I’ve been skimming John Francis Daley’s (director on D&D: Honor Among Thieves) twitter and I continue to be so completely blown away by the movie’s commitment to practical effects and/or minimized CGI where feasible. I mean holy shit look at all this

Practical effects mean that the creators were largely unionized.

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.

*says a fact in a conversation and a wikipedia citation appears next to my head*

*clicks the citation*

*text pops up saying “this is not true. He saw this in a youtube video once in 2014 and took it as fact”. the words “youtube video” are underlined and in blue”

*clicks on the link*

I'm still thinking about the absolute chaos of Bor'dor's intro scene. The fifth level anxiety-induced lightning attack. Orym begging everyone to chill out. The sheer pvp violence of it all.

Bor'dor fits right in with Bell's "we're two seconds away from a mostly-accidental pvp showdown at any moment" Hells tbh.

Thinking about this again with the context of the Bor'dor reveal and ooooh boy.

I think the bicycle helmet discourse really just reinforces the idea that people believe that accidents only happen to the stupid and careless, and that people who get hurt somehow deserve it. And since nobody wants to believe themselves to be stupid, or thinks they could be careless or distracted, it's not necessary to take precautions.

And then they take safety advice as an insult because telling someone to be safe is seen as an accusation of being stupid and irresponsible, and not just a value neutral acknowledgement of statistical inevitably. We see it with masks, and seatbelts, and now bicycle helmets because everyone wants to believe they're too clever to get hurt, and too lucky to get hurt badly, until suddenly you're not and you have to resign, in shame, to being one of the people you previously saw as annoying nags, assuming you're even still alive.

There's something really nice about going into my kid's room and seeing the toys I made her with my own hands looking increasingly cuddled and well-loved (with the knowledge that I can make new ones if they one day completely fall apart 😅). The grey bunny was made in April 2022 for her birthday, and the yeti for Christmas 2021, and while they're holding up well they have crushed fleece and bobbly felt from being hugged and slept on. They're genuinely special to her BECAUSE I made them. And that's a wonderful feeling. 🥰

Found pictures of both of them when they were new. 😊
