Do you have a master list of your fics?

I keep meaning to do one, but I don’t! So thank you! I’ll do it here and pin it.

We Can Be Heroes canon marauders fic, from 6th year till 31st Oct 1981, with a happy ending... my favourite

A Little Risk my current WIP, an anti-fascist, murder mystery marauders AU - Remus is a Jewish detective in 1930s England, the Duke of Grimmauld is murdered and he is asked to investigate, Lily Evans as P.I. joins the case. Doctor Potter and the Duke’s eldest son are suspects. Who is the murderer??

Maybe I Waited Too Long - A Marauders Medical AU -  Dr. James Potter and Dr. Sirius Black had gotten their lives and careers back on track after the nightmare that followed the collapse of Slytherin Pharmaceuticals, and moved abroad to work in Dublin to get away from painful memories. But they find themselves confronted by their past, their lost loves and arch enemies.

Prongs, What Did You Do? Sirius wants to make Jily happen and James wants to make Wolfstar happen. Neither couple look like they will ever get together, so they both independently decide to take matters into their own hands, like good Wingmen...

Evans Strikes Back (one shot) Sirius burst out laughing.“Touché, darling,” he said. “Although I think that I fit the part of Han Solo so much better than Prongsie here?”His grey eyes sparkled as he winked at Lily.“Well, obviously,” said Lily, matter-of-factly, popping a handful of crisps into her mouth.“Huh?” said James, looking between them in horror. “That’s… that’s so not true!”

All Too Well Prompt: Wolfstar angst - Snape gives Sirius an ultimatum.

Have Yourself a Merry Little Wolfnoote James and Harry make Wolfstar happen... very fluffy!

The Very End the canon marauders ending/ 31st October 1981 ... ugh, in three parts: Jily, Sirius POV and Remus POV - very bloody tragic

Nah, He Didn't Lily talks to a cute black dog about James Potter... fluffy BlackEvans

Birthday Blues Sirius turns 60! Wolfstar fluff

The Last Laugh James is embarrassed, friends make it worse and then better

Minding Harry babysitting fluff

Thanks for making me do this!

Adding 2 latest fics because I like them more than some of the others...

Wildflowers Lily puts flowers on Prongs’ head... (Jily fluff and angst)

The Prank - Boys Don't Cry (current WIP, marauders’ friendships & Black brothers) Prequel to the canon marauders fic We Can Be Heroes. How and why did Sirius Black reveal Remus' secret to Snape?

An interesting thing to explore when analysing Sirius’s rage towards Peter, is his personal sense of hurt at the betrayal (outside of James and Lily’s murders). The tragedy of the situation is that he considered Peter a friend. Although Sirius never once mentions the harm Peter has done to him ( the little thing of wrongful imprisonment) and throughout the scene frames his anger as wanting justice for Jily and mainly to protect Harry (which is certainly his prime motivation).

There is just something about the way he rips into Peter, “cringing piece of filth”, “Stinking skin,” and my personal fave “there’s enough filth on my robes without you touching them,” that has so many layers.

It also reminds me of “shame of my flesh,” and is potentially another similarity with Walburga. Wherein they both resort to awful insults to mask how much someone has wounded them.

I just read something about some fanfic readers on TikTok, mostly younger ones, are against AO3 because it doesn't recommend fic to them. As in, it doesn't track them and auto-feed them content using an algorithm.

I am sure it's not every younger fanfiction-reading nerd. But....

The generational divide between old internet and new internet users is so stark sometimes. Like. That younger people don't remember the individual fanfiction websites days... okay. I get that. Some of them weren't even born and time is time and it moves on. It's fine.

But to grow up with an internet where you do not get a choice, or not much of a choice, except to be fed content? Oh wow that's a yikes I've never thought about before.

Yeah, there's some filter capabilities but companies override that all the time with subtle little changes. Youtube recommends stuff constantly (often conservative videos even to me who has no history of watching or liking that shit). Twitter and Facebook got rid of chronological posts and even when you try to get rid of suggested posts, they come back. Instagram is basically all ads now. And then TikTok literally doesn't even ask you to search (and as I recall, their search function sucks), and you can like videos to change what you see *a little* but ultimately the algorithm will lead you wherever it wants.

That's so sad to grow up with that. Choice and searching and relying on your judgment and the recommendations of people you like... those are good things.

I am not like "oh those youths!" here. I am "fuck these corporations!" here. Look at this shit. It's not a rec list from someone you like and trust--it's what corporate has decided you should like. And a lot of these kids have not known anything else. That's scary and infuriating.

The greenhouses are teeming with life: plants now overgrown and bathing in sunlight, bugs and beetles crawling about on every leaf or stem or petal, and students all anxious to shed their robes in enjoyment of the warm June afternoon.

