ofc you know this was for a skirt hehe! i need to add more crystals so it tiles better but i’m very excited about this idea!

after the initial proof of concept, it’s time to redraw the art (but bigger) and add more crystals! i really like the purple crystals, but that look was achieved via color adjustments, so i decided to sample the colors from the art pre-adjustment so i could match it exactly!

fortunately, procreate automatically records my drawing process so i was able to scroll through that and take screenshots of the different steps of my process so i could best match them

testing out the purple + a repeat and i like it but idk if this is the right color….

In a move that has sparked outcry from archaeologists, historians and locals, the Peruvian government has approved a multi-billion international airport near the famed site of Machu Picchu, Peru’s single most important tourist destination. Bulldozers have begun to clear millions of tons of earth for the project, which will be located in Chinchero, a picturesque Inca town.

Building the airport in this location will destroy an ancient landscape, one shaped by the Incan people with terraces and routes.

Critics also suggest that planes flying low over the nearby village of Ollantaytambo and its archaeological park filled with ruins and a massive Inca fortress with large stone terraces, would cause incalculable damage to fragile Inca ruins there and destroy the peace and beauty of the area.

The new airport will make access to the site much easier, and thus encourage greater numbers than ever before to visit.

But Machu Picchu is already overwhelmed by almost double the limit of tourists as recommended by UNESCO. [see also India’s Taj Mahal - an incredible site simply reeling under a relentless, ineffectively managed tourist, both domestic and international, onslaught]

to be completely honest, there is probably nothing anyone can do about this at this point because it has been in the works since the 90’s. as you can most likely tell, our government is a fucking joke. still, this needs international attention. a lot of it. this is my country’s history, culture and one of the most beautiful things we have to offer at risk.

our best bet is at the very least causing somewhat global outrage to spread awareness and perhaps make this into something bigger amongst the middle and upper class people in the central cities as sadly the lower class and indigenous citizens (the majority of the country’s population) go widely ignored by the government and the former (middle and upper class) tend to also ignore shit unless they perceive it as affecting them directly

one time I watched a raccoon pull up plastic tent stakes at a campground and just walk away, content with causing mischief

another time at camp I woke up to find a raccoon had grabbed the yarn that connected the string telephones my neighbor and I had strung up between our cabin windows and was just yanking on it… I grabbed one end and ended up in a tug-of-war over the string phone while this beefy raccoon pulled and pulled, hand over hand, making direct eye contact with me

and sometimes they’d sneak into cabins and just…. touch people while they slept

These dudes are fucking legit.  They don’t just show up one day in court, either, they actually make friends with the kids and let them know they have a support system and that there are people in the world who care about them and will always have their back.  And less important, but also cool, is that the few times a couple of them have come into my cafe, they’ve been super friendly and polite and when I told one of the guys that I noticed his Bikers Against Child Abuse patch and wanted him to know how awesome I thought he was because of it, he got kind of shy and blushed and said, “The kids are the awesome ones, we just let them know they’re allowed to be brave.”

The source is long, but so, so good. These men and women are available in 36 states, 24 hours a day to stand guard at home, in court, at school, even if the child has a nightmare. Many of them are survivors of childhood abuse as well, and know what it’s like to feel scared and alone.

Bikers Against Child Abuse was founded in 1995 by a Native American child psychologist whose ride name is Chief, when he came across a young boy who had been subjected to extreme abuse and was too afraid to leave his house. He called the boy to reach out to him, but the only thing that seemed to interest the child was Chief’s bike. Soon, some 20 bikers went to the boy’s neighborhood and were able to draw him out of his house for the first time in weeks.

Chief’s thesis was that a child who has been abused by an adult can benefit psychologically from the presence of even more intimidating adults that they know are on their side. “When we tell a child they don’t have to be afraid, they believe us,” Arizona biker Pipes told azcentral.com. “When we tell them we will be there for them, they believe us.” ( Article)

Guys? This post changed my life. I saw this post. Forever ago. And thought it was only in america… and wished desperately that they could help me. But then I saw it again, during a bad episode, and checked their site. They aren’t just in the USA

They’re in Canada as well and probably other countries. I met and talked with a native guy who runs the place near me. His name is Shaman. I got in, and I’m considered a BACA child now. Despite being 17, turning 18 when I talked to them. They spent time with me when my abuser was over, they gave me therapy resources. They give you something called a ‘level 1′ where they go to your house with as many bikers as they can, i shit you not a solid 20-40 bikers came from even out of province, and met me. I got to choose my biker name and I got a vest with patches on it and my name on it. They all hugged a Teddybear before giving it to me, and told me if I ever felt the BACA bear was running out of love, to give them a call and they’d refill it for me, and then I got a ride on one of their bikes. Just a day or so ago I went to an annual party with them and they we ate food one of them cooked and had a lot of laughs. 

I’ve never felt as loved as I did being a part of the BACA family. They also gave me dog tags with the names, and phone numbers of my 2 workers.  So I can call them whenever I feel scared. 

BACA is an absolutely wonderful group that will do everything in it’s power to help any child whos been abused. 

