I was walking around in a Target store, when I saw a cashier hand this little boy some money back. The boy couldn’t have been more than 5 or 6 years old. The cashier said, “I’m sorry, but you don’t have enough money to buy this doll.” Then the little boy turned to the old woman next to him: ”Granny, are you sure I don’t have enough money?” The old lady replied: ”You know that you don’t have enough money to buy this doll, my dear.” Then she asked him to stay there for just 5 minutes while she went to look a round. She left quickly. The little boy was still holding the doll in his hand. Finally, I walked toward him and I asked him who he wished to give this doll to. “It’s the doll that my sister loved most and wanted so much for Christmas. She was sure that Santa Claus would bring it to her.” I replied to him that maybe Santa Claus would bring it to her afterall, and not to worry. But he replied to me sadly. “No, Santa Claus can’t bring it to her where she is now. I have to give the doll to my mommy so that she can give it to my sister when she goes there.” His eyes were so sad while saying this. “My sister has gone to be with God. Daddy says that Mommy is going to see God very soon too, so I thought that she could take the doll with her to give it to my sister.” My heart nearly stopped. The little boy looked up at me and said: “I told daddy to tell mommy not to go yet. I need her to wait until I come back from the mall.” Then he showed me a very nice photo of him where he was laughing. He then told me “I want mommy to take my picture with her so she won’t forget me. I love my mommy and I wish she doesn’t have to leave me, but daddy says that she has to go to be with my little sister.” Then he looked again at the doll with sad eyes, very quietly. I quickly reached for my wallet and said to the boy. “Suppose we check again, just in case you do have enough money for the doll?” “OK,” he said, “I hope I do have enough.” I added some of my money to his without him seeing and we started to count it. There was enough for the doll and even some spare money. The little boy said: “Thank you God for giving me enough money!” Then he looked at me and added, “I asked last night before I went to sleep for God to make sure I had enough money to buy this doll, so that mommy could give it to my sister. He heard me!” “I also wanted to have enough money to buy a white rose for my mommy, but I didn’t dare to ask God for too much. But He gave me enough to buy the doll and a white rose.” “My mommy loves white roses.” A few minutes later, the old lady returned and I left with my basket. I finished my shopping in a totally different state from when I started. I couldn’t get the little boy out of my mind. Then I remembered a local newspaper article two days ago, which mentioned a drunk man in a truck, who hit a car occupied by a young woman and a little girl. The little girl died right away, and the mother was left in a critical state. The family had to decide whether to pull the plug on the life-sustaining machine, because the young woman would not be able to recover from the coma. Was this the family of the little boy? Two days after this encounter with the little boy, I read in the newspaper that the young woman had passed away. I couldn’t stop myself as I bought a bunch of white roses and I went to the funeral home where the body of the young woman was exposed for people to see and make last wishes before her burial. She was there, in her coffin, holding a beautiful white rose in her hand with the photo of the little boy and the doll placed over her chest. I left the place, teary-eyed, feeling that my life had been changed forever.. The love that the little boy had for his mother and his sister is still, to this day, hard to imagine. And in a fraction of a second, a drunk driver had taken all this away from him. Now you have 2 choices: 1) Reblog this message. 2) Ignore it as if it never touched your heart

A/N: Don’t worry, I’m still doing Secrets We Just Can’t Keep, I’m actually updating tomorrow so yeah! Anyways, I seriously feel like there aren’t many stories about Skate so thus I decided to write this. Hope you enjoy xoxo

Part One

“Rochelle, so we really have to go?” I asked.

Rochelle, my older sister was finishing her third pageant this month.

“Yes Y/N, I would love for you to be there supporting me.” Rochelle demanded.

“Can Brittany, Dani, and Nikki come?” I asked.

“Yes, the more, the merrier, but we’re leaving soon so you would have to call them right now, if you want them to come.” she explained.

“Thanks, I’m calling right now” I replied. Rochelle walked out of my room. I dialed Nikki’s number.

“Hey Y/N.” Nikki answered.

“Hey, Rochelle is forcing me to come to another one of her stupid pageants you think you could come?” I asked.

I hated going to Rochelle’s pageants, they were always so long and pointless. Usually you would think a girl would love going to a pageant and meeting someone interesting there – Never happens….ever.

“Another pageant! Wouldn’t that be her eighth one this month?” Nikki groaned.

“Technically her third, but yeah.” I replied.

“Hold on, let me four way Dani and Britt.” she replied.

“Kay.” I replied. There was a long pause.

“Nikki.” Dani and Brittany said at the same time.

“And Y/N,” I replied.

“Wait, do I hear Britt too?” Dani asked.

“Yup, I’m here D.” Britt said, I could hear the smile on her face.

“Let me, Rochelle is in another pageant and you want us to come” Dani replied.

How does she always do that!

“Yeah.” Nikki and I replied in unison.

“Fine, let me get my ‘Rochelle’s # 1’ sign” She sighed.

