It Ain't That Serious, My Dude

@blautitlewave / blautitlewave.tumblr.com

I love history, memes, and hating Tumblr. I'm also Bi and autistic, not that anyone cares. Don't ask for pronouns, because who gives a shit what I'm called. As you will probably be able to glean from my reblogs and quips, I think I am very hilarious. I ignore activity on this blog. This is my main dumping ground for me to say and post what I want.

Just saw a post talking about "having a superiority complex over not watching Disney live action movies" and I was like damn, the bar for superiority is pretty low these days. Just the other day I saw an open single-serve slice of American cheese lying on the sidewalk and I didn't roll it up and shove it down my gullet without chewing like a hungry duck, I guess that makes me a genius who stands above the vulgar masses like a god

Love that Oppenheimer is a deeply disturbing horror movie about a man forced to accept that he is, in a person, the representative manifestation of mankind’s evil in committing one of the greatest horrors of human history - LITERALLY acting as the modern Prometheus, tormented by his sins for the remainder of time. Knowing that he will never be pitied and his actions will forever be utterly unforgivable because the blood of genocide and the potential of total human annihilation will eternally drip from his hands.

But also the simultaneous indictment by the film that to blame a single person for the Manhattan Project is to refuse to accept your own capacity for great evil if the ends ever seem to justify the means, and the culpability of every member of a species that lets itself create something so unspeakably terrible.

Hate that twitter’s take on such a nuanced and brilliantly handled examination of those issues is “movie bad because protagonist not evil enough.”

Just saw someone on Twitter complain about the lack of Japanese people in Oppenheimer, and what did you expect??? Did you want the final act to be the bomb dropping and see people burning alive???

The reason why we don't see a Japanese perspective is because one, including a Japanese perspective, just to see how bad the suffering was would be exploitation. Two, to see an accurate and sensitive take on how the japanese felt about Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan (as incredible as he is) isn't the right person to do this. And three, it's based on Oppenheimer's biography

Oppenheimer, the movie, literally shows you white people doing something evil and just incredible inhumane because they removed themselves away, both emotionally and physically, from the people they are hurting. Nagasaki and Hiroshima only exist in those men's distant thoughts and imaginations. One guy literally asks to take a city off the bombing because that's where he had his honeymoon. It's disturbing and unsettling, as if those people were not real human beings. The lack of Japanese people drives the entire point home.

Also, Japanese cinema is right there. Barefoot Gen, Grave of the Fireflies, or Hiroshima (responsible for showing to many Americans the effects of the bombs for the first time) are just a few of the many, many decades of post-war Japanese movies we have

I saw that tweet. It was stupid as hell. It’s a biographical film about one man. People need to stop expecting a film to include everything and the kitchen sink. Like, do people hear themselves? Hollywood should work to be accurate to history, and yes there is a trend of American cinema glorifying war, but there is also cinema we make where war is depicted as hell. People need to stop depending on Hollywood to replace non-fiction books and foreign cinema. American cinema will always have its limits and its habits. So.. that means you look elsewhere, then. It’s intellectual laziness to just sit and complain that a film “doesn’t tell every side of the story”.

It’d be like making a documentary about Reagan and complaining about how we don’t get two hours told from the perspective of the Mujahdeen. He met them, yes, he gave them military aid, but they’re *not* Reagan, so there’s no reason to include them beyond Reagan’s personal interactions with them. That’s simply how limited single-person biopics work!

Holy fucking shit queer people really fucking hate masculinity

Like, I know anyone following me has seen me talk about this shit but fuck

This queer movie review podcast is talking about 70s glam rock fashion (a favorite of mine) and the one host says "an effeminate man is his true self, because masculinity is fake, the only way to be real is to be feminine"

Like, what the fuck? First of all, way to discount generations of queer people, and displays of queer masculinity, great job. Second, tell me you've never spoken to a trans man or a butch or literally anyone who's ever been forced into a feminine social role or feminine presentation without telling me.

I hate how pervasive this attitude is. I hate how it makes it uncomfortable, at best, to exist in queer spaces as someone who is not, can not, and does not want to be sufficiently feminine.

A note to all creatives:

Right now, you have to be a team player. You cannot complain about AI being used to fuck over your industry and then turn around and use it on somebody else’s industry.

No AI book covers. No making funny little videos using deepfakes to make an actor say stuff they never did. No AI translation of your book. No AI audiobooks. No AI generated moodboards or fancasts or any of that shit. No feeding someone else’s unfinished work into Chat GPT “because you just want to know how it ends*” (what the fuck is wrong with you?). No playing around with AI generated 3D assets you can’t ascertain the origin of. None of it. And stop using AI filters on your selfies or ESPECIALLY using AI on somebody else’s photo or artwork.