And it doesn’t end when you’re 18 either. As long as you get in contact/get your level 1 before you’re 18? you’re ALWAYS a BACA kid. I’m 18 now and they still invite me to parties, ask me if I’m okay, and are there for me. They’re still trying to find me resources for therapy. 

BACA has changed my fucking life.

It’s McDonald’s, it’s not supposed to be a high paying job

People deserve to make enough to live on. That’s not up for debate. This idea that some jobs aren’t “supposed to” pay enough for people to get their needs met is bullshit. Nobody should be living in poverty.

Yes, but it’s McDonald’s. It’s not meant to be a job to support a family, it’s mainly for support for teens or side jobs.

No, it’s not. 

There is no such thing as a job “for teens” (and even if there was, they deserve a fair wage for their labor, too.) Nobody should get paid so little that they need “side jobs.” 

If your business model relies on paying people a wage that keeps them trapped in poverty, your business should not continue to exist. McDonald’s can afford to pay their workers a better wage, they’re choosing not to. 

Funny story- I am a manager at a Mc Donald’s. Do you know? We have a set limit of minors- teenagers- we can employ. It’s barely over a dozen. Most locations open at 6am… guess what, on week days minors cannot work before they are out of school, or before 730am if they are out of school (GED and the like) also 730am on weekends. Minors cannot work after 10pm on weekdays, and after Midnight on weekends. My location closes at 11pm Sunday to Thursday, and 1am on Friday and Saturday. Because of labor laws here, they may not have more than 20 hours a week, and cannot work more than 5 hours in a single day.

So no. This is absolutely not a job just for teens. We have a giant compactor that crushes and crushes our trash. If you’re not 18 you’re not allowed to operate it. Anything sharp? Are you 18? Can’t touch it. Being a manger? Are you out of high school and at least 18? Forget it.

And honestly, I wouldn’t make any of the kids at my job deal with our customers when they’re going feral. Do you know how bat shit y’all are?? I had a woman start crying because we ran out of the Mc Rib and caused a scene in my drive-thru for 10 minutes. I’ve had old men cussing me out because Corp decided to bump a senior coffee from .99 to 1.09. Though if you sit inside, which they all do for well over two hours every morning… refills are free.

We have a lady here who we call “Princess Diamond” because she’s so fucking entitled she gave us a bad review on the McVoice because we served a homeless man and he sat to close to her… which was across the entire goddamn lobby. Would you really want a teen trying to deal with this woman??

I sure as shit don’t. I don’t allow her to deal with most of my Crew, actually. I’m as nice as freaking sugar in your tea to her face but if she gets rude I start slamming her order down on the tray. And as my Crew knows, the sweeter my voice gets the more trouble your in. She doesn’t stay long on days were I start getting aggressive with her food.

Side tracked- but no. We have so many things that need to be done all day long that we can’t legally let a minor do. A sister location was just fined over $5,000.00 because of labor violations pertaining to minors.

Just pay us so we can live. Please. A lot of these teens are trying to move out and get into apartments. But if an apartment costs 800.00 in rent and that’s usually one of the two checks a month an adult gets. Maybe. That’s a struggle even for myself, and it’s just my roommate, our dumb cat, and me. No children. He has a worse paying job.

We just want to be able to live.

This goes for any minimum wage job. 

The minimum wage, when it was set in 1938 as the United States was coming out of the Depression, was intended to be the minimum you needed to be able to pay your bills and raise a family on a single income. Not this bullshit we have today. It’s as low as it is because it hasn’t kept up with inflation.

Like, not only is working in fast food one of the hardest fucking jobs because it’s hot, it’s dangerous, and it’s full of the worst customers, but it’s also disrespected constantly, and people don’t think you deserve to be able to pay your bills. 

Fuck that. 

Pay workers enough to live on with a single full time job. 

Any business that can’t? Shouldn’t exist.

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by quietly remembering that Native Americans sent more aid to Ireland during the famine than Britain or the US.

1.  “more aid to ireland during the famine than britain” okay let’s clear this up, again– there was no famine, it was a genocide, commited specifically by the british.  ireland was literally packed with food.  the only crop that failed was the potato crop.  the british had no problem with ships FULL OF FOOD leaving british ports on british ships from ireland to other places to make money.  IT.  WAS.  NOT.  A.  FAMINE.  IT.  WAS.  A.  GENOCIDE.   and that probably explains why britain didn’t “send aid”.  britain was literally using the “famine” they manufactured to clear the land of indigenous irish people.

2.  which lends poignancy and power to the attempt by the choctaw nation to send food to starving irish people. 

3.  there was much fanfair about this in the british press at the time, because of course the british government was lying to its own people about what they were doing.  it’s convenient to blame natural disasters like “famine” when in fact it is mass murder– kinda like what’s going on in yemen right now.  but to conclude, what didn’t receive a lot of fanfair in the british press is the fact that much of the corn and other food the choctaw nation attempted to send did not go to starving irish people, it was essentially hijacked and went to feed british pigs and livestock.

And - all through primary school (until age 12) it was taught as a famine; only in secondary school did we learn that the British caused it deliberately. There’s a fair amount of Irish YA novels about the Famine (can’t remember titles off the top of my head), and they’re all pretty brutal with the facts of what happened. Not to mention most people’s great-grandparents probably lived through it - it’s not that far back.