“And I’ll grab my ‘Rochelle is better than you’ sign.” Britt sighed as well.

“I love you guys so much! So see you in five?” I asked.

“See you in five!” they giggled.

I flipped my phone closed and shoved it in my front pocket. I ran downstairs to see my sister hyperventilating and my mom telling her not to cry because it would “ruin her makeup”. All I could do was laugh. I don’t why my sister always freaks out about these things. The same thing happens every time. Ashley always won because her mom, Liz, was pageant coordinator, and Rochelle would always get 1st runner-up, obviously she would win if Ashley’s mom didn’t fix every pageant. In the end, it didn’t matter I still had to listen to that lame acceptance speech that never changed. It was enough to make me throw up. I heard the door bell ring.

I raced over to the door and opened it. The girls stood there with a bored expression.

“Go Rochelle,” they cheered in a monotone voice.

“Sorry, I know this is the last thing you wanted to do” I sighed.

“Last thing, doesn’t even begin to describe the feeling I have right now.” Dani replied.

“Let’s just get this thing over with” Nikki agreed.

“Here’s to another five hours I’ll never get back..” Brittany mumbled.

“Group hug?” I suggested.

“Group hug!” Brittany agreed.

“Group hug!” Dani and Nikki smiled.

We all huddled together and pretended to cry. I loved these guys. We’ve been best friends since kindergarten were we would have play-do eating competitions. Of course we would all get sick in the end, but back then we didn’t care.

“You ready to go?” I heard my mom ask.

We left our group hug and walked out of the door. My mom opened the doors and we climbed in. About five minutes later, Rochelle finally got into the car. My mom drove off and soon we arrived at the Marriott hotel.

“Alright we’re going to Ballroom A, so girls  please help with us with the bags then you’re free to roam the hotel for a couple of hours, and go into the convention center at 7:00 to watch the pageant.” my mom explained.

“Alright mom.” I replied.

We got out of the car and grabbed the bags. What does she put in these things? Bricks! We quickly waddled as fast as we could over to Ballroom A. I was the first to drop the bags. I passed out on the floor.

“Are you ok?” Brittany asked.

“Yeah, was it me or were those bags extremely heavy?” I asked.

“They were somewhat heavy, but not enough to pass out on the floor, drama queen.” Dani giggled.

I shrugged and started laughing.

“You guys ready to roam….” I began when he entered.

He was absolutely breathtaking. He had sexy scruff, wonderful heartbreaking chocolate brown eyes, and the most kissable lips I had ever seen.

If I hadn’t been so invisible I would’ve thought he was looking at me, but then again someone so perfect couldn’t have been looking at me.

“Y/N, are you ok?” Nikki asked.

“Huh, what?” I replied finally coming back to my senses.

“You went blank for a good five minutes..” Brittany explained. She might’ve said something else but I didn’t hear I was too busy staring at the angel that stood about 12 feet away from me.

“Why don’t you just talk to him?” Dani smiled.

“Because, I’m too human.” I laughed.

“So is he, why don’t you just talk to him.” Nikki giggled.

“Okay, I’ll do it.” I replied. I finally stood up and began to walk towards him. He met me half way.

“Hi, I’m Y/N.” I greeted.

For a moment I stared into his beautiful brown eyes.

“I’m Nate.” he smiled.

Wow he was gorgeous. I took a deep breath.

“Are you here for someone?” I asked.

“You could say that..” he sighed.

“Yeah me too, my sister, I hate pageants.” I replied.

“So do I, I think they always turn out with the same result, well at least at the last couple I’ve been too.” he smiled.

He felt the same way I did.

“Wow, I feel the same way.” I smiled.

“Really, I thought I was the only one who felt that way.” he replied.

“No not at all.” I assured him. He was perfect, maybe too perfect, but still perfect.

“Nate, what’s taking you so long?” a squeaky nostalgic voice called out.

“You can’t be serious..” I whispered to myself. Ashley walked through the door and hugged Nate and gave him a peck on the lips.

Please tell me that was an accident.

“Y/N, it’s been a while.” she smiled.

“I saw you last weekend.” I reminded her.

“Right, when I creamed your sister again.” she replied.

“Exactly, with the help of your not so secretive pageant fixing mother!” I shot back.

Her smile dropped.

“Whatever, I see you’ve met my boyfriend Nate,” she giggled.

Boyfriend! Okay I should’ve known from the kiss, but that still hurt to hear.

“Yeah, it seems that I have..” I replied looking at Nick.

He shrugged and gave me and apologetic look. I shook my head and looked back at Ashley.

“Tell your sister I said good luck, she’ll need it.” she smiled.

“I would say the same for you, but you have your mom, so what’s the use.” I shrugged and walked away.

“I’m sorry Y/N.” Dani comforted. Both Nikki and Brittany gave me a hug.

“Thanks guys, it’s ok, he wasn’t worth it anyway.” I lied.

He was worth it! He was worth that and more, I should have known he was here for his girlfriend. This was going to be the longest pageant ever!