We are at a crossroad and at a time of historically shitty conditions for working artists across ALL creative fields, and we gotta stick together. And you know what? Not only is standing up for other artists against exploitation and theft the morally correct thing to do, it’s also the professionally smartest thing to do, too. Because the corporations will fuck you over too, and then they do it’s your peers that will hold you up. And we have a long memory.

Don’t make the mistake of thinking “your peers” are only the people in your own industry. Writers can’t succeed without artists, editors, translators, etc making their books a reality. Illustrators depend on writers and editors for work. Video creators co-exist with voice actors and animators and people who do 3D rendering etc. If you piss off everyone else but the ones who do the exact same job you do, congratulations! You’ve just sunk your career.

Always remember: the artists who succeed in this career path, the ones who get hired or are sought after for commissions or collaboration, they aren’t the super talented “fuck you I got mine” types. They’re the one who show up to do the work and are easy to get along with.

And they especially are not scabs.

*that’s not even how it ends that’s a statistically likely and creatively boring way for it to end. Why would you even want to read that.

I know it feels like an understatement but you sometimes make more progress by pointing out that conservatives are fucking rude. going out of your way to call someone the wrong name because you don't like them? rude. childish. this isn't fucking kindergarten, Carl. she said her name is Jennifer. Everybody knows her as Jennifer. You are the one making things confusing. Grow up.

"misgendering is violence": invites discourse over the TraNs DeBatE, puts people on the defensive, opens you up to accusations of liberal snowflakery, comes off as a hypothetical thought exercise

"Who the fuck is Jason? I don't know a Jason. Oh her? You mean Jen? You mean fucking Jen? That's Jen, dipshit." : crystal clear. you're making shit more difficult for everyone because you're a rude manchild.

baristas deserve 100 dollars per hour

there's a whole culture of mostly white women whose entire personality is "Don't talk to me before I've had my coffee or ill kill you" and a barista's job is to deal with those people before they've had their coffee

thought this was a fuckin weird thing to say and lo and behold! they were a terf!

When studies show that underage drinking is harmful, it's banned easily. But when studies show that spanking is harmful, it remains legal and parents still insist on doing it.

Age restrictions on purchasing cigarettes pass easily. But laws prohibiting smoking where children are forced to breathe in secondhand smoke are much harder to pass.

Children under a certain age are prohibited from using most social media websites. But adults are allowed to post videos of their children's meltdowns.

Teenagers need their parents' permission to get body modifications. But parents can get their babies' ears pierced.

Anyone who genuinely wants to protect children would not panic about the children's own choices while ignoring what adults force on them. Anyone who genuinely wants to protect children would not insist that studies on the dangers of children's own choices be fully trusted and obeyed while ignoring and arguing with studies on the dangers of how adults treat children.

But many adults just want to control children, not protect them.

Hey btw I saw a video a while back where someone was filming a guy through his window in his own house to make fun of him so I decided to report it to Twitter, writing to them about how it’s illegal to record people in their own houses without consent (in America) and they actually took down the post despite it having more than 100k likes so basically point is: if you see someone being an asshole and posting people without their consent, report that shit for exposing private information, write a note about how it violates laws (in the u.s. it is illegal to record people where they have the expectation of privacy, (their own home, a bathroom, a changing room) laws on filming in public vary from state to state so look up your local laws) and if the content posted features you, threaten to sue them even if you know you don’t have the means to sue. scare social media sites into not allowing people to record others without their consent

I think we should let Ron Perlman burn a house down. You know, as a treat.

Thanks @ingdamnit for bringing this to my attention.

Reblogging a new chain with uncensored captions because disabled people aren't babies

"But I will say one thing before I get off this. The motherfucker who said 'we're going to keep this thing going until people start losing their houses and their apartments.' Listen to me motherfucker. There's a lot of ways to lose your house, some of it is financial, some of it is karma, and some of it is just figuring out who the fuck said that. And we know who said that, and where he fucking lives. There's a lot of ways to lose your house. You wish that on people, you wish that families starve, while your making 27 million dollars a year for creating nothing. Be careful motherfucker. Be really careful. Cause that's the kind of stuff that stirs stuff up."

calling every gnc cis person you see an "egg waiting to crack" even as a joke is not cool or funny at all actually it is extremely invasive and weird and you are just reinventing gender roles but making it "progressive"

is it just me or is this is an extremely weird thing to say about a random stranger based on nothing but a snippet of an eavesdropped conversation

Western conceptualizations of gender have been a disaster for the human race