James navigates his way through this unusual crowd; despite his height, he weaves easily through the groups of students, taking in their laughter and jokes, a warmth as easy to bask in as the overhead sun. It is courtesy of a folded piece of parchment located in his pocket that he can easily find who he seeks. Otherwise, he would have had to duck in and out of several greenhouses first.

His stomach coils at the sight of her, the familiar sight of his girlfriend hunched over a table, frown clearly visible as she shuffles through parchment. He half considers leaning against the nearest wall, creating a game where he sees just how long it will take Lily to notice that he’s arrived. Before he can decide whether or not to do so, she clears her throat.

“Yes, James?”

He grins, moving forward as if gravity itself is tugging him toward her, he the tides and she the glowing moon. “Thought I’d find you here.”

Lily can’t stop her mouth from twitching. “Funny, that, seeing as I told you I’d be here.”

James comes to rest next to her, but then can’t help but reach out, nudging her shoulder with his side. “Yes, but that was hours ago. I figured you’d be done by now.”

“Got distracted.”

“Get undistracted.”

“Hmm.”

“Okay. Be distracted in a different way now.”

She looks up, finally meeting his eye, and not for the first time (and certainly not the last) does he marvel at the beauty of that green, a startling bright emerald amongst the plants behind her. “A different way? Like by you?”

He grins, slipping his fingers through the loose strands of hair by her ear. “Of course not. I am not distracting in the least.”

She laughs and he returns it in earnest as she stands, wrapping a hand around his wrist. “Aren’t you?”

“No.”

Lily’s laughter softens, in its place a searching gaze, the kind he thinks could see straight through him and into his soul if she wished. “Liar,” she whispers, a tease as much as an accusation, and his only reply is the wordless press of his lips to hers.

“You are a distraction,” she will tell him later, when he forgets all about his insistence otherwise, when his guard is down in the complete contentedness of being together, “and the best kind, too.”

I have just finished reading "we can be heroes" and i love this so so much. Characterization of everyone is just so amazing. I am especially fan of your james. Thank you very much for this beautiful, heartwarming, heartwrenching fic.

@mortallynuttygalaxy THANK YOU! This is like getting a beautiful present, or better! Honestly this is made my day (and James’s day 🥰🥰🥰) ! We Can Be Heroes is still my favourite fic because it took me so long to write it and I really missed writing canon marauders by the end of it. I’m always so delighted whenever anyone shares their thought on it <33333

““Yes, indeed,” said Lupin. “It took them the best part of three years to work out how to do it. Your father and Sirius here were the cleverest students in the school, and lucky they were, because the Animagus transformation can go horribly wrong… Peter needed all the help he could get from James and Sirius.”

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, pg 354

Dismantle to idea that Remus was the smart one of the group. Dismantle the idea that Remus was the brain behind the animagus research and transformation. Listen to Remus. This is canon. Give James and Sirius their due.

whenever im sad i like to imagine 11 year old james with perfectly tailored robes and his bursts of energy where he just runs around the corridors screaming with an equally wild sirius black tailing after him.
james howling with laughter as his unkempt hair (finally free of sleekeazy’s) gets rustled by the autumn wind as he stomps in mud puddles reenacting godric gryffindor brandishing his sword to defeat ‘like a million’ dragons
a first year james falling asleep in history of magic because he was up all night joking with sirius. he snores softly with his parchment sticking to his cheek.
with a lazy flick of his wand james can transfigure a quill into a glass bottle, leaving mcgonagall astonished and terrified because a troublemaker is one thing, but a brilliant troublemaker? she bites back a smile knowing that these next seven years will be anything but dull

Reasons Why I Don’t Think James Potter Bullied Snape

  • “James and Snape hated each other from the moment they set eyes on each other, it was just one of those things, you can understand that, can’t you?” -Sirius Black, OOTP, p. 590
  • “Well, Snape was a special case. He never lost an opportunity to curse James so you couldn’t really expect James to take that lying down, could you?” -Remus Lupin, OOTP, p. 591
  • “…it was also enchanted to forever repel (as insultingly as possible) the curiosity of their nemesis, Severus Snape.” -JK Rowling, Pottermore, Marauder’s Map. The term nemesis, as defined by Dictionary.com means “an opponent or rival whom a person cannot best or overcome.” Implying they were on equal footing. As in anything Snape received, he paid back in full.
  • In Snape’s Worst Memory, James attacks Snape with a common jinx (that Snape himself invented) and Snape retaliates with a dark curse. What makes anyone think that Snape was incapable of using one to incapacitate James or Sirius?
  • Snape had a group of friends who grew up to be Death Eaters and who harassed Muggle-borns in school. I’m sure they attempted retaliation on the Marauders. It doesn’t make any sense that they would choose not to fight against those who they most likely hate most, meaning that Snape would have just as much ability to double-team James.
  • It takes a certain amount of compassion to dedicate your life to saving innocent people, and James was a member of the Order of the Phoenix. If he really harassed and tortured Snape to make him feel like shit, as is implied by many, I doubt he would have enough compassion to join an organization based on protecting everyone (read: you would have to save people you hated sometimes).
  • Literally everyone who talks about James other than Snape loves him. Dumbledore, Hagrid, Sirius, Remus, everyone. Surely if he was that terrible to someone, at least one other person would hate him, wouldn’t they?

