

I played Witch’s Heart recently and it was so slow on my PC I had to play it windowed so great… I want to draw so much more about it (and some characters more than others, true…). I can’t wait for the last part to come I’m hyped, come at me full game.
