I think one of the goals of society should be that someone who requires expensive medicine and a lot of care can live an amazing life, the longest life they possibly can, with dignity, even if they have no friends or family or anyone who cares enough about them to help. the goals of a society should be to make life better than if we are alone, society should want life to be as good as possible for as many people as possible, and those goals should account for people not having social support networks.
social life aside, the most hated or ignored person in town should be able to live as good and fair and just of a life as the most loved person in town. survival needs to stop being a popularity contest.
I’m babysitting my grandma’s cats and she wrote 4 pages of detailed notes, down to the exact words I should use to greet them in the morning and when I put them to bed at night
forgot to add the goodnight wishes
No, this is completely fair. Cats are very autistic. If you give them the exact same routine they are used to, including saying the right things at the right time, they will be super happy and know that everything is alright with the world.
calling every instance of showing certain emotions "emotional labor" needs to stop. I just saw a post that was like "reminder that you do not ever need to be a good or kind person" like. Yes you DO???

I think somewhere people got confused and now think that "privileged" equals "oppressor" and "having privilege" equals "has the power to oppress".
It doesn't.
Would love to hear more about this, because I understand the first part, that privileged doesn’t automatically equal oppressor, but I don’t think I know enough to understand how having privilege doesn’t equal having the power to oppress.
Having privilege does not automatically grant you power.
I have working legs. This does not mean I am systemically oppressing people who need mobility aids, and it doesn't mean I have the power to do it, either. If I got elected to government and passed legislation that removed elevators and ramps on the basis of "Well I don't need them", then I'd be systemically oppressing people based on walking privilege.
It's exactly what I was saying on the other post; existing doesn't mean oppression.
You do not have mobility problems with your legs at the time of this posting. I do, but I can still walk with relatively little assistance as long as my pain is low and the terrain is not actively working against me. That doesn't mean the stairs in your house or apartment are oppressing me, or that your ability to climb them with no negative effects is oppressing me. You have the privilege of not needing to worry if you can actually make that climb and thus more avenues are open to you- you don't have to worry about the expense of buying a house with no stairs, you don't secondguess if you can actually take the flight, entire venues and employment/schooling oppurtunies and city streets and businesses aren't completely inaccessible to you because they exist on the third floor with no fucking elevator, you don't suffer sleepless at night when you were forced to take stairs you shouldn't have climbed. But unless *you*, specifically YOU, designed these stairways in these places with no other way to access the upper floors... it's not like you not needing to worry about that is directly oppressing me.
You CAN contribute to it- "why should stairs need to be accessible" "who even needs ramps and elevators" "I mean if you can walk you should be able to take a couple steps" "why do I need to make room for you on the elevator or wait for you to catch up" and my favorite "wow the world's youngest senior citizen" usually said when walking with my cane. But until that line is crossed, you existing as someone who can walk without pain unassisted is not directly oppressing me.
And that's the thing. Actions are oppression. Existing as someone with privilege does not mean you automatically oppress people.
"Having privilege" is morally neutral. Society is what bestows you privilege. That is completely out of your control.
"Oppression" is morally repugnant. Actions that contribute to the harm of others are terrible and bad and you should not do them.
Too many people conflate the two.

Pink ain’t come to play wit you hoes!
This is also an excellent example of providing breed-adequate enrichment, because Border Collies are herding dogs. They were bred to run a lot and do multiple quick and sharp turns, so if you can’t provide your collie with an actual herd of animals to… well… herd, an obstacle course like this is a great alternative. That dog is having the time of her life.
Omg, go Pink go!

Parts of the buildings for King Djoser's Heb Sed Festival. The Heb Sed was a jubilee festival that was supposed to be celebrated after thirty years of a king's reign. It served a dual purpose, both magically reinvigorating the king and also proving that he is still young and strong enough to continue to rule. (Some have even suggested it's a hangover from a more ancient ritual which would have involved either removing or even killing a king once they were deemed to old or frail to rule). The festival would have lasted several days and, apart from sitting on his throne, looking dramatic and wearing fancy clothes, Pharaoh was also expected to undertake feats of hunting, as well as a symbolic 'lap of honour' around his kingdom. Egypt and its various towns were symbolically represented in a large court, and Pharaoh is shown, in many depictions, running between them. His laps of this symbolic kingdom would have magically effected his dominance over all of Egypt.
Heb Sed is one of the oldest of all Egyptian festivals, and it continued to be celebrated to the end of the Pharaonic Period. In the New kingdom, a few Pharaohs got greedy (or just felt the need for an extra bit of magical rejuvenation) and started celebrating it every three years. Whole towns would have grown up around the artisans and labourers who were on site to construct the buildings for the festival.
Just sitting here with my sketchbook and pens. Doodling. On holiday. Scannerless. Reading book 6 of Heaven Official's Blessing atm. The plot certainly thickens! I love that creative mind. \o/