Great points that I’ve always thought were overlooked by many people. More points to consider:

  • James grew up in a privileged, blessed household, yet he empathizes with nearly everyone, esp minorities. Peter was a talentless underdog, an outcast, a no one. Sirius coming from a repressing, abusive household. Lily as a muggle-born, and muggle-borns in general. Don’t even get me started on Remus and his lycanthropy issue, that is downright stunning how James handled that.
  • Snape invented spells designed to hurt other people. James suspended him in the air, Snape attempted to slice his head open. One of them was intending to humiliate, the other was intending to maim or kill.
  • “Well, they [James and Snape] did rather detest each other. Not unlike yourself and Mr. Malfoy. And then, your father did something Snape could never forgive.” “What?” “He saved his life.” (Dumbledore, SS/SP). This is an important parallel between James and Harry; in the end they both saved Snape’s and Draco’s lives respectively, despite their animosities towards another. The differing factor between these pair of rivals was that the Potter boys had enough capacity for compassion that they succeeded in saving the lives of their enemies.
  • Sirius says in GoF that during Hogwarts, Snape was in a gang full of future Death Eaters, some of who were mentioned: Rosier and Wilkes, the Lestranges, Avery and Mulciber (GoF, Padfoot Returns). That’s a large gang, far bigger than the four Marauders, especially when you consider that James and Sirius were the ringleaders and Remus and Peter didn’t participate in most of their activities.
  • Dumbledore, Hagrid, McGonagall, Sirius, Remus, Kingsley Shacklebolt, Mad Eye Moody, Emmeline Vance, Elphias Doge, Dedalus Diggle, and Hestia Jones spoke highly of James (hell even Peter knew James had compassion enough not to kill him).
  • When Hagrid gives Harry the photo album of his parents in First Year, he says that he owled all of Lily and James’ old school friends for photos of them. All of those people loved Lily and James, and kept photos of them long after school, and after their deaths.

At the end of the day, James and Snape both treated each other like shit, but they had their reasons (despite how petty those reasons were, to them it was of utmost importance, we’re not living in their shoes and experiencing the same level of animosity), and it’s unfair to say that Snape was simply an innocent victim when we canonly know that he wasn’t. You can even say that James bullied a bully. Snape was a racist bigot who felt that a minority were subhuman and not on the same standard as he was. He joined a terrorist organization whose purpose was to torture, incapacitate and kill Muggle-borns and Muggles. His greatest virtue was his ability to love a single person in his life, however his compassion ends there.

People are all too willing to judge James based on SWM alone, when in fact JKR had been building up the goodness of his character in all seven books. James was capable of showing kindness to everyone but Snape; begrudging him for that is unfair because the feeling was mutual. At least James had the decency to step in and save Snape’s life at one point; Snape wasn’t capable of doing that for him even years later.

Thank you for this

Heartwarming

“Moony, come see,” Sirius called from the other room. Remus put his mug of tea on the counter and went into the living room, where Sirius had baby James propped against a pillow on the floor. Sirius rolled a ball to him and James reached out and grabbed it, giggling. Remus smiled softly at the sight.

He went over and stood behind Sirius, with his hand on his shoulder. Sirius grinned up at him. Remus was reminded sharply of another heartwarming scene, much like this one, except the baby in question was Harry. Sirius met his eyes, and Rmeus could tell he was having the same memory. They exchanged a sad smile, but James brought them back to the present by tossing the ball at Remus with a squeal.

haha, unless…

Lily Evans is not a problem-causer, really, truly - she’s just surrounded by them. How is she supposed to have a normal life when her roommates are completely barmy, her sister hates her (and is planning a wedding), and now some random blokes from Marlene’s class are barging onto her sofa every week to interrupt a hitherto sacred space.

It’s not as if she wants James Potter to be attacked by chavs, become Jesus, buy her coffee, or listen to her ramble about Petunia. Mostly that’s his fault.

Really.

Prompt no.24: Sea (ao3)

It wasn’t uncommon to see couples walking hand in hand on the beach, under an umbrella, or standing amidst the waves - the perfect picture of peaceful love. People watch the sea lapping gently at the sand, hypnotised by the murmuring of the waves.
The red-haired girl pulls the young boy forward by his arm, laughing loudly. He stumbles forward, eyes only for her as she drags him out into the water. She loses her footing when a wave knocks her from behind and he catches her, lifting her up and spinning around, making her scream – He slips and falls into the waist-deep water, taking her with him. Their faces emerge, bright with mirth, hair clinging on foreheads and she fishes along the surface of the water for something. He holds her waist securely as she retrieves his glasses and pushes them on his face. Leaning down, he captures her lips in a sweet kiss, as foamy waves wash over their legs, their silhouette brightened by the setting sun.

Shoutout to the people on the jilymicrofics server who, when asked, gave me a dozen amazing ideas as inspos xD

damn this is too cute

such a pretty image you’ve painted !! I can almost smell the seawind the salt, hear sea gulls and feel the sand between my toes.

Limited Vocabulary

They’d been lucky to make it out in one piece—though one could argue that James was hardly in one piece, exactly, with a deep gash through his forearm and cuts from debris peppering his face. Lily had been on the other side of the pub, battling with two masked death eaters simultaneously, heart pounding, desperately trying not to think about James on the other side of the building. Last she’d seen, he was fighting off an attack from both sides, but was managing very well considering. If he hadn’t been such a talented spellcaster Lily would have been more worried, but she’d been in enough battles with him to know that James could hold his own against two opponents with fairly little effort. She, on the other hand, gifted as she was, didn’t excel nearly as well at dueling, and needed to keep her mind on the present moment in order to not be blasted across the room…or worse. Every time they were in a battle it was clear that their adversaries were much more interested in ending her life than they were anyone else’s, especially if her partner was a pureblood. This fact had resulted in many fights between her and her friends, especially James, Sirius, and Marlene, all of whom felt it was their responsibility to focus on defending her in a fight. She’d finally convinced them to focus on their own battles by emphasizing that if they died for her benefit, she’d never forgive them. And they were all much more likely to make it out alive if they kept focused on their own fight.

Which is why she’d been being a hypocrite as she worried over James in the middle of sending a hex toward one of her assailants, meanwhile ducking a spell from the other. She’d just begun to gain some focus back when a loud crash echoed across the room, and in the moment she turned to see what had happened, a spell from one of her opponents flew past her head, missing her by inches. She didn’t care—across the room from her lay James, crumpled just beyond a large pile of rubble. She darted to him, ducking spells while throwing her own, aware that it was now four against one, aware that she was probably moments away from both of their deaths. When she made it to James’s side, a brief thought crossed her mind that the fates must have some stake in keeping them alive. In the next breath, she was apparating them to the safe house they’d been assigned in case of emergency, which had already been protected by wards to keep them from being followed.

James was still unconscious when they appeared on the floor of the dark living room. Lily felt his chest for a heartbeat, the rise and fall of it assuring her enough to take a breath. She lit the sconces in the room with a flick of her wand, ignited the fireplace beside them with another, and then got to work. She’d been apprenticing as a healer for nearly a year when the war took a turn for the worse, and it was no longer safe for her to be out in public. But in that time she’d learned enough to be one of the most useful members of the Order, at least when it came to tending the wounded. By the time James awoke, she’d fully healed the cuts on his face, and his arm was tightly wrapped. It would be sore for a day or two, but would mend fine.

“What…?” He looked around, groggy, until his eyes landed on hers in the firelight. “Are you alright?” His voice pitched up in worry, and James sat up against the cushions of the couch, placing an arm on hers.

She laughed at him, her throat suddenly tight. “I’m fine, obviously—I’m the one sitting up, aren’t I?”

He didn’t seem to find this funny, only breathing out a sigh of relief. He looked around the room, taking in that they were safe now. “You got us out?”

She nodded, and swallowed hard as he stared at her. She’d never gotten used to the way he looked at her, with such admiration, with such love and tenderness. They’d been through so much together now, and yet nothing had happened beyond those looks. She never fully understood why, except that the war kept everyone so scared that the idea of letting oneself feel anything hopeful and good felt unnatural, or somehow unkind to those who they’d lost. Marlene had told her that she deserved happiness even in the darkness, that they all did, but somehow reaching for it felt impossible, scarier than being in battle against multiple death eaters. She could hardly stand to lose the love she already had—the idea of having anymore, and risking losing it too…it didn’t feel like a bridge she was ready to cross.

A smutty order! Jily treat on a Friday from @itsjamespotter
